Today I Feel Silly book review

Do you have a kid who doesn’t know how to express their feelings? My Shaun tends to use tears for everything from fear to frustration to anger to embarrassment. While I try to be understanding of his expression I really want him to find different outlets for those feelings.

Today I Feel Silly: And Other Moods That Make My Day by Jamie Lee Curtis is a great tool to help children to recognize the different emotions that can go running through their bodies on any given day.

Here is an excerpt from the little girl in the book talks about the day she was lonely

Today I am lonely, I feel so small
My Auntie’s away, I wish that she’d call
My Mom’s working lat and my dad has the flu.
And although I’ve got stuff I’ve got nothing to do.

You know every kid has felt this way; even adults experience loneliness and boredom sometimes. This book spans 13 different moods. There is no doubt your child is going to connect to a couple of them and this is the best way to let him know its ok to feel certain emotions. Visit your library or bookstore and read this with your child, whether or not they are super emotional it’s a fun read with vibrant illustrations and hysterical writing.
