Frozen Planet Blu-Ray Recap

In our house we like to watch anything that has to do with the earth or nature and recently we got a chance to analyse a copy of Frozen Planet.  In addition to the DVD series we also received a cool penguin hat and some awesome cookies that the kids couldn’t get enough of.

From the Emmy-winning team behind Planet Earth and The Blue Planet: Seas of Life, this is the original 7-part BBC series, Frozen Planet, narrated by world-renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough and including over 90 minutes of footage not shown on television plus over four hours of bonus materials!

Last Sunday it was a rainy day out so we all stayed in and made lunch with popcorn and cookies and watched the first DVD in the series which included The ends of the earth, Spring and Summer.  It was about 3 hours long and Shae hung in for about an hour but Melinda, Sabreena, Shaun and I watch the whole first disc which was AWESOME.  It is awesome to see  animals like polar bears and killer whales close up in their natural habitat and it is amazing that people are able to brave the elements to catch this kind of footage.

Barbie and sisters celebrate A Perfect Christmas-DVD giveaway

barbie a perfect christmas dvd coverDid you know Barbie has 3 sisters; Skipper, Stacey and Chelsea. It’s been quite a long time since I’ve seen any Barbie shows or even glanced at a doll. Now that Shae is getting a little older she’s recognizing characters on TV. When I got the opportunity to review The all-new DVD, “Barbie: A Perfect Christmas” I thought it might be a nice change of pace from her typical Disney and Scooby Doo movies we’re used to.

The DVD came on a Thursday and by the time Tuesday rolled around we had watched it 4 times. Shae instantly memorized the songs and funny dialogue and would run room to room to get the family to watch certain parts with her like when Chelsea finds the cute husky puppy. The movie is cute and animated quite well but the story behind it sends a nice message. Christmas isn’t about getting the perfect present it’s about creating the Perfect Christmas with the ones you love and creating memories that last a lifetime.

Barbie: A Perfect Christmas is the 22nd movie in 10 years for the iconic doll. With the holidays right around the corner this is the ideal opportunity to introduce little girls to an amazing story and character that will grow with them. DVDS make great gifts and stocking stuffers along with the Dolls to match the story.

Rapunzel, let down your hair Giveaways

disney-tangled-rapunzel-bluray-dvd-movieIf you haven’t heard of Walt Disney Animation Studios newest film, Tangled, you may be living under a rock. Ever since seeing a pre-screening Shae has been obsessed. To make the love affair worse Shae was sent a Tolly Tots Rapunzel doll for review.

She must’ve known something special was in the box because Shae wouldn’t leave my side when it arrived. She was suspicious like usual but it was like she could sense it was a treat just for her. Toddler Rapunzel is adorable. Long, long, long flowing hair, a crown, a brush, shoes and pretty dress. Upon taking it out of the box I instantly recruited Sabreena to brush out the hair; I didn’t want it to end up matted and ugly. Since then it’s been braided, twisted, brushed, dragged, chewed and rubber banded numerous times. We’ve had some hair loss but nothing tragic. Right now Rapunzel sits on Shae’s toybox where her little cousins hands can’t reach her. She gets caressed and her crown gets adjusted each day;  toddler Rapunzel gets the royal treatment.

she's actually watching Tangled at this very moment

Have you seen Tangled? I have; about 200 times. I’m not kidding. There were a couple weeks when it first came out in March that it was on 2-3 times a day. Now it’s died down to 2-3 times a week. I don’t mind really because it’s a great movie. Shae loves the story and loves the characters even more; so much that she duped convinced Rob into buying her a Flynn Rider doll.

One of Sabreenas favorite movies

In 2004 Disney and Pixar released one of my favorite children’s movies of all time: The Incredibles. Now they are releasing it all over again, but this time in Blu-ray. The disk now comes with all new special features including, Paths To Pixar: Story Artists which showcases multiple Pixar story artists, giving viewers exciting insight into their work, their inspiration and the personal paths that eventually led them to a career at Pixar and also “The New Nomanisan” Island Redevelopment Plan, which is a guided tour of Nomanisan Island, post-Syndrome, pitching the island as a vacation resort paradise. The DVD in the combo pack also includes all of the old features like the short film “Jack-Jack Attack” and the animated short “Boundin’.”

