Storybook Maker App

In this world of technology there are literally millions of apps in the different markets all trying to grab our attention and get themselves seen.  I have three kids so finding just the right app especially when it isn’t free is very important to me because I am not a fan of wasting money on an app that will never get touched. Recently I was told about an awesome app called Storybook Maker.  At first I was a little hesitant like I am with every new app but after playing with it for a few hours with Shae this app is a huge hit and we love it.

Storybook Maker by Merge Mobile is an app that will allow you and your kids to unleash your creativity and make things like short stories, picture books, photo collages, scrap books and vacation albums.  Shae and I spent a few hours last night making her master piece.  I am not sure if I would call it a short story but it’s very family oriented and includes pictures of our family.  The app is very and I mean very easy to use and self explanatory.  I added the different pictures that Shae wanted but she typed what she wanted to say about each picture.  I did need to help her with spelling but she is only 5 so that is to be expected but other than that she did most of the work with very little help from me.

Shae and I used the photo option (photos I already had on my iPad) in Storybook Maker but each page can be fully customized to include: custom recorded audio, backgrounds and borders, paintings from our intuitive paint tools, text including many fonts and type options, sticker objects from a massive built in library (NO IN APP PURCHASES NECESSARY!) and photos from your photo album.  What I learned last night while playing with this app is that the possibilities are endless because there are so many different features and options that you can create just about anything you want.

Once you are done creating your masterpiece you have three different ways to share it with the world: publish your book as a PDF and email it to everyone you know, publish your book as a Multi-Media book and share it with the world and publish your book to their public library to share with all users of Storybook maker around the world.

I think these would make for really special gifts for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and end of year of a teacher’s gift.  Send this post along to your room mom and get started on pictures of the class and gathering quotes from all the kids.

If you are looking for an iPad app that will keep your kids busy but also allow you to spend quality time with them making awesome books you need to get Storybook Maker from the Apple App store for $4.99. Trust me when I say this app is worth every bit of $4.99.

Keeping Organized with an iPad Mini #giveaway

Being a busy family of 5 means lots to do each day. With school, work, the blog, sports, shopping and home responsibilities that doesn’t leave much time left for quality time together.   Dinner time is the 1 45-minute chunk of the night that we come together and connect, talk and joke.

Planning meal times is sometimes a struggle so I lean towards cookbooks, magazines, pinterest and recipe apps.  Having meal ideas on the go is very important because I can be at the store, see a great deal on an unfamiliar cut of meat and instantly have a handful of recipes at my fingertips.

Some of my favorite Android apps for meal ideas and planning.

Epicurious- Free Android, IOS and Windows Phone

  • Easily access ingredient lists
  • Get the “Recipe of the Day” on your homescreen
  • Step by Step stove side instructions
  • More than 30,000 recipes to choose from

  • Find budget meals
  • See a printable grocery list right on your mobile

  • Get reminders to create your weekly meal plan

All Recipes Dinner Spinner- Free Android, IOS and Windows Phone

  • Browse more than 40,000 recipe
  • Search by single ingredients

These are the apps that I use to maintain my own household just for meal time.  Now I need a schedule setter to help with chores, appointments and keeping track of the kids classmates names.

Digital Artistry with Nomad Brushes

I am very far from being any kind of artist. I’m more of what one would call a crafter. Sabreena on the other hand is the artist and every year we head to the supply stores to stock up on basics and other “ingredients” for projects. Artistry isn’t a very mobile hobby though. What happens when inspiration strikes in the car or visiting the grandparents?

With all the mobile devices at our fingertips Sabreena can virtual draw anytime she wants. The Nomad brushes we recently received went right to Sabreena and she’s been “painting” ever since.

Nomad Brushes were invented by artist Don Lee. After receiving an iPad as a gift and delving right into his digital scrapbook he knew something was needed. The feel of his finger rubbing across a glass screen wasn’t right. He searched for that just right tool but never found it. The Nomad Brush is his gift to the world of digital artistry. There is nothing mechanical about the brush it all about giving the user a more authentic feel while creating. An addition to the Long and Short bristle brushes is a Mini; perfect for smart phones/iPods.

The Nomad Brush is perfect for almost any touchscreen device such as iPad, iPod, Android phones and Galaxy tablets. The brushes require no care except keep them in good condition, do not flatten or crush bristles. A cover or cap would’ve been a great addition so the brush can be tossed into a purse or bag along with the device.

Three (3) LookWhatMomFound.and Dad too! readers will win a Nomad Brush. Tell me what device and APP you use for digital sketching, drawing or painting.

Case Mate iPad 2 Versant Case

For the past two years Melinda and I have wanted an iPad and we finally got one about two months ago. After getting the iPad 2 we realized that we needed some form of protection to protect our investment and thankfully we recently had the opportunity to analyse the Case Mate iPad 2 Versant Case.

The Versant is a multi functional case with a hand strap for gaming, a small stand for typing and a large stand for watching movies. This is an all in one case that helps you fully use your iPad for what is was intended, fun as well as work.

Here are a few more details about the Versant Case:

  • Built-in stand with adjustable heights and attached nylon strap for extra mobility
  • Form fit feature covers back and corners
  • Available in black, pink and brown
  • Impact resistant, flexible shell
  • Access to all ports and functions
So we have been using the Versant Case off and one for about a month now and are very pleased.  It is a great looking case and provides good protection but if I could change one thing I would make the case a little more durable.  With three kids who ALWAYS want to play the iPad I am always afraid they might drop it and I want to feel like I have the most protection I can have.  Other then that slight improvement the Versant Case is a really awesome simple to use case that I would recommend to friends and family.

iPad Protection against little hands

My kids love electronics, they are always asking for my phone, the teens iPod, our iPad or their laptop. I don’t mind letting them play sometimes but I panic when it comes to them handling the actual devices. See, the little one already broke a Nintendo DS by dropping it repeatedly so I’m leary with giving her the iPad especially. I turned to Otterbox and asked for the best ipad protection solution. They recommended the Defender Series iPad case.

otterbox silicone case

Talk about rugged, severe protection. This multi-layer system really protects against drops, bangs and bumps. The 1st step is a silicone shock absorbing wrap. This part is what protects against the drops. I know this because our iPad took a spill the other day and it literally looked like it bounced. The second step is a hard plastic cover which also acts as a stand for video viewing or scrolling through recipes. This is how I read my magazines or scroll websites while eating breakfast.

reading time

top input cover

My only complaint is the loose headphone jack cover. It doesn’t fit into the rest of the casing so it’s not a snug fit. Rob’s smartphone Otterbox had the same problem. It’s not a big deal just a bit annoying. Overall the security of Otterbox outways this small defect. Removing the Otterbox was tough.  We had to watch the installation video 2 times to make sure we were doing the steps correctly.

For those times when you need a little extra security the Utility Series Latch is the only accessory you’ll need.  This strapped holder works perfectly in the car for movies and reading or trips to the pool and park for assurance of NO dropping.  It can be used with or without the Defender Series attached.  This particular carrier works with the iPad, iPad 2 and the Motorola Zoom.

Otterbox is known for being the innovator of protection for everything from cell phones, mp3 players and ereaders. While they aren’t the most sleek and modern looking they do provide the most protection again little hands and multitasking moms.
