How do you keep it romantic in the financial situation we are all in? Who can afford an expensive restaurant or tickets to a Broadway show? Here are some ideas to keep your quality time fun and romantic without taking out a second mortgage.
Classic Movie Date turned Morning Coffee & a Movie
Our local theater offers $6 movies Friday-Sunday for shows before noon. So while it may be kind of early for popcorn and soda it’s a perfect time for a Starbucks run. To save the extra bucks bring your own brewed coffee from home. Our theater doesn’t seem to care when we bring in coffee and Danish.
Surf & Turf turned Dessert at Diner
This is one we utilize quite often. I’m lucky enough to have a teenager who can stay home with the other 2 so the hubby and I can sneak away for a few minutes of peace. We run down to the diner, sit at the counter and enjoy the coffee and a couple of desserts. To make it especially romantic, share a dessert and feed each other. We don’t do this because we would never agree on dessert; we also don’t like to share.
Arena Concert turned Club Band Show
Have you seen the cost of concert tickets lately, it’s outrageous. Check your neighborhood’s online nightlife source CitySearch / CityGuide / Metromix) to find bars or clubs in your area that have live music. Usually with a small cover charge and the cost of a couple drinks you have yourself an awesome deafening night out.
Season Ticket Holder turned Alumni Supporter
Do you still live near your alumni high school or college, show some support and show up for Friday night lights. Wear the school colors, buy a hot dog and hot chocolate from the student vendors and cheer out loud. If you aren’t close to home just choose the school that has the best mascot and support the local kids anyway!
With a little imagination and some research anything can be minimized in price without sacrificing on quality. Visit your local museum’s website for free admission days, check community calendars for upcoming carnivals, read the newspaper entertainment section for area productions of popular plays or musicals. The romance doesn’t have to die just because the price of roses has tripled, be creative and do something together.