This movie follows Bob Parr and his family of superheroes who are forced into hiding after a little incident with a man who didn’t want to be saved. After a series of outrageous circumstances, including Mr. Parr throwing a man through a few walls, Bob has to find another line of work and is recruited by a mysterious platinum blonde woman named Mirage to stop a rouge robot on a private island. Even more hilarity ensues when Mrs. Parr finds out about Bob’s lies and goes to this island to find him.

That’s when the plot twists and everything changes for this family. At the end they learn to work together and to not be scared or ashamed of what makes them different. I think the reason I love this movie so much is because of its originality and unique story and characters. Each character in lovable, even the evil ones.

This story made me want superpowers and a giant robot that could attack me so I could show them off.

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? Over Here!!!!

I know I have written or have at least mentioned before about how much my kids LOVE Scooby Doo but in case you missed it I will tell you again. I’m talking borderline obsessive. For instance Shae loves Scooby Doo so much she dressed up as Velma for Halloween this year. Before I met Melinda I had a ton of Scooby Doo stuff in my apartment like a cookie jar, shower curtain, trash can, etc. Believe it or not Melinda still married me even after see all of that stuff, LOL. Ok, back to my point.

Shae watches Scooby Doo non-stop either on TV or one of the 15 DVD’s we own. I was excited when I heard on November 9th they are releasing Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: The Complete Series and we were lucky enough to have received a copy for review.

I thought that the DVD’s being stored in the back of the Mystery Machine was really cool and something that would really draw people to this collector set. The one thing I can see as a problem is that the DVD’s come in a cardboard sleeve. I am afraid Shae and Shaun might ruin them but other than that this is an awesome Collector’s Edition that is a must have. This limited edition collector’s set contains three seasons of Scooby Doo, 41 episodes in total spread across 7 discs and an eighth disc will also be included and contains NEW BONUS MATERIALS.

I can’t wait until Christmas so I can watch all of these episodes with Shae and Shaun but mostly with Shae since she is the Scooby Doo freak at this present point in time. Rooby Rooby Roo!!!!

This DVD set will be available November 9th with an estimate MSRP of $59.99

Finally I Did It!!!

I finally got a bug up my butt a day or two ago to use my VCR2PC and finish turning our HI8 tapes into video format so that I can burn them to DVD.  It is a long a boring process since you need to play them in real time but I will tell you the one upside is watching old family memories that I had forgotten about.

We have tapes from when Sabreena was 4yrs old and playing soccer, Shaun’s birth, Shae’s birth, trips to the Pocono’s and NYC and so many more awesome memories.  Tonight while the kids were eating dinner Shae was watching a video I was converting of Shaun when he was 3 and Shae kept saying “look how cute Shaunie is”.  Shae was mesmerized by the video and LOVED it.  I am looking forward to getting these converted and burning them to DVD so we can make some popcorn, sit down as a family and watch all of our family memories.  I am excited just thinking about it.

Tom and Jerry Tales: The Complete First Season

I remember watching Tom and Jerry when I was a kid now my 7 year old son loves to watch Tom and Jerry. We received a copy of Tom and Jerry Tale:The Complete First Season and he has been watching it non stop.

Who doesn’t love a good cat and mouse fight? LOL. I love the fact that Jerry always out smarts Tom no matter what the situation. What I find hard to believe is that after 30 years Tom still hasn’t figured out how to beat Jerry. Maybe I am reading too much into this but I would have though that Tom would have succeeded in catching Jerry by now.

I know when my son is watching Tom and Jerry Tales because all I hear from his bedroom is non-stop laughing. I must admit Tom and Jerry is a good laugh. If you are having a bad day watching Tom and Jerry will make you feel better because Tom always has bad days. My son loves when me and him sit down to watch Tom and Jerry. It brings back memories of my childhood and I am really happy to be sharing this experience with my son. Maybe when my son is a dad and has kids we can all sit down together and watch Tom and Jerry together. Tom and Jerry is an American Classic.

Please note that quantities are limited for this holiday season and the packaging may vary from what it seen in the photos.

Our children have used Brainy Baby DVDs over the years and I believe they helped Shaun at the age of 2 to recognize a huge variety of animals for his daycare’s show and tell time. Shae has also had great success with alphabet, numbers, colors and shape recognition at a young age. The videos along with interactive flashcards, books and music helped foster a constant learning environment without losing the play factor.

With the addition of 2 new babies in the family I hope they will also love to learn as my children have. The DVDs we received, Jingle Bells and ABC’s will hopefully get the same loving reception that our Brainy Baby products did over the years.
