10 Christening Gift Ideas

While a child will never remember the day he or she was christened, for parents, extended family, church family, and friends, a christening means the world. Giving a child its Christian name and dedicating the little one to God: these are momentous milestones to be cherished and remembered for years to come.

10 Christening Gift Ideas

To mark such a joyous occasion, it’s customary to bring a gift for the child. We realize that purchasing something meaningful for a child too young to hold up its own head, let alone open its mouth to offer suggestions, can be a challenge. This is why we’ve put together the following list of christening gift ideas.

But before we begin, let us say that we’re especially fond of personalized gifts that the child can keep forever. Such gifts offer that extra sentimental value, something that can hold meaning for the child well into his or her life. And parents love them!

With that said and without further ado, our best christening gift ideas:

  1. A Bible with the child’s initials engraved.

This one stands at the top of the list for obvious reasons. As the child grows into a young adult and faith takes greater and greater importance, he or she will want a Bible to turn to. And how nice it is to have one with a history, one that came from the loving hand of a family member or family friend! In addition, Bible storybooks will be a good option for when they are a little older.10 Christening Gift Ideas

  1. Engraved bracelet or necklace.

Typically these gifts go to little girls, but these days there are many options for boys as well. Either way, a quality bracelet with a message inscribed on it or a necklace with an engraved pendant will be something the child can wear right away and then set aside as a keepsake for many more years.

  1. Framed message or scripture.

Write a brief, personalized message, and have it professionally printed and framed. Or pick out a favorite (and relevant) passage from scripture and have that framed.

  1. Custom burp cloths.

Let’s be honest, a new baby isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. They spit up. A lot. So, why not have some custom burp cloths made? They can offer funny or reassuring sayings that will make the baby’s parents smile while doing a thankless job.

  1. Name sign.

Have a custom-made sign with the baby’s name on it. The name can be written in colorful curlicues or in any other creative way you can think of. You can also have the name’s meaning written beneath the name itself.

  1. Personalized christening saucer.

Often made from ceramic and inscribed with the child’s name, date of christening, and a scripture, this gift offers something special that the child can hold onto forever.

  1. Christening cake.

Maybe nothing quite sounds right as a gift. How about going to your local specialty baker and having a beautiful cake made for the after party? Or, if you’re a talented baker yourself, you can bake and decorate the cake.

  1. Silver birth-certificate holder or money box.

As the most traditional material for christening gifts, silver always goes over well. Typically, these gifts will bear some inspirational message or scripture.

  1. Baptismal towel.

For drying off the baby after its baptism, you can have the towel stitched with the baby’s name, the date of the christening, and a scripture or personal message.

  1. Embroidered stuffed animal.

Buy him or her a stuffed lamb or teddy bear, and have it embroidered with a personalized message or scripture.

A baby’s christening is a joyous day, one to celebrate with friends and family. You’ll want to help celebrate with a gift, and here you have our ten best christening gift ideas for the new addition to your family or church family.

TinyLove 3-in-1 Rocker-Napper Evulation

With baby boy on his way in just a few weeks I’m really starting to gear up and get the things we need for him. However, adding another person and all his baby stuff in our already cramped house is starting to pose some problems. So whenever I can find something that has more than one purpose and will grow with him, I jump at it.

That’s why I was so excited to see the 3-in-1 Rocker-Napper from TinyLove. It’s a rocker, bassinet/napper and a versatile seat all in one. Set up was quite easy. It took me about 1/2 hour from start to finish. The directions come in almost every language and had diagrams and written instructions for every step. There is also a short video explaining how to assemble at on TinyLove’s website. The only thing you need is a phillips head screwdriver, 3 AAA batteries and 1 C battery. The Rocker/Napper adjusts very easily with one hand between all 3 seat position, which will be very helpfulwhen your holding a baby and trying to adjust the rocker in a different position before putting him down.

It also has a toy arm which has lights and toys attached and plays music and sounds to help soothe or entertain baby with adjustable volume. The rocker vibrates as well throughout the entire seat to help calm any fussy baby. However, it only has one setting on the vibrations. I think it would be nice to have at least 2 setting to be able to adjust the speed of vibrating. I think what I’m most excited about is having a nice comfy bassinet for the baby to sleep in and not taking up half the room that a traditional bassinet would do. I know he is definitely going to get a lot of use out of this rocker since he can use it until he’s up to 40 lbs. There will be a lot of rocking, napping and quick feedings once he starts sitting up in this very versatile rocker/napper/seat.

Tiny Love is giving a LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! reader their own 3-in-1 Rocker Napper ($100 value).  Visit Tiny Love and choose another product that you would love to have for a baby you know.

NUK Freshfoods Mash and Serve Bowl

baby food masher nukWith the baby coming in a few months, I’ve already started to think about once he starts eating table food. So when I got the opportunity to analyse NUK’s Freshfoods Mash and Serve Bowl, I jumped at the chance.

