Starting Your Morning Off Right #GIVEAWAY

I hear a lot of people say that they either don’t like breakfast or don’t have time for breakfast which to me is totally weird.  The Babiak’s take breakfast very serious.  Weekday breakfast is usually low key since we all get up and leave the house at different times but when the weekend rolls around that is when breakfast time gets real.  Weekends in the Babiak household typically start out with a nice homemade breakfast which includes pancakes, eggs, some kind of breakfast meat and lots and lots of coffee and juice.

The kids also look forward to the weekend because they know they are going to get a nice homemade breakfast and can put oatmeal and cereal on hold until Monday.  I enjoy waking up early, turning on the coffee and the radio and making a nice breakfast for the family.  Shaun and Shae typically wake up a little after me and keep me company while I make breakfast.  We use weekend breakfast as a time to unwind and talk about the last week and begin planning the upcoming week.  I love sitting around the kitchen with a hot cup of coffee and just talking with the family, it’s very relaxing.

There are some weekends where we are jam packed with activities but somehow we find a way to have a nice breakfast either Saturday or Sunday.  Weekends are times that I really enjoy and I hope the kids will remember as well and will carry on the breakfast tradition once they have kids.

Time To Talk Hungry Jack Protein Pancakes Plus Giveaway

Elmo says breakfast is the most important meal of the day and I totally agree and so do my kids.  They love pancakes so much they would eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner and that is a huge reason why I am very proud to be a part of the Hungry Jack Team telling you about PANCAKE-ISMS and some great new Hungry Jack products.

HUngry Jack Pancakes

People love breakfast because it’s easy to eat a protein packed meal like eggs or even a protein shake and most likely pancakes would never cross a persons mind until now.  Hungry Jack has an awesome new protein pancake mix that contains 10 grams of protein per serving.  If you love pancakes and eating a protein packed meal you can now have both with these new pancakes which in my opinion totally rock.  My kids tore up these pancakes the first time I made them and they were asking for more and how could I deny them these delicious new protein pancakes.

IMG_1461

If you love a piping hot stack of pancakes like my kids and I do you know putting cold syrup on them is a real bummer.  Hungry Jack has also fixed that problem by giving us the newly updated 27.6 oz. Hungry Jack Original Syrup which is microwavable.  SCORE!!! So now there is no reason to put cold syrup on steaming hot pancakes.  I think I am in heaven.  Writing this post is making me want to go into the kitchen and whip up some pancakes.

Hungry jack Syrup

Being a part of the Hungry Jack team is awesome and we have a lot of fun  For this post they challenged me to come up with my own PANCAKE-ISM.

What are PANCAKE-ISMS you ask? A Hungry Jack Pancake-ism is a hearty bite of worldy wisdom, served with a side of wit. Some are short and sweet, and others are a little more reflective, with an unexpeced twist. However you stack it, Pancake-isms are the perfect mix of racing, pancakes, and satisfying straight-shooting humor.

Here are a few awesome ones that Hungry Jack came up with:

  • A pancake’s worth a thousand words.
  • If you love a pancake, let it go. If it comes back to you, eat it.
  • It takes two to tango. It takes one to make pancakes.

Now it took me a while to come up with my own PANCAKE-ISM because I am not witty as most but here it goes : If you make Hungry Jack pancakes, they will come!Shae eating Hungry jack

Vanilla Brown Sugar French Toast

Breakfast for dinner is like the greatest idea ever. No one ever moans and groans about that. The thought of gooey syrup or loaded up eggs makes everyone in our house smile. One day this week when my dinner plans fell through we went to plan B, French Toast. But we gave it a spin making it Vanilla Brown Sugar French Toast with the addition of Bailey’s coffee creamer.Vanilla Brown Sugar French Toast #kidsinthekitchen

We happened to have a sliced loaf of country bread leftover from the weekend. That’s something that never happens. I said breakfast for dinner and the kids immediately say pancakes or waffles. They prefer sweet breakfast for sure. I mentioned French Toast and got YES’s all around.

