I am a huge fan of Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Catch and the creators of those two shows did it again with another awesome showed called Black Gold.
truTV’s Black Gold is about the oil fields of West Texas where the men have 50 days to drill four back breaking holes. I watched the first two episodes today and let me tell you that job is not for many. At most new jobs you are giving some form of direction or training but not on an oil rig. New guys to the oil rigs are called Worms and the only on the job training they get it when the other guys on the rig yell at them about what they aren’t doing or what they did wrong. The Worm on the show is always asking the other guys how he is performing. On the rig you are not given an employee review like most places. Your review comes in the form of being made fun of and criticism when told to complete tasks on the rig.
Black Gold is Real TV at its finest. It shows how important it is to work together to stay safe so that you can get the job completed. The show has a lot of humor but a lot a lot of serious aspects showing it is important that every man do their part in order to be able meet their four holes in 50 day deadline. Black Gold airs every Wednesday at 10 pm on truTV. If you think you can handle working in the oil field in Texas check out the truTV’s Black Gold trailer and truTV’s Black Gold drilling video and you will realize it takes a real rough neck to get the job done.
