Snow Day Unplugged Boredom Buster Indoor Activities

Mother Nature isn’t pulling any punches this year. Snow, rain, sleet, hail and earthquakes are happening all over the country these days, at levels that we’ve never seen before. Schools and activities are being cancelled. Parents are home from work. Conditions are so hazardous that there are no kids playing outside.

What’s a family to do? Get creative that’s what. These indoor activities will keep kids of all ages occupied, entertained and cabin fever free while staying unplugged.

Dr Seuss Kids Crafts and Activities

Theo LeSieg, Rosetta Stone, Theophrastus Seuss. These names may sound familiar; they should. They are all different pen names used by Dr Seuss. Theodor Seuss Geisel career is a colorful one. One that spans newspapers, magazines and of course books. The Cat in the Hat is probably the most widely recognized Dr Seuss work but his other additions to the children’s literary device world are equally as awesome. I’ve put together a collection of great kids crafts and activities that would make for a great way to celebrate Dr Seuss’ Birthday on March 2nd.

Holiday Wishlist 2010 – Melissa and Doug Recap

Most of you probably know we love Melissa and Doug Baby and Toddler Toys in a big way.  I would almost say in a stalker kind of way, LOL.  We have had Melissa and Doug toys in the house since Shaun was a baby and he is now seven.  I can’t even tell you how many things Shae has from the lemonade stand to numerous play food sets.

Something about Melissa and Doug toys just draws me in.  Back over the summer we were at Border’s and I saw a huge section of items and we bought Shae the pizza set.  I liked the pizza set so much I went back two days later and got her the birthday cake set.  Melissa and Doug toys are built with imagination in mind for the little ones and big ones who will play with them.

We are excited to have received for overview the Purse Fill and Spill and the Mailbox Fill and Spill for our two nieces.  They are still babies but the thought of them growing up with Melissa and Doug toys like Shaun and Shae did is a really cool thought.  The toys are quality made and will last a long time no matter how hard you beat them up.

Here is a brief description of the Mailbox Fill and Spill:

Soft plush mailbox full of happy greetings for your baby. Peek inside through the see-through back panel, raise the flag and open the door to remove your mail. Find envelopes for many special occasions with removable stamps and other treats. Put them in, take them out, it’s always good news. Constructed of high quality fabrics and plastic for durable play. Recommended Ages: 2+ years

Here is a brief description of the Purse Fill and Spill:

Everything necessary for the little girl on the go! This soft play set includes a cell phone that chimes, a key ring with keys, a change purse with coins, and a compact with a child-safe mirror. Everything is easily removed and replaced into a charming purse with a purple handle. Constructed of high quality fabrics and plastic, this durable set will provide hours of pretend fun! Recommended Ages: 18+ months

Beating the Winter Blues

I’m in the middle of blah, surrounded by mounds of snow, melting icicles, freezing wind and hyperactive kids. Here are a couple tools to help me out of those slumps of boredom and better my mood.

  • Putting on makeup! Sounds silly but it makes me feel pretty and confident and happy.
  • Baking is always a crowd pleaser! Find a new recipe that puts a spin on an old favorite!
  • Bust out that crockpot, make something and fill the house with warm inviting smells.
  • Takeup a new hobby such as crochet, make yourself a colorful scarf to stand out in a crowd.
  • Rent a flck that the whole family can enjoy under warm blankets with buckets of popcorn.
  • Indulge in a mani/pedi or a fresh bright new hair color, awaken your body physically.

What are some things you like to do when the weather has got you down?
