Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes

Some of you may already know that we were invited to NYC this weekend help kick off the 2009 season of the Radio City Music Spectacular starring the Rockettes. This was a Mommy Blogger event that allowed us the chance to not just see the show but mingle with other bloggers, the Rockettes themselves, Santa while enjoying goodies from local businesses such as the famed Magnolia Bakery and Kate’s Paperie.

We had a last minute change of plans and the kids ended up not going with us so we invited our friends Tim and Kat. We knew we would still have a fabulous time with them and it would have been silly to let the tickets go to waste. Our trip up to NYC was a nightmare, traffic was at every turn it almost doubled our drive up there. We expected to have time to stroll around and grab a bite to eat, instead we quickly found parking ran through the streets found a local Irish Pub for a drink and snack then headed over to Radio City Music Hall. Even the entrance was magnificent, the lights were bright and the crowds were forming. We were running late for the preshow festivities but were still pleasantly greeted by doormen, elevator attendees and the staff running the event.

To our surprise there was a full spread of food and beverages, had we know we wouldn’t have stopped for a snack beforehand because those sliders were yum! We each got cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery; to be honest I wasn’t crazy about them, too dense and crumbly for my taste, I like light and fluffy and moist. We mingle with the Rockettes and I got to meet ComplicatedMama in the hallway. I’m assuming she recognized me or Rob but I was so excited. We had been tweeting during the ride to NY, she was filling me in on traffic details and her sweet parking deal, FREE. I was sad I didn’t get to meet ThetaMom, we were in different rooms and being late but a damper on the socializing.

When the preshow fun was done we were handed a bag of goodies and ushered into the theater. It was beautiful and filling up fast. We had great seats and the show quickly started. The lights, effects, music and performance were grand and I’m glad I will have that memory with me forever. My favorite performance was The 12 Days of Christmas. The routines these women must learn and memorize are incredible and I tip my hat to them. I hope our future Christmases will bring us as a family to NYC to see this show every year.

There is still time to see the show for yourself if you are in the area. Purchase select tickets for a 25% discount using the code DANCE. This code is valid till December 10th so hurry.
