Starting off the “summer season” of movies is Blended, the third comedy collaboration between stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, following their successful onscreen pairings in the hit romantic comedies “50 First Dates” and one of my all time favorites “The Wedding Singer”.

Romantic comedies aren’t just for women these days. Especially when you have a cast like this. Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Joel McHale, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kevin Nealon, Jessica Lowe, Terry Crews, Shaquille O’Neal, Bella Thorne, Emma Fuhrmann, Alyvia Alyn Lynd, Kyle Red Silverstein, Braxton Beckham.

Blended

After a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren (Barrymore) and Jim (Sandler) agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week.

Blended comes to theaters May 23, 2014 and is brought to you by Warner Bros.

Say #ThanksBaby this Mother’s Day and Giveaway

Every day I’m reminded of how important being a mother is. It’s not only the faces of my sleeping kids, their arms reaching out to me or their foreheads pressed on my lips. I glance up at the photos of their births and other milestones. I wear jewelry that commemorates moment they’ve impacted my life.

To each of my children I want to give you the strength to be a great person in whatever path you choose to live your life. The road ahead is bumpy and full of many turns. You’ll be faced with decisions that don’t seem fair. Lean on each other for guidance and inspiration.

Follow your heart. Always.

Searching for appropriate television for kids isn’t always easy. Sticking with old standby shows is fine but there comes a time when you have to introduce them to something new and exciting. From the makers of the uber educational Sid the Science Kid and Dinosaur Train comes a new animated preschool show called Doozers.

Doozers is a the first Hulu Original for Kids. The show encourages kids to create, design, build, invent and think out of the box. Construction and building is a classic activity for kids of all ages. Doozers from The Jim Henson Company and DHX Media wants to expand those lessons by giving kids new adventures on screen. Hopefully those ideas will translate to real life and inspire kids to be more hands on during playtime and have lots of fun.


The Pod Squad loves to DESIGN, CREATE, and INNOVATE. These Doozers are DOERS – they put their ideas into action! If that sounds like work, think again! What kid wouldn’t want to design their very own Doozer Derby racing car, fly in a jetpack (or better yet…fly with a kaleidoscope of butterflies!), or build a giant life-sized gingerbread house?! Whatever they are doing, the Pod Squad always manages to have a fantastic time!

Jelly Bean Tree Centerpiece plus Giveaway

For the last few months I’ve been enjoying making some DIY home decor that fits the seasons and holidays. There was the Valentine’s framed Key to My Heart and the Christmas Card Display board. For Easter and spring it’s no different. I created this adorable Jelly Bean Tree Centerpiece for the dining table.jelly bean tree centerpiece

I’m hoping it lasts till June honestly. For the week it’s been up I’ve lost 1 tiny branch holding 1 jelly bean and that’s because I hit it by accident.

Materials
vase, jar, flowerpot, basket
stabilizer for wide mouth container (styrofoam, marbles, dirt)
branches
jellybeans of your choice
glue gun
polyurethane spray (optional)

Directions
Clean off your branches of dead leaves, buds and dirt.

Spray with a clear coat. I did this to get rid of the dusty look but there is nothing wrong with leaving it the way it is.  You might be able to see that I use a paper towel roll to hold the branches but keep  my hands free of over spray.

Arrange your branches in their container. I rubber-banded mine together very low so they spread out slightly.

I keep these marbles on hand for just these kind of projects. They are strong enough to keep the centerpiece in place but it’s not permanent. A block of floral styrofoam would work well. This can be topped with shredded green paper or Easter grass too.

Using your hot glue gun add small dabs of glue to your branches.

Then add your jelly beans. Do this one at a time. Hot glue is the best option as it dries FAST and clear. I DO NOT suggest adding the glue to the jelly bean because of the small surface space and the risk of fingertip burns. I speak from experience.

I went with jelly beans that had a vibrant color, I actually don’t like the way these taste. Coordinate your home and tablescape with jelly beans of any hue or just one color.

This was created with a vase I already had on hand, marbles I’ve had for many years and branches off a bush that hasn’t bloomed yet in my side yard. My only expense was a bag of jelly beans and I didn’t even use the whole bag. I though about adding more to the branches but I thought it would start to look more like a child’s craft.