I turned to Shae and said it’s time to make dinner. She cracked the eggs, whisked them up, dunked the bread and sprinkled the cinnamon. She was the last to eat because she wanted to be sure she made dinner not just her serving. She’s not too eager to use the spatula right now. She got a little burn a week ago and it tore down her confidence in the kitchen a little. We have to build up those skills a little more again.Vanilla Brown Sugar French Toast #kidsinthekitchen

French Toast is always one of those meals that gets eaten so quickly. It takes just a little syrup or honey or powdered sugar to make it perfect. This one was doctored up with my coffee creamer. I don’t use it very often so I thought it would make a tasty addition to the egg mix instead of milk. I now want to try this with all different kinds of creamers.

Vanilla Brown Sugar French Toast

Ingredients

  • Hearty Sliced Bread
  • 4-6 eggs
  • 1/4 cup flavored creamer
  • cinnamon
  • butter for pan

Directions

In a large skillet melt a teaspoon of butter over medium heat.
In a wide bowl whisk together eggs and creamer.
Dunk bread in egg mixture and place in hot skillet. Fit 2-3 slices in pan but don’t overcrowd.
Sprinkle cinnamon on bread in the pan.
Flip over to brown second side of bread. Continue through loaf of bread, adding more butter as needed.
Serve with butter, syrup or honey and powdered sugar.

Having the right bread is key for this recipe. It doesn’t work as well with super soft breads as you won’t get a really good crisp. Don’t skip the butter either.Vanilla Brown Sugar French Toast #kidsinthekitchen

Mango Strawberry Smoothie #kidsinthekitchen

Breakfast during the summer comes later and later each day. The kids are sleeping in later or not eager to come out of their caves into the sunlight until they feel their bellies growl in protest. This week was full of lazy mornings so smoothies were a quick and easy breakfast that pleased everyone, even me.

This Strawberry Mango Smoothie was amazing. Combining 2 of the best fruits (in my opinion) was a match made in heaven.

We also used this as an opportunity for Shae to work on her knife skills.  We worked on slicing versus chopping with strawberries.

Mango Strawberry Smoothie #kidsinthekitchenHere is the Smoothie Recipe

Mango Strawberry Smoothie

  • 2 cups frozen mango chunks (no ice needed)
  • 2 cups strawberries, stems cut off
  • 2 6-8 oz containers of vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup orange juice

Place everything in your blender and blend till smooth, 30-60 seconds.

This made 3 big glasses for the kids.  EASY and filling and healthy.

Breakfast Cinnamon Roll Casserole Bake #Recipe

Every Christmas Morning I bake up Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls while the kids are opening gifts and usually serve them along with juice, milk and sausage. I like to keel breakfast light since we have a big family dinner in the early afternoon. Thanksgiving we don’t usually have any traditions since we tend to head out to visit family for the turkey feast.

This year I wanted to make something special for the kids for breakfast on Thanksgiving morning. I had just visited BJs wholesale the night before and picked up a 4-pack of cinnamon rolls so it just seemed perfect that I made something different with them. I’ve seen recipes for cinnamon roll waffles but we have a Belgian waffle iron so that wasn’t going to work. I love french toast casserole so this felt like the next best thing. It turned out the be THE best thing. This is something I’ll be making again.

TASSIMO T20 Home Brewing System

When I make coffee at home I want something that is fast, convenient and simple to clean up and that is where the Tassimo T20 Home Brewing System comes in.

The first thing I really liked when I opened the Tassimo T20 Home Brewing System was its size.  It was small which means it won’t take up a ton of precious counter space that we really don’t have.

Below are a few features of the chic black TASSIMO T20 home brewing system:

  • Innovative barcode technology that delivers the perfect drink every time
  • A space saving design in chic black
  • Removable 1.5 litre water tank
  • Noise reduction system
  • Immediately ready to brew drinks
  • No taste transfer between drinks
  • Low energy consumption
  • Fully automatic one-button operation
  • Automatic cleaning and descaling program

I immediately made Melinda and myself a Starbuck cappuccino that was included after opening and setting up the Tassimo T20 Home Brewing System.  All I needed to do was add water, run one or two cycles of water through the machine and I was off in coffee/cappuccino heaven.   To my surprise they turned out pretty well.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised and was excited at its performance.

