We’ve mentioned before that we are a book loving family. All the kids have huge libraries of their own filled with classics, trendy favorites and sentimental stories from my childhood.
Monkey and the Engineer is a story that was recently introduced to me for review. Its story comes from a folk classic about a train engineer’s monkey who takes command of the locomotive. The engineer originally is panicked but little did he know the monkey paid attention and knew how to operate the train. What the monkey didn’t know was there was another train on the tracks heading northbound. The story does not end in disaster, an accident is avoided. The interactions are silly and illustrations are rich and colorful. I enjoyed that the story comes right from the original song which itself is fun and toe-tapping. Shae is the dancer of the family and she has grown to love the song with is available at MonkeyandtheEngineer.com.
If you’re looking for a special gift for a child, books are always the answer. Monkey and the Engineer is going on my must-have list along with Where the Wild Things Are, A Color of His Own and Love You Forever.
Purchase Monkey and the Engineer for the holidays, make a child or adult smile with this whimsical story or bring back memories from those listening to the Grateful Dead’s version in the 80’s.
