Six Flags America, the Mid-Atlantic’s premier destination for family thrills, today announced the Grand Opening of Thomas TownSM, a newly-created children’s area based on the popular Thomas & Friends™ brand. Thomas Town at Six Flags America will open on Saturday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. with a Grand Opening ceremony.
The largest permanent theme park attraction based on Thomas & Friends in North America, Thomas Town at Six Flags America features eight rides and attractions designed to thrill families of all ages. This exciting family area’s cornerstone ride is a replica of Thomas the Tank Engine™ that takes guests on a journey through Thomas’ home on the Island of Sodor. Other rides featured at Thomas Town at Six Flags America include Bertie the Bus, Harold the Helicopter, the Sodor Carnival ferris wheel, the Diesel Derby, and the Cranky the Crane drop tower. Attractions, such as an interactive pop jet fountain and multi-story play structure, are also a part of Thomas Town. Unique from most play areas for young children, each element of Thomas Town at SixFlags America is designed so that parents and children can participate together on every ride and attraction.
In addition to the fun rides and attractions of Thomas Town, Sir Topham Hatt, Controller of the Railway, is on hand throughout the day to pose for photos and greet visitors. The Knapford Station Shop will feature an assortment of Thomas & Friends merchandise, including apparel, books, toys and train sets, and other items.
In addition to the Grand Opening Ceremony to welcome guests to the 3.5 acre theme park expansion, Six Flags America will host a birthday celebration for Thomas, the #1 engine, on his landmark 65th Birthday. Guests are invited to enjoy cake and entertainment with Thomas, Sir Topham Hatt, and other new friends at Six Flags America, as well as Thomas-themed contests and giveaways. Mega Bloks will donate a giant replica of Thomas made out of Mega Bloks and will challenge guests to guess how many blocks make up Thomas! All guests will pay kids’ admission fees during the celebration, and the first 65 kids (48 inches and under) to visit Thomas Town will receive a Thomas goody bag. The birthday party for Thomas begins at noon on June 5th.
