Say #ThanksBaby this Mother’s Day and Giveaway

Every day I’m reminded of how important being a mother is. It’s not only the faces of my sleeping kids, their arms reaching out to me or their foreheads pressed on my lips. I glance up at the photos of their births and other milestones. I wear jewelry that commemorates moment they’ve impacted my life.

To each of my children I want to give you the strength to be a great person in whatever path you choose to live your life. The road ahead is bumpy and full of many turns. You’ll be faced with decisions that don’t seem fair. Lean on each other for guidance and inspiration.

Follow your heart. Always.

This year for Mother’s Day Pampers wants to make sure we’re saying “Thanks Baby” because without them there wouldn’t be mother’s to celebrate.pampers logo
I may be far past the stage of diaper changes and midnight feedings but I still see my children as my babies. I remember those first moments of life the first steps and the 1st day of school. I’m running out of firsts but I’m the mother I always wanted to be. I have a family that comes to me for hugs, support and advice. I have a family that is connected to each other with their hearts and emotion.

Shopping for the #GreatestMom at Best Buy

I’m what some would call a Jane Of All Trades. I cook for the masses, dabble in DIY, craft with the kids, upcycle old into new, chauffer the kidlets to and fro, pack for a 3 day getaway in 15 minutes flat and can put a party together on a budget. To say I’m always on the go is an understatement. I do all of this because I’m a mother, the #GreatestMom.

If you’ve recently checked your calendar you might have noticed it’s coming to that time of year to celebrate mom on her special day, Mother’s Day. Families all over the country rally in support of all the tear stained tissues, lost sippy cups, late hours and blank stares that mom’s have had to deal with. Flowers, cards and mani/pedi offers are sweet but let’s look at what moms REALLY want.Mother's Day Gifts from @BestBuy

For the Foodie mom who thinks she has the finest cookware and the spiciest chili oil already. But what about a new KitchenAid Ultra Power Tilt-Head Stand Mixer or a new Keurig special edition Coffee Brewer?

Maybe you aren’t so handy in the kitchen but can beat your kids to the top of the hill on a footrace. Have you gotten your hands on a new FitBit Flex or Speck CandyShell iPhone Case to keep your tunes safe with running the next 5K.

Me, being on the go go go I want gifts that make my life simpler, easier, more fun. A Plantronics Bluetooth Headset lets me chat handsfree so I can whip up lunch, pack the minivan for lacrosse and carpool 5 smelly boys without missing one update on my growing nieces. An HP 14″ Chromebook is the mother of all gifts. Editing photos, finalizing graduation card lists and adding to the birthday calendar can all be done while in the carpool line.

Whatever personality you take on as a mom Best Buy has you covered with a selection of gifts that to make you smile. Visit BestBuy.com for more ideas to share with those that love you most to open their wallets and throw down some dollars to show how much they really care. Don’t worry, there are plenty of gifts under $100 for the more budget conscious.Mother's Day Gifts from @BestBuyAnd shop with confidence at Best Buy knowing you’re gonna get the best price because of their Low Price Guarantee. Mother’s Day SunCatcher Craft from Plastic Container

With Mother’s Day right around the corner I’ve been thinking of what my youngest could make for my mother. She doesn’t need mugs or aprons or vases or flowers. I’ve been told not to buy another frame because their shelves are overflowing already. Personally I love a little something homemade.

This “stained glass” flower was simple enough for anyone to do and best of all it was free, made with materials that would’ve ended up in the recycle bin.

Sun Catcher from Plastic Container

Supplies
Plastic Strawberry or Spinach container (or other produce)
Sharpies
Image of choice (printed clip art, magazine or coloring book)
Scissors
Fishing line for hanging

Directions
Find your largest space of flat plastic from your container, cut it out and clean and dry it.
Suncatcher Supplies
Find an imageyour want to trace onto the plastic piece. I went for very little detail this time around but more details would look great. Tape your plastic over your image an trace it with a black marker. For more intricate images I would suggest a fine point marker.
Tracing Suncatcher Image

Once your image is completely outlined proceed to fill in to. I used brush tip Sharpies for these larger areas.

