NRG Energy & Lincoln Financial Field

2014 disclosureFor my 40th birthday I experienced a first; I attended my first NFL football game. Rob and I were able to attend the Philadelphia Eagles vs Tennessee Titans at Lincoln Financial Field on November 23rd. Philadelphia fans are notorious for being aggressive and rowdy especially to opposing teams so we were a tad nervous walking up to the stadium. As you can see Rob is a Titans fan.

We supported our hometeam too by wearing Connor Barwin jerseys. He’s my football crush this year and somehow I’ve wrangled Rob into watching his plays too. Barwin plays with so much heart and passion, he’s becoming a leader on the field. That’s the kind of player I look up to.
Being at the stadium to watch the game was so much fun and we never felt like we were going to be bothered by being Titans fans. In fact in our section there were about 6 other Titans fans proudly displaying their hats, jersey’s and blankets.

The Lincoln Financial Field is a fairly new addition to the area, just opening in 2003. It’s one of the most state of the art sports complexes out there. It’s part of the largest solar array in the area and the biggest of any other stadium housing 11,000 solar panels and 14 wind turbines; generating more than 3MW of power. That’s 4times more than they can use in a season so the renewable energy is sold back to the area.

Not only are the solar panels functional they are visually stunning making the “Linc” a gorgeous landmark for Philadelphia. All of the visually-stunning panels and turbines NRG Energy brought to life at Lincoln Financial Field are important to the future of energy, with each panel and turbine serving as a tangible representation of the clean energy solutions NRG champions in our communities.

The partnership between the Philadelphia Eagles and NRG Energy is one that is beneficial to everyone involved. They’ve introduced sustainability in a new and attractive way that demonstrates the ability to incorporate a green future that positively affects many.

The Clean Fifteen

We’ve all heard about the Dirty Dozen; the list of potentially contaminated fruits and veggies. This list contains the produce that typically harbor the highest percentage of pesticide residue.

The Clean 15 is the list of produce that contain generally low amounts of pesticides due to their outer covering, rind or chemical make-up. Strong smelling onions are naturally pest resistant due to their odor.

  1. Onions
  2. Corn
  3. Pineapples
  4. Avocados
  5. Asparagus
  6. Sweet Peas
  7. Mangoes
  8. Eggplant
  9. Domestic Cantaloupe
  10. Kiwi
  11. Cabbage
  12. Watermelon
  13. Sweet Potatoes
  14. Grapefruit
  15. Mushrooms

The best route to take when selecting fresh produce is stay local and thoroughly rinse everything before eating and cooking. Eating lots of fruits and vegatables regardless of the list they come from far outweighs the risks of ingesting the residual pesticide on it’s skin or flesh.

Back to School with Lunchopolis Giveaway

The kids go back to school soon and with that comes better meal planning for lunch time. Lunchopolis lunchbox by Enviro Products sent us 2 systems to review to ensure they take along healthy food choices in a safe and convenient way.

I prefer fruit and veggies for snacks but often toss in yogurt, pudding, granola bars, cheese and crackers as additional options and treats for the kids. This systems give me container sizes that are perfect for lots of choices or the option to not use the containers for the times things are prepackaged. My only upgrade idea would be to fit in a small cup for dip, dressing or peanut butter. My kids like apples and peanut butter but there isn’t an easy way to transport it.

This system is perfect for adults too. The sandwich box is perfect for leftovers or a salad and the smaller containers keep healthy non-vending machine options right at your fingertips. Shop for Lunchopolis insultated lunchbox systems at New Wave Enviro. Keep the planet clean and green with less waste and trash.

WIN your own Lunchopolis lunchbox by Enviro Products by telling me a healthy lunch option for kids.

Rebagz Redefines Fashion with Recycling

Reduce Reuse Recycle. We’ve all heard it a hundred times but what does it really mean. Rebagz has it down with their collection of handbags, totes, wristlets and more. All Rebagz Handbags are made using recycled materials AND under fair labor conditions.

Rebagz uses coated recycled paper, recycled PET plastic, recycled juice packs and recycled rice sacks that already have beautiful graphics printed on them. These bags are handmade so may vary slightly than the picture you see online. The Juicy Hand Woven collection is made from-you guessed it-juice pouches so they are water resistant and washable with a simple wipe down. The Rice Sack Graphics line is made from rice sacks that already come beautifully designed, no screen printing is done to these bags.

All rebag. She’s made several trips to ensure her vision is carried through properly. Rebagz is also proud to carry Green America’s Seal of Approval; a unique non-profit dedicated to promoting social justice and environmental sustainability through economic action.

Sabreena was given the Juicy Hand Woven Wrap Around Bag in red. If you know anything about Sabreena you know she’s our advocate for a greener, cleaner more sustainable world. I knew she would love this bag as soon as I stumbled on Rebagz. I personally love the Rice Sack Cinchy Tote either as an all purpose tote or diaperbag or overnight bag. The design is beautiful, the print is feminine and the end result is truly unique.

