I was reading the March 8th edition of Time magazine on the bus today and saw an article about a website called ChatRoulette.
ChatRoulette is a service where you anonymously chat with total strangers. The site randomly connects you with more than 10,000 users and if you are bored with what you are seeing all you have to do is click next and move on to the next anonymous person. The article went on to say that ChatRoulette allows you to chat with people you might not have ever chatted with otherwise. There is probably a reason for that I have to assume. LOL. The article also said the site is overrun with horny and naked people which makes it unsafe for kids and work. ChatRoulette has a disclaimer that the site is meant for users over the age of 16. ChatRoulette was created by a Moscow teenager back in November 09.
This is a screenshot I found on Google of a conversation that took place on ChatRoulette. Kind of funny but disturbing all at the same time.
Are people so bored and lonely that they need to randomly be connected with someone that they don’t even know to chat? What happened to friends or family? LOL. This whole ChatRoulette concept seems so odd to me but maybe it is normal and I am the odd one.
What is your take on this?
