Borders has greatly expanded its toy and game offerings in its more than 500 superstores nationwide to include products from leading brands such as Melissa & Doug®, Creativity for Kids®, LEGO Systems, Inc, Playmobil, Scientific Explorer™, Chicco®, Battat®, Blue Orange Games®, ALEX® and many others. The expert buyers at Borders selected many of the toys and games because they play a role in promoting discovery, fostering creativity and helping build cognitive skills in youngsters, all of which are critical to developing good learning and reading habits-and a lifelong love of reading. Importantly, Borders knows that not all customers know what they want to purchase when faced with a variety of toy and game options, so the company is staffing the Children’s Department with a dedicated kids’ specialist, who can answer questions and make toy, game and book recommendations. (The specialists’ hours will vary by store.)
We were recently invited to take a peek at our local Borders location to see the changes that were made. We went as a family and spent over 2 hours reading and playing. Rob and I scoped out the extensive selection of gifts throughout the store and immediately I knew that Borders could easily become someone’s One-Stop Shop for the holidays. From music to movies to books to games and even fun finds like cute stationery and arts and crafts kits can be found littered throughout the entire store. It was a bit overwhelming actually because everywhere I turned I saw something new.
We ended up shopping for Shaun and Shae; Up the movie, Dora books, Legos, an adorable Mister Men/Little Miss game and more. We spent close to the $100 gift card that we were supplied and I felt that with the in-store sales going on we did pretty well.
Border’s wants you to see the great things they are bringing to the stores. Win one of two $100 gift cards right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Borders and check out their new Toys and Games section. Let me know what toys and games you played with as a child and why they would be great for today’s youth.

As a child I loved playing with my dollhouse. I think it would be a great toy for today's youth because they gets to role play and act situations out. The perfect way to practice real life situations they may come across.
I loved playing with my interactive robot, Alphie II. It was very similar to any other educational toy around now, playing matching and counting games, so it's safe to say that it'd make a nice, current toy as well.

I loved playing with musical instruments as a child. From banging pots and pans. To tambourines to bongos. I think it's great for today's youth to get interested in music it helps them enhance their critical thinking skills and their ability to work together as a team. And the more engaged in school they are the less likely they are to drop out.

A lot of the things I played with as a child were either dangerous or decidedly non-educational, but fortunately I spent more time with Legos than with anything else. Legos are great for developing spacial skills and even greater for unlocking the imagination.

Great giveaway. One of my favorite games of all time was Clue. There's another one I loved, but can't remember the name of. I don't believe they make it anymore. I'll have to ask my cousin what it was called.
As far as toys, I loved MLP, Cabbage Patch dolls, Care Bears, Barbies, etc.
I think many modern toys do too much and don't give the child a chance to use their imagination. I loved playing with dolls when I was young and making up stories as I went along. Great giveaway – Thanks!

My favorite toys as a kid were those big tonka construction toys. They would be great today because kids use their imagination when they play with these. Not to mention the actual physical activity.

My sister and I had Legos, Tinker Toys, and Lincoln Logs. We loved making and creating things for each other and for our parents. These are toys to have for kids in this day and age of electronics. I know that there are some kids that would look at them and think, "Where is the remote?". My son will be getting Tinker Toys (the older ones..off of eBay) for Christmas from my mom. We also read a lot (we still do, I have 29 brand new books on my shelf to read!!) bekki1820cb@gmail.com

I played with many things, especially my Barbies. But my family were really big game players. I love the science kits like the spa science or the really disgusting science kits. What a great way for kids to be hands-on in their play and learning at the same time.
mamie316(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
I loved playing the children's version of Scrabble which is good for learning how to spell and increasing vocabulary.
I played Monopoly when I was younger. It's a good game to teach kids about handling money.

I love word games and always have. It has helped me to be a good reader and writer all of my life, and has paid off in my career. Scrabble is, and always was, a great favorite of mine. I think it teaches kids not only about a variety of words, but how to think creatively.
Things like Lincoln logs, Tinkertoys and Legos are great because they let the child use the imagination and there is no technology involved. Just hands on fun!
I loved playing toy instuments as a kid. I had a recorder, a tamborine (sp?), and even a banjo. I think that toy instruments help children to be creative.

There's a number of items that I love. The Make Your Own Sock Puppet would really be a hit with my kids. Thanks so much.

Books and Barbie's, those were the best toys of my childhood. Hope I win
Thanks for the great contest
I played with Legos as a kid and I think they are a great toy to build creativity and analytical skills.
Thank you for the giveaway

As a kid, my siblings and I played checkers and Chinese Checkers for hours. It was great for the mind and engaging in conversation together.
I didn't play any of the games on that site, but I loved my speak-and-spell. It would be great for kids today because texting has made spelling become even more atrocious!
I played with Lincoln logs when I was a kid and I think they are still a good toy for kids because it lets them use their hands and their imaginations.
I played with sticks and stones when I was a kid! OK. We weren't so broke that I had no toys. We had a few, and a lot more than my dad did when he was a kid. But the best toys for us were the little trees we hacked down to make lean-to huts, the crawdads in the streams and the snowballs we threw. Great toys don't have to cost $! Today's youth could stand to get out of the mall and back into nature!
That said, I'd love to get some Borders books and stuff for my own kids!

As the oldest of six kids, we played house, school, store, etc. My kids like to play pretend but would still rather be on the computer or texting. I think pretend play is good for kids, exercised the fun centers in their brains without being over stimulated.
my favorite was colorforms and they would be wonderful thanks minsthins at optonline dot net
We had dolls and puppets and board games and coloring books, train sets and the like, which were wonderful. But we also had outside toys, like pogo sticks, key roller skates, and hopscotch (needed chalk for that!). I wish the kids today did more non-organized outside activities, to get more exercise and develop sportsmanship and camaderie.

As a child, we played games like Dominoes and Monopoly. From these games we learned to solve problems, especially math. Our mother would have us find dominoes that equaled a certain number, i.e. find the dominoes that would equal 15, or 20. We learned about money playing Monopoly!
