Protect the skin you’re in with UVSkinz giveaway – CLOSED

Summer is in full swing and we are at the pool constantly. I feel good this year that my kids are protected with sun protection swimwear. UVSkinz is one of our favorites; with swimwear, hats and clothing with a UPF rating of 50+ which blocks out over 98% of the sun’s harmful rays. It’s loose fit allows for ease of movement and the lightweight material is quick-drying and won’t fade with regular use.

According to SkinCancer.org, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 3.5 million cases in two million people are diagnosed annually. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. My mother developed a basal cell carcinoma a few years ago and while it was removed successfully it was still a scare. These days she is so much more careful in the sun, mostly trying to stay out of it actually.

I try to also be very careful in the sun with sunscreen and hats but my focus is the kids. I slather sunscreen on their faces, make them wear hats and outfit them in sun protection swimwear. Shae has been sporting her Pink Argyle long sleeve swimshirt all summer, especially when we hit the pool in the middle of the day. Its lightweight material is cool in the warm weather but has been protecting her arms, body and neck perfectly.

UVSkinz’s foundation is built around the memory of Darren Lee Farwell, husband of owner Rhonda. Darren was taken away way too soon after a long battle with malignant melanoma. His life was active and full and focused on friends, family and fun. In the end all that fun in the sun caused him the worst harm. Rhonda took that pain and turned it into education and research for UVSkinz. The Darren Lee Farwell Foundation was created to raise awareness of not just the causes of skin cancer but the prevention and cure rate if caught early. While UVSkinz is still a young company it’s heart and soul is strong and determined to keeps all kids safe.

Win your own children’s product by visiting UVSkinz and letting us know which item you would like.

Shop with $100 at ATGStores.com Giveaway – CLOSED

Summer is in full swing and Rob, the kids and I are taking full advantage. We swim at the pool, we play at the park, we plant in the garden and we hang on the deck. Our deck gets FULL sun till mid afternoon so we knew we needed a nice big umbrella. ATG gave us the Decorative Vented Market Umbrella and it’s a perfect fit for our deck and personal style.

I was worried about the crank style operation; I thought it wouldn’t feel sturdy enough. I was wrong; the mechanics feel strong and I don’t feel like I’m going to break off the handle when I’m opening the umbrella. The umbrella itself is large; large enough to completely cover 2-4 people depending on the sun’s movement. I’ve been filling an inflatable pool in the deck and the umbrella allows the kids to play without the sun beating down on their little heads the whole time. We use the umbrella freestanding as we don’t have traditional dining style table and chairs. The umbrella is in a stand and it gets moved around the deck to cover the pool, group of chairs or whatever needs shielding from the sun.  It also tilts as you can see from the picture above, love this feature.

ATG Stores is so much more about umbrellas. With over 400 online stores and FREE SHIPPING you can furnish any and every room in your house with just a few clicks to site like HomeFurnitureShowroom.com, NewBabySupply.com and CookingandTableware.com just to name a few.

Visit ATGStores.comand find that perfect something to win here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Find 1 product with a maximum value of $100 and leave the link to your choice in your comment.

Iced Coffee with Seattle’s Best Toddy-CLOSED

A hot steamy, slightly sweet cup of coffee; this is what I reach for each morning. Rob on the other hand prefers a huge, icy cold coffee instead. Seattle’s Best Coffee Toddy home brewing system now let’s Rob make his own iced coffee at home instead of paying more than $3 a piece at the coffee shops.

Iced Coffee seems like a simple thing; just add ice to hot coffee and go. This isn’t the case. For a good iced coffee the coffee itself needs to be stronger and with great flavor. Seattle’s Best Coffee Toddy Home Brewing System explains that cold brewing is best.

The Seattle’s Best Coffee cold brewed coffee concentrate, a concentrate coffee extract produced by using a special cold brewing process, is the key ingredient in Seattle’s Best Coffee’s summer lineup. The cold brewing process extracts the flavors of coffee and leaves behind undesirable acids and oils, resulting in a bold, slightly sweet, smooth-tasting coffee with more than 50 percent less acidity than conventional brewing methods

The process while not complicated is long; overnight to be exact. In a nutshell you are soaking the coffee (or tea) in cool water for HOURS to establish a more intense flavor that can then be mixed with water or cream or even ice cream. Get yours today; there is still plenty of summer left.  Here is your chance to win one from LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too!  Visit Seattle’s Best Toddy store and tell me what else you would need to complete the iced coffee (or tea) experience.

Mother’s Jewelry with a Twist from Gemvara Evulation

My sister and sister-in-law became first time moms last year (11 days apart) so when Gemvara approached me about reviewing a custom Letter Pendant I knew it would be a perfect gift for my sister. You see I’ve been a mom for many years, I received my fair share of mother’s rings, gemstone pendants, macaroni necklaces and more. I thought the Letter Pendant would be a timeless but unique piece of mother’s jewelry for my sister.

My sister and BIL are done having kids, Madi is their first and will be their last so I knew getting an “M” initial would be something cherished forever. This necklace and pendant gift serves a dual purpose for Kim actually; obviously the “M” stands for Madi but it also stands for Matt, her husband who baby Madison is named after.

I got to choose from 16 gemstones, 8 metals and 4 chain styles. This made for endless combinations, perfect for any situation, personal style and budget.  For my sister I choose a silver pendant and chain with a “diamond” accent (her birthstone).  I opened the gift box and was greeted by a beautifully bright and lovely piece, I knew my sister was going to love it. The necklace and pendant came beautifully wrapped a couple weeks after deciding on the design. This is because is pendant is custom made to the buyers request.

