You know I’m always on the hunt for new snacks and treats for the kids. Lately they seem to be asking for ice cream all the time. Our pool snackbar has ice cream so it happens more often that it’s becoming an afternoon snack versus a once in a while treat. I wanted to find a better way to indulge that sweet ice cold feeling without all the guilt. Frozen Banana Pops happened.
We set out in the kitchen with 3 bananas and a wide array of toppings and “glue” ideas. This turned out to be one of the messiest kitchen adventures yet. It was also one of the tastiest the kids said.
I scoured the cabinets and pantry for topping ideas. Candy and nuts were the most obvious. Then came the glue. You need an ingredient that will hold the toppings onto the banana.
Ingredients
Bananas
toppings (chopped toffee, mini chips, sprinkles, chopped nuts, coconut, sugar crystals, chopped dried fruit, granola)
candy melts
yogurt
peanut butter or other nut butter
nutella
popsicle sticks, parchment paper
Directions
Peel and slice your bananas into 3 pieces.
Slide a popsicle into each piece.
Place into freezer on a piece of parchment or waxed paper for 30 minutes.
When bananas are frozen have children dip them or coat them in their preferred topping. Peanut Butter is difficult, warming it would be beneficial.
Immediately coat them in their desired toppings and set them down again on the paper and freeze for another 30 minutes.
Enjoy!
