Got Flowers? I do! Pretty ones too. No, don’t go over to Rob’s site and say “good job” or “whatcha do wrong”, they weren’t from him.
These came from California Cut Flower Commission. They represent cut flowers and foliage growers in California, from San Diego all the way north to the Oregon border. The CCFC has the unique job of helping these growers thrive among huge percentage of imported flowers. Not only does the CCFC want these growers to thrive they want to make sure the products are fresh and superior quality.
Did you know that only 25% of the flowers sold in the United States came from California but California grows 75% of the cut flowers? Shouldn’t all those weddings and showers and memorials and just because moments be benefiting our own economy? California’s cut flower industry is responsible for over 121K jobs and $3.3 billion in wages. If we increase our consumption of California flowers than that makes a positive impact on OUR economy, that’s a good thing.
One way the CCFC is trying to boost the awareness of buying California Grown is coming up with “Hint Cards”. Hint cards are business card size that help incorporate a little romance and whimsy into our lives. It gives a little hint to that loved one that you want some flowers sometimes, just because. Studies found 42% of women DO NOT receive flowers as often as they would like. Rob used to be really good about this many years ago but it’s tapered off over the years. He needs a reminder once in a while and these are going to be perfect for that. The Hint Cards come as a set, each with a cute phrase such as “I dare you to buy me flowers” or “Flowers Make a Girl Happy”. The CCFC is hoping the introduction of this tool will get us women the flowers we deserve as well as make us aware of what is available in our own backyard.
Next time you order a bouquet for someone you love, insist on California grown flowers and foliage. Don’t forget to pick up your own Hint Cards while you’re at it to ensure you get the flowers you deserve.
What to win your own bouquet of beautiful fresh cut flowers or a set of Hint Cards? The California Cut Flower Commission is giving away 25 sets of Hint Cards and a bouquet of flowers to my readers. Plus, you will be given the opportunity to win a grand prize of one free California-grown bouquet every month for one year if they participate in this online survey! http://www.surveygizmo.com/s/134525/ccfc-hint-card-survey
