Tonight Shaun participated in his first pinewood derby held by his Cub Scout troop. For those of you not familiar with pinewood derbies here is a definition of what it is. The pinewood derby is a racing event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. Cub Scouts, with the help of parents, build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles.
In the first heat Shaun finished first on all four runs. They run each car in all four lanes and use time to determine who moves on to the next round.
Shaun’s car is the red one all by itself
They then pick the fastest eights cars from round one and race them against each other. In the second round Shaun finished second overall and is moving to the District race in April. I am so proud of Shaun. This is his as well as my first pinewood derby race but I feel like it went really well. On a side not I was anxious and my nerves were shot the whole time because I am that dad. LOL.
The red car in the lead is Shaun’s
Hopefully at the District race we have good results also but whatever happens this is better then I expected.
