Sunday Linky Edition #248
Smack ‘N’ Cheese Pizza #recipe Revolutionary Pizza #giveaway
For the last 7 years Friday night has been Pizza & Movie Night in the Babiak Household. It started with ordering pizza to buying dough from a local pizzeria to then making dough from scratch. We’ve had many variations of pizza with many different ingredients. My favorite is on the grill with a simple sauce, mozzarella cheese and basil. My kids love it loaded with meat. Rob likes his pizza anyway he can get it.
I was asked to review a book that focuses on Pizza so you know I said yes. Revolutionary Pizza is based on the uber popular Chicago eatery, Dimo’s Pizza. With its cult-like following Dimo’s has been serving up unique and unforgettable combinations of ingredients to what they call “crustomers”.
I chose to recreate the Smack ‘N’ Cheese Pizza. I noticed the first 2 ingredients were peppers and figured this would be something Rob would fall in love with. What I wasn’t expecting was the kick in the guy heat that had me cursing in front of the kids.
I doctored up the recipe just a bit with more cheese to the topping, pureeing the pepper mix for 5 seconds and adding more cream and ended up with a tasty but super spicy twist on our pizza night. What I will make over and over and over again is their basic pizza dough. It was the best I’ve ever made. One would think after making my own dough for 5-6 years I’d have a good grasp on the process. That is a complete incorrect statement. I actually do not like my dough recipe. It’s good but not great, not even really good. Dimo’s recipe for dough is like hitting the motherload.
Rob ate his Smack ‘N’ Cheese Pizza by himself. All of it. He said it was a bit spicy but that’s how he likes it. He had a little numbness in the mouth as the end of dinner. I’m planning on making this again just with less heat. As you can see this calls for an entire jalapeno, I’ll leave this out next time and definitely add more cheese for a more gooey pizza. Here is the original for you to try.
Ingredients-ENOUGH DOUGH FOR 2 PIZZAS
SMACK SAUCE
- 1 large jalapeño, roasted, peeled and chopped
- 1 (13.5 oz [399 mL]) can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
- 2 cups/473 mL heavy cream
- ¼ cup/30 g shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup/20 g Parmesan cheese
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- 2 cups/230 g of cooked, drained and cooled macaroni elbow noodles
- ¼ cup/30 g shredded hot pepper cheese
Combine ingredients for the smack sauce in a saucepan and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, or until the sauce becomes smooth and the cheese melts completely. Toss with macaroni noodles.
If you’re making two pizzas, remember to split the ingredients equally for this part.
Use a spatula to spread the noodles and sauce mixture in an even layer across the dough. Grate the hot pepper cheese on top of the noodle mixture, evenly spread from the center of dough to the crust. Bake pizza in preheated oven at 500°F/260°C for 10–12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is completely melted. Let cool for about 5 minutes to allow cheese sauce to thicken up.
Looking through the recipes there are quite a few more that looked amazing like the Broccoli Bacon Masher, Burnhard, Rodeo Burger and Grilled Cheese w/ Tomatoes.
If you’re a food lover, not just pizza, this is a collection of recipes you would should have. Revolutionary Pizza is the best way to eat pizza for now on.

Father’s Day is time for #RealDadMoments + giveaway
I have this totally obnoxious video of Shae at age 2 running aroung the house shrieking “My Daddy My Daddy My Daddy My Daddy”. It’s something she would do then walk calmly over to Rob to give him a hug and a kiss. It’s a video I watch pretty often because it’s cute to see the love exchanged between the two of them. With Father’s Day coming up in a few short days I watching those videos, gathering up the pictures of Rob and the kids and remembering moments of the kids loving on him hard, #realdadmoments.
The media doesn’t seem to see dads this way. The commercials and horrible “talk shows” portray dads as deadbeats, disconnected from family life and fumbling through life with children. That isn’t the case in our home. Our family works, eats and lives together as a unit not pieces to a mixed-up puzzle.
In our family we have #RealDadMoments
Dove Men+Care is committed to portraying how real men care, the short film below spotlights the expanding and often unrecognized ways dads care for their children featuring #RealDadMoments between children and their fathers, most of which are regrettably absent from media depictions of dads today. Grab a tissue!
This short film is grounded in NEW research from Dove Men+Care, finding that three quarters of dads say they are responsible for their child’s emotional well-being, while only 20% of dads see this role reflected in media.
Dove Men+Care Dad Portrayal Research Study
- Three quarters of dads say they are responsible for their child’s emotional well-being, while only 20% of dads see this role reflected in media
- Only 13% of dads believe the media portrays fathers as responsible for childcare
- 3 out of 5 dads say the media portrays them negatively (61%)
Celebrate the dads in your life with sharing their #RealDadMoments on social media. Upload a picture or video to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Vine using #RealDadMoments to give dad he recognition he deserves.
Celebrate here with LookWhatMomFound..and Dad too! by entering to win a Dove Men+Care Gift Pack. Let me know who should be recognized in the #RealDadMoments campaign.
