10 Sci-Fi Movies on Hulu That Will Blow Your Mind

You will love this list if you’re a fan of sci-fi movies or TV. It’s not just any list—it’s my favorite list of all time! There are so many great sci-fi movies and TV shows to choose from. I could have written a longer article on the subject if I had more room in my schedule. So instead of choosing just one title to write about, I’ve decided to make it into a top ten list—and that way, we can have more fun thinking about which ones we like!

The Host

The Host is a movie about an alien parasite that takes over the minds of humans. The protagonist is an alien named Melanie, whom this creature has infected, and she fights to regain control of her body. It’s based on the same-named book by Stephenie Meyer, which was turned into a movie in 2006 by director Andrew Niccol.

Possessor

The Possessor is a Japanese horror film from 1981, directed by Toshio Masuda. The film stars Nobuko Miyamoto and Takayuki Yamada as two sisters living in a small town who becomes possessed by an evil spirit after their grandmother passes away. This movie was based on a novel by Kazuo Umezu and adapted into two other films: Possessor: Curse of the Demon (1981) and Possession III: Dark Delusion (1991).

Under the Skin

Under the Skin is a must-watch if you’re into psychological thrillers and aliens. Scarlett Johansson plays an alien who gets men to fall in love with her so she can kill them before they find out who she is. The film is set in Scotland and was filmed there, so if your favorite sci-fi movies are set in places other than New York City or Los Angeles (I’m looking at you, Blade Runner), this one might be for you!

Prey

Prey is an American science fiction movie with Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Sarah Paulson, and Jared Leto in the main roles. Daniel Espinosa directed it. The movie follows a group of people on a space station that alien life forms have invaded. The creatures take the form of humans’ worst fears and then feed off them until no more victims are left alive to survive.

The film was released in theaters on October 4th, 2018 but can now be watched for free on Hulu! Although Hulu is restricted outside the US, it is super easy to access Hulu in restricted countries like Hulu in Italy, Hulu in Australia, or Hulu in the UK by just connecting to a VPN.

Melancholia

This Danish drama is the directorial debut of Lars Von Trier and stars Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg as two sisters who live in Copenhagen. When a strange cloud appears in the sky, it triggers an existential crisis for both of them. Critics liked the movie when it came out, but its popularity has dropped since then. Rotten Tomatoes currently has an 83% rating.

The story follows Claire (Dunst), who considers suicide after seeing her partner’s baby die during childbirth; her sister Justine (Gainsbourg) tries to reassure her that there is no reason to despair or give up hope on humanity as we know it—but what if there was? Melancholia explores some dark topics: depression and loss of faith in people around us—but also how our minds can be affected by such things without us even knowing why we feel so bad about ourselves or others around us.

Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer is a 2014 South Korean-French science fiction film directed by Bong Joon-ho and written by Bong and Kelly Masterson. It is based on Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette’s French graphic novel “Le Transperceneige.” The film stars Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer, Song Kang-ho, Tilda Swinton, and John Hurt in his final role before he died in 2016. The movie was released in theaters on July 1st, 2015, but now it’s available to stream on Hulu with English subtitles! If you want more of this type of thing, then make sure you check out these other great sci-fi movies:

A Scanner Darkly

A Scanner Darkly is based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, who also wrote Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (the basis for Blade Runner), and directed by Richard Linklater. The film stars Keanu Reeves as Bob Arctor, a beat cop in a future where drug use has become rampant and society has collapsed into chaos. Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, Winona Ryder, and Rory Cochrane play some of his closest friends trying to get him out of trouble before he ends up in jail or worse—. If that wasn’t enough to make this film stand out from others like it (like Escape from New York), there’s also an awesome cameo from Mike Judge at one point.

Inception

Inception was released in 2010 and is about a team of thieves who steal ideas from people’s minds. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It was directed by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy). Inception is full of mind-bending twists that will have you questioning everything you know about reality by the end of it!

Apocalypse Now

Apocalypse Now is a 1979 American epic war film directed, produced, and co-written by Francis Ford Coppola. It stars Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Martin Sheen, Frederic Forrest, Albert Hall, Sam Bottoms, and Dennis Hopper. The title refers to the final book of John Milton’s Paradise Lost (1667). John Milius wrote the screenplay with character names drawn from Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness (1899) and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World (1932). It has been described as “a classic” by Roger Ebert, who gave it four out of four stars in his review for the Chicago Sun-Times.

The plot follows a cyborg assassin who finds himself stranded on Earth after being sent back from an alternate future where Skynet Industries had sent him to kill John Connor and his mother before they could give birth to him at age nine or ten so that they wouldn’t become leaders of mankind, but instead ends up falling in love with them!