One of the things I’m really looking for in food preparation for the baby is something that both myself and the girls can do easily. I know that once we start feeding him regularly the girls are going to love to help. I first tried banana’s and blueberry’s which mashed up with ease. Then I had some steamed potatoes that the girls practiced mashing. It was extremely easy for Parker and Peyton and they had a blast doing it. It was great to get them involved and they wanted to mash everything in the house.

Clean up was a snap. The bowl rinsed out with no problems and even the mash washed up clean in no time. It’s also nice that the bowl is microwavable. I only wish it had a lid so that it would travel easily. It’s the perfect size to toss in a diaper bag but with no lid it’s not practical to take along. At home though it’s going to be great. The girls are really going to feel apart of taking care of the baby and I don’t have to worry about too many parts that they may hurt themselves on.

Our Unexpected Surprise!!!!

About 6 months ago my husband and I got some news that we really weren’t expecting at this point in our lives. We are the happy and proud parents of two very independent and self-sufficient girls, ages 10 and 8. We had fallen into this less demanding world which no longer revolved around taking care of the every little need of a child. It was nice to be able to come and go as we please without having to pack a car full of items for the girls.

At our ages, I’m 37 and my husband is 40, we believed that it was smooth sailing from this point out. We were just preparing ourselves for the craziness of the teenage years, even though they were still a few years off. But all that changed 6 months ago when I found out that we would be having another baby in September. At this point we couldn’t be happier and excited, but I will admit that it did take some time getting use to the idea of starting all over again. It didn’t make it any easier that with every doctors appointment they loved to point out that at 37 years old I am of “ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE”. I know I’m getting older, you don’t need to let me know every time. I can see it in the mirror every morning and I feel it every day with how tired I am. But thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Things seemed to brighten up once we found out that we would be adding a little boy to our already perfect family. Now it’s just trying to get the girls use to the idea of having a little one around. They definitely did not take it well at first. My oldest, Parker, has a crippling fear of vomit and in her eyes all a baby does is throw up. So it took some time and tears to calm her fears and once the baby is here she’ll will fall in love just as she did with her sister. My other daughter, Peyton, took it a lot better but was not happy at all when she found out it was a boy. She had all these grandiose ideas of playing with, dressing up and molding a little sister and a baby boy didn’t fit into her plan. We talked it over and once she realized that she still gets to be the baby girl in the family she started warming up to the idea. We also decided that she could still dress her brother up and we would take picture to show his future girlfriends. She loved that idea! At about 4 1/2 months we finally got over the initial shock of getting pregnant, even though we were not actively trying (and obviously not actively preventing them) and I started to realize how much there needs to be done before this baby gets here. This house is no longer baby friendly and there are so many things we now need to get which we didn’t think we would ever need again. All and all, this is truly a blessing and wouldn’t have happened any other way. And we couldn’t be happier!

Baby Gear for Growing Baby Giveaway

Mamas and Papas is Great Britain’s #1 Baby Brand. A couple months ago I had the pleasure of reviewing the luxury European Sola Stroller and now I’m sharing with you the Morph baby carrier and the Snug baby seats.

Our friends just recently had twins, 1 boy and 1 girl. While it’ll be some time before they can start using the Baby Snug seats I know they are going to get tons of use. The seats are ergonomically designed to comfortably hold baby in a safe position for eating, playing or just hanging out with mom or dad. There is a removable tray and everything is easy to clean. No hidden slots are compartments to store food or other sticky substances. The large crotch bar keeps baby from sliding out.

The Morph baby carrier was created based on the needs of moms and dads. Now parents can literally share the baby wearing responsibility. Each Morph includes a parent harness, a baby pod and a dribble bib to protect parents from messes. The system allows the harness to be worn with or without baby. When it’s time for the parent to carry baby the pod simply installs while keeping baby secure. The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable fit not just for baby but for the parent. One hand adjustable straps and color coded systems make the process simple and painless.

LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! has a Dove Grey Morph to giveaway to a lucky reader. Simply let us know if you are already a baby wearer or not and what color Morph is your favorite.

Boutique Clothes for Babies and Kids plus #giveaway

Spring is here and that means Shae gets to wear dresses, skirts and sandals again; she’s grown tired of sweaters and fleece. Her latest outfit from My Baby Clothes Boutique has ribbons and flowers and NO SLEEVES.

My Baby Clothes Boutique is an online shop for your little one’s entire wardrobe; baby hats and tutus all the way to boy’s suits and diaper bags. Shae’s Christmas dress and Easter outfit came from their great selection of dressy, ruffly, frilly and embellished toddler and baby clothes.

Their sizes run from infant to toddler; typically up to size 3. The few size 4 items that they do carry have been BIG hits with Shae. I wish there were more choices though, Shae might be tall but she’s still just 31/2 years old. The Mud Pie collection is my favorite but just not big enough for my big little girl.

