Watch #Blended Movie plus #Giveaway

Starting off the “summer season” of movies is Blended, the third comedy collaboration between stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, following their successful onscreen pairings in the hit romantic comedies “50 First Dates” and one of my all time favorites “The Wedding Singer”.

Romantic comedies aren’t just for women these days. Especially when you have a cast like this. Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Joel McHale, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kevin Nealon, Jessica Lowe, Terry Crews, Shaquille O’Neal, Bella Thorne, Emma Fuhrmann, Alyvia Alyn Lynd, Kyle Red Silverstein, Braxton Beckham.

Blended

After a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren (Barrymore) and Jim (Sandler) agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week.

Blended comes to theaters May 23, 2014 and is brought to you by Warner Bros.

What I Walked Away With #MrPeabody

In case you were following my feed on Twitter or Facebook you probably figured out I was in NYC last weekend for something to do with new Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie coming out March 7th.

I was invited to not just screen the movie but to talk to the director and actors about how the movie came about and their opinions on how the audience will view it.

#MrPeabody & Sherman and Bloggers
If you were a kid growing up in the 1960’s you might remember Peabody’s Improbable History. This animation was about a well accomplished dog and his adopted son Sherman. Dreamworks Animation has revised that original story into a modern day adaptation called Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

The background is essentially the same, Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell, Emmy Award® Winner -Modern Family) is a special dog; a genius, Olympian, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, inventor and business tycoon who adopts a boy, Sherman, (Max Charles -The Amazing Spiderman) with the approval of government.

They travel time in the WABAC machine to significant periods in history. These adventures of course are meant to be educational but things go awry and they wreck havoc on these important moments.MPS-four

I took away a few different messages from the movie, I’m guessing that was the point.

It takes more than a title to be a father. While Mr. Peabody has officially adopted Sherman there was something missing in their relationship. It took a series of misadventures for Mr. Peabody to see Sherman as not just his human but his family, his son.

While Mr. Peabody and Sherman have an unconventional family it’s a family nonetheless. Others looked at them and saw differences and didn’t agree with the way they were living.

Glimpses of historical moments ignited a passion for learning in me. I’m hoping that it does the same for children as they watch the movie. As your children ask “Did that really happen”, it should encourage a dialog and possible examination into the true story.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman is more than just a kid’s animation film. It’s a family movie that grasps at different emotions and aspects of life. The WABAC machine might take them back in time but the lessons learned will help them forge a hopeful and evolving relationship for the future.

Starring Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Leslie Mann, Patrick Warburton, Stanley Tucci, Allison Janney, Lake Bell, Zach Callison, Dennis Haysbert
Directed by Rob Minkoff
Produced by Alex Schwartz, Denise Nolan Cascino
Executive Produced by Tiffany Ward, Eric Ellenbogen, Jason Clark

Mr. Peabody and Sherman in theaters March 7th

World Traveler, Business Mogul, Olympic Gold Medalist. None of these roles is as important as parent.

Mr Peabody and Sherman in theaters March 7th Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell), the most accomplished dog in the world, and his mischievous boy Sherman (Max Charles), use their time machine—the WABAC—to go on the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog. But when Sherman takes The WABAC out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidentally rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history.

MPS_sq400_s1_f244_4k_final_w3.0Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era: figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time traveling trio will make their mark on history.

I’ll be heading to NYC this weekend to screen Mr. Peabody and Sherman and chat with Ty Burrell, Max Charles and Rob Minkoff (Director). I’m hoping to learn more about their own challenges and accomplishments with family, parenting and careers.

Despicable Me 2 Recapitulation

Since the worldwide blockbuster Despicable Me entertained audiences around the globe in 2010, grossing more than $540 million Gru has ben a doting dad to his girls, Margo, Edith and Agnes and an aspiring entrepreneur. Life has been calm and actually quite boring that is until he is visited by Lucy Wilde, a secret agent who overpower’s Gru’s infamous “freeze ray” and kidnaps him.

This entire experience puts Gru back in the game just on a different team.. As a new member of the Anti-Villain League (AVL) Gru and his new partner Lucy work to bring down a super-villain called El Macho that not only wants to the take over the world but also tear apart Gru’s extended family.  The minions are in trouble and Gru along with the help of the girls and loyal Dr Nefario.

Rob, Shaun, Shae and I got the chance to see an early screening of Despicable Me 2 in White Marsh, MD (our old stomping grounds) and we loved it. Rob and I sat on opposite ends of the kids and I heard him chuckling throughout the entire film. Despicable Me 2 was written for ALL audiences. From Gru’s dating catastrophes to the soulful music of Pharrell Williams this movie is definitely going to be a family favorite no matter who is in your family.

Despicable Me Valentines to Share

A couple years ago we were presented with a new friend, we named him Walter. Walter was a Depsicable Me minion.  He was found getting a bath  in the front yard, sunbathing by the pool and taking a swim.  He was a great friend.

Brave On Demand Viewing Party

Enchanted forests and lush green hills. This was the backdrop of Disney Pixar’s Brave. The kids, my mom and I were in line that first weekend it was out in the movies and we also were first to order Brave when it became available on On Demand on November 13th. We were so excited in fact that we invited friends over for a Brave Viewing Party after school.

shae and her best friend rhoslyn

This time of year is busy so I thought a movie and snacks would be a great treat for the kids along with a red carpet and backdrop. While the kids waited for the entire group to arrive they enjoyed getting their pictures taken and indulging in some sweet snacks.

During the movie the kids got involved in Brave themed activity and coloring sheets. Since On Demand lets us rent the movie for 3 days you know it was watched another 3 times.

Pixar Animation Studios whisks you away on an astonishing adventure to an ancient land full of mystery and tradition. Bursting with heart, unforgettable characters and Pixar’s signature humor, for the whole family. The Film is rated PG.

Set in the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland, Disney Pixar’s “Brave” follows the heroic journey of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to change her fate, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane), unleashing chaos in the kingdom. When she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters), she is granted an ill-fated wish and the ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her resources—including her mischievous triplet brothers—to undo a beastly curse and discover the meaning of true bravery.

Hotel Transylvania Activity Guide

Halloween is a great time of year for finding things to do with the kids. We’ve been having a great time in our house, making toffee apples, carving pumpkins (carefully!) and creating our costumes for a bit of trick-or-treating.

This time of year always brings with it a few good family films as well, and this year is no exception. Hotel Transylvania is a rip-roaring piece of Halloween-themed fun that will delight the kids and raise more than a few chuckles amongst the older members of the audience – just the way a good family film should!

hotel transylvania activity guide

Hotel Transylvania Activity Guide courtesy of Sony Pictures

Adam Sandler is known for turning out some fairly turgid comedies over the years, as well as a few surprisingly good films along the course of his career too. In Hotel Transylvania he provides the voice for Dracula. He is supported by a big name cast, with Selena Gomez voicing Mavis, and Kevin James playing Frankenstein.

The great thing about this film is that it brings all the fun of Halloween without too many of the frights, meaning your little ones can enjoy it no matter their age. With monsters as the good guys, and humans as the villains, there’s some great laughs and the voice acting is of the very highest calibre.

Let’s not kid ourselves – you wouldn’t be going out of your way to catch Hotel Transylvania with your partner on a romantic night out at your local Vue Cinemas. It’s strictly kids’ stuff. But it’s good, wholesome kids’ stuff that you will happily enjoy.