Once your plastic is dried go ahead and cut along the outline and poke a tiny hole (pushpin) in the top and thread your wire or string. Hang in a sunny window.

As you can see I made this on my own. This was a test before I had the kids work on it. It came out great and I plan to make more with all kinds of designs.

Last Minute Mother’s Day

Speaking from a mom’s perspective I’m going to say that gifts don’t need to be expensive or elaborate to be appreciated. Handmade Gifts are number one on my list but I’m never one to turn down a well thought out practical gift that I will love. Here’s a quick list of some last minute and reasonably priced Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Tervis Tumblers – Is mom a runner, dancer, survivor?  Choose a Tervis tumbler in almost any design to hold hot and cold drinks. Made in the USA

Kitchen Canisters– Give mom’s kitchen a pop of color with these yellow and metal canisters from Pier One.

Beach Bag-With summer right around the corner beach bags that accommodate families with lots of stuff would be very handy.  This vibrant bag from Old Navy is large enough for towels, sunscreen and more.

Magazine Subscriptions-who doesn’t like to take a few minutes along to leaf through a magazine.  Subscribe to mom’s favorite magazine or one that you know she would love.

Mixed Tape-Long gone are the days of actual mixed tapes but a new playlist could speak volumes. Download mom’s old school favorites, high energy dance tunes or emotional love songs for a gift that lasts forever.

Beauty Products-Women in general love to feel beautiful.  Let them indulge in a fragrant, silky or moisture rich beauty or bath product that they wouldn’t normally buy for themselves like the many choices from Philosophy.

What’s on your wishlist for Mother’s Day this year?  This happened to catch my eye, wonder if I need to give Rob a couple hints.

Without them you’d have nothing to celebrate

Mother’s Day –noun a day, usually the second Sunday in May, set aside in honor of mothers.

celebrating mothers day with your kids
No matter how commercialized Mother’s Day (and ever other holiday) has become it’s still something that should be celebrated. Mother’s are some of the hardest working people on the planet. Whether she’s a SAHM, WAHM, Work out of the HM, Traveling mom, celebrity mom, mom of multiples, mom of 1 or a Tiger mom the job never ends.

We all play different roles and varied jobs with our kids but none is less important than the next persons. We work to keep our families, healthy, happy, safe, inspired and loved. When Mother’s Day comes around we expect a little commotion on our behalf regarding the great job we are doing. To me this celebration should include the kids; you know those things that call you mom, mommy, momma, mom, momma, mommy, mother, mommy……all day long.

Breakfast in bed, a picnic in the park or a day at the museum can all include the entire brood. A spa day, while a great gift, isn’t a celebration of motherhood.  If next Tuesday I’ve had enough of the busy schedule I can leave the house and get that much needed mani/pedi but Mother’s Day is about being a mother. I understand our need for some alone time, some time to re energize and reboot.  I’m the first to shed a tear out of frustration because the noise level is high or the to-do list is never-ending but that’s what I signed up for. I prefer to celebrate this occasion with the children that gave me the title.

Mother’s Day is about commemorating the job well done and in my opinion it makes the most sense to do it with the ones that call you mom.

Holiday Wishlist 2010-Simon & Lucy My Story Necklace Giveaway

Gift giving should be from the heart whether it’s Christmas, Mother’s Day or a Birthday. Give mom the gift of love and honor this Holiday Season with a My Story personalized necklace from Simon and Lucy.

simon and lucy my story necklace

I design and hand stamp a collection that I call: the My Story collection. I love to design a piece for a person that encompasses everything important to them from the past, present and perhaps the future. It’s a unique process that allows me to learn a little bit about the person I am designing for in order to design a necklace just for them. Even if you don’t know where to start, I do and I will help you through the process and make it relatively painless for you.

It’s quite magical when my clients see their necklace and they start reminiscing as they look at each charm. I LOVE it and so do they!

All pieces are one-of-a-kind and created with you in mind.

A My Story necklace is a custom piece of jewelry that tells your story, your journey, your life, your future. Included are the details closest to you; children’s names, birthdates, symbols and more. Earlier in the year I received my own My Story necklace; it included of course my kid’s names, my nieces, my parents, a blue crystal to symbolize my birthstone and a special pendant for my mother, a very special person on my life.

