Internet or Television

My friends and I were talking earlier this week about whether we would rather give up television or the internet and almost all of us chose to give up TV. It could just be my generation but I use the internet for entertainment far more often than television. The internet is the place where I get all of my news and where I can talk to all my friends, new or old. I watch content on YouTube and read articles on Yahoo. I look at old pictures on Facebook and play games on Lumosity. And I look at blogs just like my parents do (though they are not the same kinds of blogs.) I use the internet the way it should be used, to find interesting and entertaining websites and new and original content that I can tell my friends about and obsess over.
However I don’t believe the internet could ever replace television. Even if the internet could provide every show that is offered on television for the same price as television, people would not be willing to give up there giant flat screen TVs for tiny computer screens. Also television is quickly improving and become higher quality (not necessarily in what kinds of shows we are viewing but in the visual look of the shows.) People are spending more money on their televisions and the packages they purchase to get more channels. TV is a pastime that families can do together and the internet can never replace that.

If you have to choose would you give up television or the internet?

F-Secure Internet Security 2011 Review and Giveaway

The internet is a scary place especially if you have kids that are on the computer so it is important to have good internet security.  Shaun and Shae LOVE to play on the computer so thankfully we got an opportunity to review F-Secure Internet Security 2011.

F-Secure Internet Security 2011 is a fast and easy-to-use software that keeps viruses, worms, spyware, and harmful Internet sites away from your computer. You can explore the wonders of the web without a worry. Keep viruses, identity thieves and hackers away and enjoy the surf.

Some of the key features that F-Secure Internet Security 2011 offers that I thought were pretty cool was the new Browsing Protection feature that tells you which websites are safe to enter and which you should avoid. Harmful sites are blocked automatically to ensure safe surfing while renewed Parental Control keeps children safe from inappropriate web content you which websites are safe to enter and which you should avoid.

I found F-Secure Internet Security 2011 pretty easy to install and to set up.  There is an parental control option where you are able to set up parameters for young kids as well as teens in regards to what sites are appropriate but after spending about 30 minutes playing with it with no success I disabled the feature.  I haven’t gone back since the initial setup to look at the option but plan on it since we just got Sabreena her own laptop for Christmas.

For those of you who are techy like meself below are some system requirements needed in order to run F-Secure Internet Security 2011 effectively:

Supported Platforms

Windows 7 (all editions)
Windows Vista (64-bit, 32-bit)
Windows XP Home, Windows XP Pro, Windows XP Media Center

Disk Space: Maximum 600 MB during installation

All in all I am very impressed with F-Secure and would recommend this product to my friends and family.  I feel you get a great product at a great price.  To protect three computers you can get 1 year of protection for $59.99 and 2 years of protection for $99.99.

Cisco Valet Wireless Router Giveaway

I would die without my internet! Let’s face it most of us would. I’m connected through my laptop and when that is closed I’m connected through my phone. In order to stay online the way I depend on a reliable wireless router. With multiple laptops, smartphones, printers and iPods in the house we need good service and equipment.

Cisco’s Valet is a smart solution for uninterrupted connectivity with easy set-up. Just like it’s cousin the Cisco Flip Video Camera the Valet has adopted the same plug and play ease. Installation took about 10 minutes with the USB key and we ran into no glitches.

The extra features are what impressed me most. Upon setting up our network I found that a guest network could be set up so that visitors can gain access of wi-fi without accessing shared files. This is perfect for keeping your financials safe and family photos safe. The Parental Controls are going to be key in the new year. I can shut off connectivity at a certain time. Sabreena’s been known to lose track of time, this should help her memory a little bit. While most anti-virus software comes with website filtering the Valet is an added touch of protection. Keep your kids eyes off of what they shouldn’t be watching.
Cisco’s award winning customer service is available 24/7 is you get stuck during the installation process. The Valet is priced at $99, a touch more expensive than other routers on the market but truly designed so that everyone can use it.

Win the Cisco Valet for your home here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Tell me how many devices you need to hook up wirelessly.
