Sesame Street-All Time Favorite

I remember watching Sesame Street when I was little. I remember Mr. Hooper and his store and I remember when no one believed Big Bird that Mr. Snuffleupagus was real. These days while some of the original characters have evolved and there have been a ton added its still brings back a warm and comforting feeling.

Sesame Street revolutionized the concept of television being an educational tool. With its use of bright animation, live-action and videos, simple concepts and humor it attracts an audience of all ages. The alphabet being sung Patti Labelle is one of Shae’s favorite segments. It gets her dancing and yelling her toddler version of the alphabet. The show utilizes feet-moving music and song, compassion and diversity to teach simple arithmetic, shape recognition and a plethora of life lessons without it feeling like learning. The producers seem to know how to grasp a child’s natural need for interaction.

Sesame Street is also one of the most watched programs on television and obviously one of the longest running. All 3 of my children have LOVED Sesame Street. I have an Elmo in this house from each of them and now my youngest has taken possession of all of them. Having a toddler in the house has forced my teenager to watch again and as this age she can capture some of the humor that slipped by her as a preschooler. The list of celebrities who have appeared on this show is astounding; it seriously has to be in close competition to Letterman or Leno. Who else in one hour can produce Madelyn Kahn singing with Grover and Anderson Cooper reporting on the letter G in a trashcan?

While the past few years it seems the content is slipping in terms of quality as well as newness it will still be a must have in our house.

My absolute favorite character is Super Grover.
