Simple Gift Giving This Year

With Christmas coming up in just 2 months the kids and I have been chatting about what they think they want and would be asking for. Recently on night sitting at the dinner table I asked that question and it took them way too long to answer. That means one thing, they have too much already.

We spoil our kids. They truly want for nothing with a house full of 4 gaming systems, 3 handheld gaming systems, 4 tablets, 3 laptops, a desktop, 4 smart phones, a flat screen tv & Blu-Ray player in every room and so much more.  This doesn’t include the random toys and games,  hundreds of DVDs and BluRays  as well as the vacations, trips and events we attend on any given weekend.Kids and Technology

We did this. We created these little monsters who can’t even think of another gift they would like. We provided not just necessities and essentials but all the fun they could imagine and even what they didn’t know was out there.

I’m flipping around our Christmas giving this year. There’s no way I’m spending my time and money on things that aren’t appreciated, needed or even wanted.

This year we’re doing things differently. The kids are going to have to choose 4 things

Four Gifts for Christmas

This makes the kids really take a look around and see everything they have and take stock of everything they are provided. I can’t control what others will shop for but in our household the holidays are going to mean more than just a pile of gifts under the tree.

I was going to add another something to the list but I’m thinking we can do that differently. Something to Give is now going to be a family charity activity. Maybe we’ll volunteer at a shelter, collect food for the hungry, paint a room at a community center or clean a playground. Doing this as a family will definitely have a bigger impact than just purchasing a pair of shoes and dropping them in a collection box.

What are your holiday gift giving traditions?

Disney Poster a Page Books

2014 disclosureShopping for other people’s kids in hard. No two kids are alike so I can never assume I know just the right thing.  But on the flip side knowing a child inside and out is the best way to know what to get them for gifts. My best friend’s son is a comic book, wrestling and superhero fanatic. It never fails that every birthday or holiday is filled with themed gifts from everyone he knows. This Christmas I was able to score him a MARVEL Avengers Poster a Page book.Disney Poster a Page Books for Kids

Disney Frozen: Magical Moments is going to my niece who’s about to turn 5. Like many other children this year she’s obsessed with Elsa and Anna and of course adorable Olaf.  Shae’s still a Sofia the First fan but don’t tell anyone. We placed some posters around her room and now she said it’s just right.Disney Poster a Page Books for Kids

Holiday Wishlist 2010 – Melissa and Doug Review and Giveaway

Most of you probably know we love Melissa and Doug Baby and Toddler Toys in a big way.  I would almost say in a stalker kind of way, LOL.  We have had Melissa and Doug toys in the house since Shaun was a baby and he is now seven.  I can’t even tell you how many things Shae has from the lemonade stand to numerous play food sets.

Something about Melissa and Doug toys just draws me in.  Back over the summer we were at Border’s and I saw a huge section of items and we bought Shae the pizza set.  I liked the pizza set so much I went back two days later and got her the birthday cake set.  Melissa and Doug toys are built with imagination in mind for the little ones and big ones who will play with them.

We are excited to have received for review the Purse Fill and Spill and the Mailbox Fill and Spill for our two nieces.  They are still babies but the thought of them growing up with Melissa and Doug toys like Shaun and Shae did is a really cool thought.  The toys are quality made and will last a long time no matter how hard you beat them up.

Here is a brief description of the Mailbox Fill and Spill:

Soft plush mailbox full of happy greetings for your baby. Peek inside through the see-through back panel, raise the flag and open the door to remove your mail. Find envelopes for many special occasions with removable stamps and other treats. Put them in, take them out, it’s always good news. Constructed of high quality fabrics and plastic for durable play. Recommended Ages: 2+ years

Here is a brief description of the Purse Fill and Spill:

Everything is easily removed and replaced into a charming purse with a purple handle. Constructed of high quality fabrics and plastic, this durable set will provide hours of pretend fun! Recommended Ages: 18+ months

Holiday Wishlist 2010 – Powermat Review and Giveaway

If you are anything like my family then you have nine million things that need to be charged. In our house we have three cell phones, two blue tooth devices, three iPod’s and a Nintendo DS and were in desperate need of a charging station.  Thank goodness we got a chance to review the Home & Office Mat with Powercube from Powermat.

The home and office mat with Powercube is really cool because you can charge up to three devices at one time by either using a receiver or the Powercube.  Powermat also offers portable mats for that person who is always on the go.  The Powercube comes with either 2 tips : Mini USB and Micro USB or 8 tips : Mini USB, Micro USB, Samsung, LG, Apple, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DS Lite, Sony PSP making it a very universal device.   The Powercube is what I use to charge my Blackberry 8530, Melinda’s Samsung Fascinate and both of our Jawbone Icon Bluetooth’s.  The Powercube allows you to charge hundreds of devices wirelessly.

The Powermat to me is the most versatile charging system out on the market today with so many different options it would be hard to find a device that it wouldn’t charge.  It is simple to use with its audio confirmation which is a unique sound that lets you know your device is connected properly and charging.  The Powermat also had auto shut off and full charge check allowing you to save energy and not overcharge your device.  It is also a very affordable system versus having to buy multiple home chargers for your cell phone, Bluetooth or any other device you might need to charge at home or while in the office.

If you are looking for a device that is slim, sleek and allows you charge many devices with one plug then you need to get yourself or that gadget person on your holiday list a Powermat.

Want a Powermat of your own head over to Powermat and tell me what item or items you like or something cool about the products.
