Summer is in full swing and we are at the pool constantly. I feel good this year that my kids are protected with sun protection swimwear. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. My mother developed a basal cell carcinoma a few years ago and while it was removed successfully it was still a scare. These days she is so much more careful in the sun, mostly trying to stay out of it actually.

I try to also be very careful in the sun with sunscreen and hats but my focus is the kids. I slather sunscreen on their faces, make them wear hats and outfit them in sun protection swimwear. Shae has been sporting her Pink Argyle long sleeve swimshirt all summer, especially when we hit the pool in the middle of the day. Its lightweight material is cool in the warm weather but has been protecting her arms, body and neck perfectly.

UVSkinz’s foundation is built around the memory of Darren Lee Farwell, husband of owner Rhonda. Darren was taken away way too soon after a long battle with malignant melanoma. His life was active and full and focused on friends, family and fun. In the end all that fun in the sun caused him the worst harm. Summer is in full swing and Rob, the kids and I are taking full advantage. We swim at the pool, we play at the park, we plant in the garden and we hang on the deck. Hayneedle.com Review and Giveaway-CLOSED

As everyone has to know by now we are finally moved and settled into our new place in Delaware. When Melinda and I were looking at places in Delaware the place we are living now really stood out because of a few things but one of the main features was the huge deck. Melinda and I discussed what we could get to make our deck a place where we would hang out often with the kids, family and friends. We had a bistro set but needed two additional chairs and another table to make the deck complete and Hayneedle had the perfect set of Adirondack chairs.

The good thing is Melinda and I decided in advance that we wanted a nice set of Adirondack chairs. So we went to Hayneedle and clicked on the Adirondack chairs link under patio and garden and we were taken to adirondackchairs.com. That is where were given a huge selection to choose from like painted wood, recycled plastic , cedar, teak and many more. After some searching we both agreed on the Big Daddy Reclining Adirondack Chair set with free side table. If you notice these chairs and I have something in common. I will give you a moment to figure it out. Has it come to you yet? If not I will give you the answer, me and the chairs are both called Big Daddy. This kind of made the decision easy for me. Who doesn’t like chairs that share the same name as them?

The chairs are a really nice kiln dried Asian fir with a weather resistant natural finish with an attached retractable ottoman. They came unassembled but it took only about hour total to put both of them together. The step by step directions were easy to follow and very detailed. The side table came already assembled so that setup in seconds. We are really enjoying our chairs so far and they are super comfortable to sit in especially with the ottoman out.

We’ve worked with Street Surfing in the past so we knew to expect top-notch, quality gear. This summer we got the chance to review the crazy popular Whiplash scooter. The Whiplash™ is a self-propelling, revolutionary new ride. It is part scooter, part Wave board (caster board) and totally fun. The Whiplash Scooter’s flexing deck and handlebar fuse together to provide riders with a cool, side to side, whip-like ride. Riders can self-propel the scooter so that their feet never touch the ground or ride it like a a traditional scooter.

I was so proud of Shaun. Rob and I were very concerned about letting Shaun ride the Whiplash. He easily gets discouraged if he doesn’t succeed as something right away. We truly expected his to lose his balance and give up saying riding it was too hard. You can see how WRONG we were. He rides it all the time and all the kids in the neighborhood (old and new) are constantly asking for a chance to try it out.