Simon and Lucy want to giveaway another My Story necklace (value $155) this season. Visit Simon and Lucy and tell me what you would include in your necklace. If you are giving this to someone else, what do you think they would include.

Mother’s Jewelry with a Twist from Gemvara Evulation

My sister and sister-in-law became first time moms last year (11 days apart) so when Gemvara approached me about reviewing a custom Letter Pendant I knew it would be a perfect gift for my sister. You see I’ve been a mom for many years, I received my fair share of mother’s rings, gemstone pendants, macaroni necklaces and more. I thought the Letter Pendant would be a timeless but unique piece of mother’s jewelry for my sister.

My sister and BIL are done having kids, Madi is their first and will be their last so I knew getting an “M” initial would be something cherished forever. This necklace and pendant gift serves a dual purpose for Kim actually; obviously the “M” stands for Madi but it also stands for Matt, her husband who baby Madison is named after.

I got to choose from 16 gemstones, 8 metals and 4 chain styles. This made for endless combinations, perfect for any situation, personal style and budget.  For my sister I choose a silver pendant and chain with a “diamond” accent (her birthstone).  I opened the gift box and was greeted by a beautifully bright and lovely piece, I knew my sister was going to love it. The necklace and pendant came beautifully wrapped a couple weeks after deciding on the design. This is because is pendant is custom made to the buyers request.

Designer Ji Hwang designs jewelry with a fluid graceful line, like strokes of a painter’s brush. Her pieces are often inspired by the natural world, abstracted into modern sculpture. Her work reveals nature’s subtle aesthetic, capturing the beauty of its form, the simplicity of its design, and the vitality of its colors without embellishment. She often finds that by simplifying, she often can best reflect the essence of nature. A classically trained jewelry artist educated at Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institute in New York City, Ji’s work is instantly recognizable to jewelry connoisseurs.

Gemvara is about more than mother’s  jewelry and letter pendants.  With a wealth of talented designers contributing to the online shop Gemvara offers it’s buyer the chance to customize almost everything to suit your needs and wants.

Gemvara jewelry is made to order just for you:

  • We hand-select high-quality conflict-free natural gems to perfectly fit your design.
  • A 3D model is created in wax and used to mold the setting.
  • We use recycled or responsibly mined precious metals to cast your jewelry.
  • The piece is meticulously finished and polished by hand.
  • Your stones are carefully set into place by a skilled craftsperson.
  • We quality-check every detail to make sure it meets our high standards.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

To my wonderful wife of 9 years you are my best friend an awesome wife and the BEST mother. You are there when the kids need you most with an uplifting word, tissue for that snotty nose or a Band-Aid for a booboo that doesn’t exists but you give the kids one anyway because you know it will make them happy. You do what you can at all times to make sure the kids and I am happy and well taken care of and that the house is in order. Without you we would be in serious trouble. I love you more than words can explain and I am glad you are the mother of my children. Have a Great Mothers Day’s. I Love You!!!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out in the blogesphere.  Hope you have a great day!

My Perfect Mother’s Day would be……

lying on a chaise lounge watching the kids frolic in the sand and surf with a fruity drink in my hand

In a perfect world my perfect Mother’s Day would be a surprise trip to Hawaii for 2 weeks where our plans consisted of pure indulgent laziness with an occasional excursion and massage thrown in. This dream is free of time commitments and financial burden so I’m free to imagine anything I want.

In reality I expect breakfast and a day of hanging around the house, maybe some yard work, flowers and handmade cards. Not a complaint from me at all. This is my life, the life I choose, the life I wouldn’t trade.

I’m a mom, I don’t know anything else. I have friends and family and the blog and other hobbies but mommyhood comes first. If given the chance to give it all up and do something else without any guilt I wouldn’t. What else is there? I suppose I could answer with securing a promising career or traveling the world first but without my babies what is the point.

I’m not the best mom in the world hell sometimes I’m not the best mom I could be but I embrace it completely and don’t regret a single moment, a single decision and single tear or a single gray hair.