Designer Ji Hwang designs jewelry with a fluid graceful line, like strokes of a painter’s brush. Her pieces are often inspired by the natural world, abstracted into modern sculpture. Her work reveals nature’s subtle aesthetic, capturing the beauty of its form, the simplicity of its design, and the vitality of its colors without embellishment. She often finds that by simplifying, she often can best reflect the essence of nature. A classically trained jewelry artist educated at Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institute in New York City, Ji’s work is instantly recognizable to jewelry connoisseurs.

Gemvara is about more than mother’s  jewelry and letter pendants.  With a wealth of talented designers contributing to the online shop Gemvara offers it’s buyer the chance to customize almost everything to suit your needs and wants.

Gemvara jewelry is made to order just for you:

  • We hand-select high-quality conflict-free natural gems to perfectly fit your design.
  • A 3D model is created in wax and used to mold the setting.
  • We use recycled or responsibly mined precious metals to cast your jewelry.
  • The piece is meticulously finished and polished by hand.
  • Your stones are carefully set into place by a skilled craftsperson.
  • We quality-check every detail to make sure it meets our high standards.
  • Your one-of-a-kind piece is delivered in three weeks in a beautiful box.
  • 30-day hassle-free return policy (even though our delighted customers don’t need it.)
  • Exceptional personal service and shopping advice: 800-436-8803.
  • When people ask about your beautiful jewelry, be sure to tell them you designed it yourself!

Gemvara is offering LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers the chance to win their own sterling silver Letter Pendant (no gemstone). Visit Gemvara and let me know what other jewelry pieces you would love to own.

Hayneedle.com Recap and Giveaway-CLOSED

As everyone has to know by now we are finally moved and settled into our new place in Delaware. When Melinda and I were looking at places in Delaware the place we are living now really stood out because of a few things but one of the main features was the huge deck. Melinda and I discussed what we could get to make our deck a place where we would hang out often with the kids, family and friends. We had a bistro set but needed two additional chairs and another table to make the deck complete and Hayneedle had the perfect set of Adirondack chairs.

The good thing is Melinda and I decided in advance that we wanted a nice set of Adirondack chairs. So we went to Hayneedle and clicked on the Adirondack chairs link under patio and garden and we were taken to adirondackchairs.com. That is where were given a huge selection to choose from like painted wood, recycled plastic , cedar, teak and many more. After some searching we both agreed on the Big Daddy Reclining Adirondack Chair set with free side table. If you notice these chairs and I have something in common. I will give you a moment to figure it out. Has it come to you yet? If not I will give you the answer, me and the chairs are both called Big Daddy. This kind of made the decision easy for me. Who doesn’t like chairs that share the same name as them?

The chairs are a really nice kiln dried Asian fir with a weather resistant natural finish with an attached retractable ottoman. They came unassembled but it took only about hour total to put both of them together. The step by step directions were easy to follow and very detailed. The side table came already assembled so that setup in seconds. We are really enjoying our chairs so far and they are super comfortable to sit in especially with the ottoman out.

The journey began in 2002 as Netshops when Founders Doug Nielson, Mark Hasebroock and Julie Mahloch acquired Hammocks.com and saw potential to launch more sites each focusing on a certain product category. In August 2009 the name was changed to Hayneedle and a new easy to navigate website was unveiled. Hayneedle consists of 220 stores and counting each devoted to a single product category like dartboards.com and hammocks.com just to name a few.

Hayneedle.com is your one stop shop with so many stores and items to choose from you are bound to find what you are looking for.
Hayneedle is giving on lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader one item of their choice worth up to $200. All you have to do is go to Hayneedle and tell me what three stores you like the most.

WHIPLASH™ Scooter for Summer Fun Recap

We’ve worked with Street Surfing in the past so we knew to expect top-notch, quality gear. This summer we got the chance to analyse the crazy popular Whiplash scooter. The Whiplash™ is a self-propelling, revolutionary new ride. It is part scooter, part Wave board (caster board) and totally fun. The Whiplash Scooter’s flexing deck and handlebar fuse together to provide riders with a cool, side to side, whip-like ride. Riders can self-propel the scooter so that their feet never touch the ground or ride it like a a traditional scooter.

I was so proud of Shaun. Rob and I were very concerned about letting Shaun ride the Whiplash. He easily gets discouraged if he doesn’t succeed as something right away. We truly expected his to lose his balance and give up saying riding it was too hard. You can see how WRONG we were. He rides it all the time and all the kids in the neighborhood (old and new) are constantly asking for a chance to try it out.

The Whiplash Scooter is a must buy for kids this summer. Shop at local retailers or online for your own Whiplash (retail value $80), replacement wheels and most importantly helmets. Remember no matter the age of the rider, stay safe.

Win your own Whiplash scooter from LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Street Surfing or Whiplash Scooter and tell me who you want to win this for.

(this is Shae’s favorite part)

“In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden deep beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by an army of tireless, little yellow minions, we discover Gru (Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon (Yes, the moon!).
Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad.
One of the world’s greatest super-villains has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.”

I’m not sure what I was expecting when we arrived at the Owings Mills AMC Theater on Saturday morning.  I had watched the trailers and read the synopsis but still was curious what the movie was about and what the Minions had to do with the story.  I’m guessing that is the whole point, keep the audience guessing.
The theater was PACKED, literally not an empty seat to be found. We settled in with our 3D glasses (which took me about 20 minutes to get used to) and prepared for an entertaining flick.  That is was!  The script was written with kids in mind using words like poop and butt; but of course like any good kids movie there were little things that kept the humor alive with the adults.  The story ends with a simple but touching moment that of course brought a tear to my eye.
