Does The Punishment Fit The Crime?

When I was coming home from work today I heard on the radio that a lady is serving a life sentence for forcing a 13 year old boy to touch her breast. At first I thought I was hearing things. Did he really just say life in prison? Murderers and drug dealers don’t even get a life sentence most of the time and to me those are way more serious crimes. Now I know people are going to be pissed and say this is a serious crime and I agree but that is not what my argument is. My argument is does this lady deserve life in prison.

The judge Memeo said he was bound by state statute to impose the life sentence, but said he isn’t sure why the prosecution chose to charge her under that statute. The district attorney didn’t offer a plea deal. The sentence is life and she is eligible for parole in 10 years which is the minimum sentence. If released on parole she must register as a sex offender and will be under lifetime supervision.

Taylor, who lived in Jackpot, Nev., at the time of the crime, kissed a friend’s child, forced him to touch her breast and asked him to have sex with her in February 2008. Taylor claimed she was intoxicated and doesn’t remember what happened that night. She told jurors she roughhoused with the boy, but didn’t force him to touch her inappropriately.

I am not really sure what to say. I feel this was a serious crime but life seems extreme to me. This is just my opinion so don’t line me up in front of the firing squad.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you feel like is a fair punishment and be honest with your opinion.