A big shout out to their customer service too! I had sizing questions about an outfit and they were there to help with no problem at all!

Baby Wearing in Comfort and Style | Giveaway WSRW Blog Party

I love baby wearing. Even though I’m past that stage with our own kids I wear my niece when we go for walks around the neighborhood. She’s a walker but she’s also a wanderer so when she’s in the carrier I have no fears of her stepping into the street, in dog poo or picking trash up off the ground. Also I just love the closeness and cuddling we do. She grips my fingers and looks up at me like she’s just relaxing….I wish someone would carry me.  It’s a special time mom (and dad) can have with babies and toddlers.

The Boba is a soft structured baby carrier based on the traditional Mei Tai carriers from Asia with a modern buckle closure. Baby wearing is an old tradition, done on about every culture. The purpose is the same though, keep baby close and protected while nurturing a bond. The Boba has taken all of those classic elements like strength and stability and added modern touches for today’s parents and caregivers.

  • accommodates children 15-45 lbs
  • one size fits most adults
  • front and back carry
  • high density waist and shoulder strap foam
  • removable foot straps for extra leg/hip support
  • high back for better overall support
  • removable hood
  • chest strap for added support

I walked with my neice in the Boba and compared it to another Soft Structured carrier I have. The coverage was wider. I didn’t feel like she was hanging or peeking out. The padded waist band stayed in place, flat against my body. The chest strap gave me added support. I have a large chest and sometimes carriers didn’t sit well around my shoulders especially for back carries. This buckle fixed that. Right out of the box everything was stiff and the buckles were hard to open but I’m sure that had to do with the newness. A couple seams didn’t look perfect either; they looked stressed but not in places where they would compromise your child’s safety, a minor overlooked manufacturing detail.

Overall I’m impressed with the construction, support and style of the Boba. It will replace my previous recommendation for baby carriers.

Win a Boba Classic Collection carrier ($100 value) here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Boba and tell me your favorite color. Are you currently a baby wearer?

Baby Einstein introduces Discovery Kits plus giveaway

Baby Einstein, an award-winning leader of infant products, proudly adds three new products –Baby Lullaby, Neptune’s Oceans & World of Rhythm – to its line-up of recently unveiled Baby Einstein Discovery Kits on February 22, 2011. Baby Einstein Discovery Kits, which are specifically designed for babies up to two-years of age, help parents introduce babies to the beautiful worlds of classical music, nature and the arts through integrated multimedia kits.

As babies Shaun and Shae watched Baby Einstein videos (Baby Neptune was Shae’s favorite) and falling asleep to Baby Einstein CDs. The combination of colors, music and playful puppetry really engaged and entertain the kids. I didn’t feel guilty about letting the kids watching Baby Einstein because I knew they weren’t picking up bad habits, questionable words and behavior unfitting for public view.

Baby Einstein Discovery Kits (which are each packaged to include a Baby Einstein DVD, a music CD and either a book or Discovery Cards) are designed to help provide parents with new ways to introduce their little ones to the world around them in playful and engaging ways. The kits not only promote discovery and inspire baby’s natural curiosities but they also encourage parents to look to their everyday experiences as a way to extend content beyond just the kit.

In November, 2010, the Baby Einstein Company launched The Baby Einstein Rewards Program, a customer loyalty program created just for families and powered by Disney Movie Rewards. As part of this program, The Baby Einstein Company includes “Magic Codes” inside the packaging of every Discovery Kit for Baby Einstein Reward members to enter as part of their account and be able to earn and accrue reward points. Reward points can then later be redeemed for a variety of great products including strollers, baby bouncers, books, CDs, DVDs and more. The Baby Einstein Rewards Program is only valid for members who live in the U.S. and Canada and excludes Quebec.
In 2011, The Baby Einstein Company is expanding their rewards program to any newly released product from their full-breadth of product lines including baby toys, books, gear and CDs. Visit the Baby Einstein Rewards site for more information on this program.

Win a Baby Einstein Discovery Kit for a child in your life. Let me know which of the 3 new releases you would prefer to win.

I’m going to be honest and tell you I really like Old Navy and Melinda LOVES Old Navy.  We shop at Old Navy so much we now have an Old Navy credit card because we wanted to receive additional coupons plus a ton of other benefits that are only offered to card holders.  We shop at Old Navy for a few reasons like price, selection and quality.  Having three kids means we go clothes shopping often so I want to make sure I get great clothes for a great price that I can be sure are going to hold up to the everyday activities of my children.  Shaun tends to be rough on his clothes and over the years have found that clothes from Old Navy stand up to his abuse.

Another thing I love about Old Navy is there cute kids clothing.  I like to dress Shaun and Shae is cloths that are cute and cool and I find Old Navy has the best selection of clothing like this.  A lot of other stores we shop at don’t offer the selection of cute and cool that we are usually looking for.