So far I am super pleased with the Tassimo T20 Home Brewing System and glad to have it in my kitchen for those days when I just don’t feel like making a full pot of coffee.

Would you like a Tassimo T20 Home Brewing System of your own?  One lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader will have a chance to win one.  All you need to do is head over to Tassimo and tell me what T DISC flavor you would love to try.

We Must Starve Our Kids!

This morning about 10 minutes before I was about to leave for work I hear Shae coming down the steps.  It was 6:20 a.m. and this is a little early for her to be up (Usually).  She was upset that I needed to leave for work and that Sabreena needed to go to school.  After I cuddled her for a few minutes and we went to say bye to Sabreena Shae then asked could she eat breakfast. LOL.

Why do kids (At least mine) ask for breakfast the second they wake up?  On the weekends Shaun will wake up and come into my room and wake me up and ask can we go downstairs and as soon as we are downstairs he asks for breakfast.  Shae will do the same thing. Why? Do we starve them?  Are their bellies so empty when they wake up it is hard to function?  I don’t think so because they are always asking for something to eat and most of the time we let them eat unless they are asking to eat right after they eat which they have done before and will have to do a post on that one day. LOL.

I am not sure why they do this but it drives me crazy.  Don’t get me wrong I usually need coffee when I wake up but don’t eat breakfast right away.  I like to wake up and get ready before I eat breakfast but not my kids.

Are you or your kids like this?  Do they or you need to eat as soon as you wake up? We would love to hear your thoughts.

Melinda Called It Sabotage

Yesterday morning Melinda was making eggs and went to use the pepper grinder and when she picked it up this happened:
Funny thing is I just used it to make my eggs.  She called it sabotage which means she thinks I set her up. LOL. To me I call it the pepper grinder just doesn’t like her.

**UPDATE – After writing this post we found out that Sabreena had been using the pepper grinder and thought she needed to turn the bottom to grind the pepper when in fact she was losing the cover where you filled it.  It was just chance that all of the peppercorns fell out when Melinda used it and not me.  Melinda has since apologized and I am expecting everyone who commented on this post who didn’t believe me to do the same. LOL.**

[me] and goji Custom Cereal Recap

Breakfast is supposed to be the fuel to start your day. But today’s top breakfast cereal brands fail at providing quality nutrition, proper vitamins and minerals and adequate fiber and ingredients especially for those with special dietary needs and restrictions. A group of young men; Adam, Carl and Alexander dreamed up the solution; [me] & goji.
[me] & goji is simply a custom cereal & granola company. I say simply because when you start looking through the ingredients it really is a simple and healthy and unique idea that should’ve been obvious to cereal makers all along. With over 60 all-natural and organic ingredients to choose from the mixes are endless. If you aren’t too creative or aren’t too sure what flavors will match well you can select from one of their own favorite blends.

The process is easy though to choose your own mix. Start with your base (flakes, hoops, granola, etc) add your dried fruits and nuts and then the best part, customize your box. I was able to get 3 customized containers of cereal for the kids. For Shaun’s and Shae’s I added super cute pictures of them and fun titles. My kids reach for [me] & goji as an afternoon snack and yogurt mix-in.

What I really appreciate about [me] & goji is it offers so many options. Whether you’re a health nut or wanna be you can mix a nutritious and tasty meal while feeling good about putting good stuff into your body. [me] & goji offers options for those who suffer from Celiac Disease, IBS and other digestive and diet needs. You don’t need to have a medical reason to enjoy a quality, healthy, green cereal.

Visit [me] & goji to learn about the efforts they are putting forth to create a healthier workplace, a sustainable business and a greener environment. Win your own customize cereal from [me] & goji by telling me what ingredients you would choose.

Wordless Wednesday-Too Sunny

This was taken this past Sunday and it was sunny in the kitchen so Shae wanted to eat breakfast with her Hello Kitty shades on.  She is too cool!