Bissell Steam Mop for Green Cleaning

Having a clean home is something I take pride in. I mean yes there is clutter sometimes; magazines, toys, coats, shoes, all those normal things you get with 5 people living in one house. I’m talking clean as in no spills, dirt, grime, mold, dust and grunge in our living space. Years ago we made some switches to “green” cleaning for a healthier clean. One of our most recent additions is the Bissel Steam Mop.

Is it possible to love an appliance, I mean really love it! I do! This thing is awesome. It gets used every day on our kitchen tile and weekly on our bathroom tile and a couple times a week in the living room hardwood. My father has one too and now so does my sister’ it’s a family affair.

The Bissel Steam Mop is the simplest floor cleaner ever. Simply fill the reservoir with water, plug in and wait just a minute or two. I’m not lying; I really mean a minute or two. As soon as the red light comes on it’s ready to go with pure, clean, chemical-free steam. Anything sticky wipes up with ease and bacteria laden bathrooms are sparkling. It’s also really lightweight so carrying it from floor to floor is a cinch. The best “green” cleaning tool on the market!

Back to School Seventh Generation Cleaning Kit Giveaway-CLOSED

With the kids going back to school in couple short weeks they’ll be bringing home more than just test scores. According to the CDC nearly 22 million school days are missed each year due to the common cold and flu. It’s time to fight back without destroying the planet. Seventh Generation’s complete line of cleaning supplies are a natural, non-toxic solution to bleaches and other harmful disinfectants. Using botanicals is a clean way to kill germs and wash away dirt on a daily basis.

This school year, Seventh Generation is sharing tips from best-selling author and pediatrician, Dr. Alan Greene, to help parents protect their child’s health during back-to-school season. Dr. Greene suggests taking the following precautions:

Optimize the immune system

  • Reap the benefits of probiotics like those found in yogurt. A recent study showed that children who received enough probiotics daily throughout the cold and flu season had a significant reduction in the number of illnesses they had and, when they did get sick, the symptoms were both milder and didn’t last as long.
  • Be sure your child is getting plenty of vitamin D from the sun, from food, or from a supplement.
  • Build a strong foundation. Good food, good sleep, and good physical activity all help the immune system to flourish.

Be wise about reducing unnecessary exposure to harmful germs

  • Teach children the key times to clean their hands in the classroom. The most important times include after sneezing, coughing or using the restroom, upon leaving “high-risk” places (recess, naptime, play stations) and before meals or snacks.
  • Sixty percent of teachers surveyed said that they request that parents donate disinfecting wipes to the classroom. Seventh Generation’s disinfecting wipes kill 99.99% of germs* naturally using the active ingredient thyme, a component of thyme oil which is derived from the herb thyme.
  • Stress the importance of not touching their eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Demonstrate to your children how to cover their mouth and nose for every cough and sneeze. This simple maneuver has spectacular results in decreasing the spread of viruses and bacteria floating about the room, waiting to be inhaled.

Start the school year off on the right foot with a Seventh Generation “Back-to-School” kit that includes everything shown in the picture above. We received one as part of this promotion and I set it aside to provide to Shaun’s new teacher. Win a whole kit for yourself or to donate to your child’s school. Visit Seventh Generation and come back and tell me another product you would like to try in your own home.

Spa results from Aromafloria’s For Feet’s Sake

My feet are a wreck this summer; It doesn’t help that I walk barefoot around the house, in the yard, in the garage, at the pool, on the sidewalk, etc. I have my trusty dead skin shaver that really helps but I’ve never done anything beyond that. Aromafloria’s For Feet’s Sake collection is exactly what my feet never knew they needed.

Aromafloria is a natural, eco-friendly beauty, home and bath company focusing on essential oils, minerals, herbs and botanicals. For over 25 years they’ve been bringing nature into the lives of many customers. They believe
…wellness is a state of mind
…the sense of smell is a vital key in well being
…in the restorative power of a bath
…that art and science are converging beautifully

All of this means that a more holistic and natural approach to everyday living will result in a more peaceful, stress-free and harmonious attitude and overall outlook. How do you feel when you come out of a spa, moments after your massage or pedicure? Relaxed and cheerful right! Aromafloria is giving us that effect in our own home.

I’ve been using the entire For Feet’s Sake collection for a couple weeks now. It’s not an overnight change but I’ve been very pleased with the progress. I’ve even learned to wear socks around the house so I’m not wasting my time tending to the tootsies. The Refreshing Spa Foot & Leg Mist is a pleasant surprise. I at first thought it was going to be a useless product, just a scented water but it softens and relaxes not just my feet but my legs. I use this up to my knees after shaving and there is no burning or redness. The scrub I need to get used to though. It doesn’t have a creamy enough texture or base to spread the way I want all over my feet. Directions day about a tablespoon amount per foot but I feel I need a lot more to really get all over. I’m going to try a different method the next time, maybe less water will work better.

Whether for your home or hands Aromafloria is a successful tool in aroma-therapy, de-stressing and quality pampering.
