2010 Ford Taurus Test Drive Opportunity

Last week we received the 2010 Ford Taurus SEL for review from Ford Motor Company to be Ford Bloggers. We are Ford lovers to begin with and in the past we owned a 2002 Ford Taurus but traded it in for a Ford Freestar minivan because we needed the space. We loved our Taurus but we also love our Ford minivan.
I was sad a few years ago when Ford announced they were no longer going to be producing the Taurus because I felt it was a great family car and it had a five star crash rating and to me that is the most important feature of any car. After a few years they came back with the redesigned Taurus and left me tell you they didn’t disappoint. When I can home the first day the car was delivered to my house I was wowed. It looked sharp with a very sleek and sporty look. The interior was totally redesigned with the driver in mind. When sitting in the driver’s seat I felt like I was in the cockpit of a airplane. All of the controls are within reach which makes for a very comfortable trip.

The Taurus I had for review had leather interior with duel front heated seats, cruise control, Microsoft Sync, Sirius Radio, rear backup camera and the list goes on and on. Check out my video below and our hashtag on Twitter #fordtestdrive for a firsthand look at the vehicle that we got to test drive for the week.

If you are in the market for a new vehicle that you will be excited to drive everyday check out Ford and give the Taurus a drive. You will be happy you did and you will never look back.

Can You Believe I Survived

As I am writing this post Melinda is on her flight from LA back to Baltimore, MD. From what she told me and from what I saw on Twitter the Conagra Fight Child Hunger campaign went well. Melinda was busy from the time she stepped off of the airplane and is extremely exhausted but it was for a good cause so I know she would say the trip was well worth it.

I survived with the kids. LOL. I knew I would survive but I was nervous about how Shae would be without her mommy. Shae did pretty well even though she asked for mommy 100 times. She was well behaved and we had a great time together. Bedtime was a little bit of a battle the first night at my in-laws but after we arrived home in MD the next two nights went pretty smooth. All in all everything went really well with no problems but I am very glad Melinda will be home soon. I will probably be asleep when she arrives home since her flight doesn’t get into Baltimore until 11:30pm but I will be happy to see her when I wake up in the morning.

Me And The Kids All Alone

Melinda will be leaving Tuesday for LA for the Conagra Child Ends Hunger Here campaign. In order for Melinda to be away for two days I need to step in which means I will be with the kids ALONE. Well, not 100% alone because Melinda will be dropping the kids off in Delaware at my in-laws which is where I stay during the week.

This is going to be Shae’s second time without Melinda. What makes this so difficult is Shae always wants Melinda to put her to bed and wants nothing to do with me. Shae loves to do everything else with me but bedtime is not one of them. This is reserved for Melinda only. Sabreena is no problem but Shaun and Shae on the other hand can be a hand full.

I hope I will be ok and that the kids don’t take advantage of me and I am praying bed time with Shae will not be a disaster.  I am sure I will be fine but I typically depend on Melinda’s help ALOT!!!

Join ConAgra Foods to Fight Child Hunger & Basket Giveaway-CLOSED

Hopefully you are all aware that I’ve been working with ConAgra Foods on their Child Hunger Ends Here campaign. The focus of the campaign is to of course raise money for Feeding America but more importantly to raise awareness of the growing problem that is plaguing our nation: our children are hungry. My goal for this campaign is to bring the community together in a couple ways. Here are my ideas that are in the works.

  • Ask local movie theater to donate proceeds of 1 movie showing to Feeding America
  • A penny drive at the local elementary school
  • A car wash at the local middle school
  • Host a table at flea market where all sale proceeds will be donated

This campaign doesn’t start and end just with the blogger participants. Anyone can host their own neighborhood rally or get together. Host a dinner party and let your friends know that for each participating ConAgra Foods product you purchased for that meal $1 was donated to FeedingAmerica.org. You can also simply host a bake sale or flower bulb sale or food drive at your local church or community center. ConAgra Foods will even help you promote your activity with a toolkit. Register your rally and ConAgra will send you the tools along with tips and ideas to make it a success. Remember, whatever you can do will make a difference.
Next week I will be heading to Los Angeles, California for a phenomenal event hosted by ConAgra Foods where all the blogger participants and I will be visiting a local Food Bank and visiting the set of Desperate Housewives. Dana Delaney is the spokesperson for Child Hunger Ends Here and Wisteria Lane is the backdrop for the opening neighborhood rally. I will bring back tons of pics and details about the event and I hope to hear back from you all about what you can do in your own neighborhoods.

ConAgra Foods wants you to share this information with your friends, family, neighbors, community, teachers, clergy, business owners and everyone else you see. Host an event/rally/dinner/sale of your own by April 28th and you can enter to win a fabulous gift basket filled with goodies, coupons, Desperate Housewives season 4 and much more.  Leave me a comment and tell me all about your event.

2010 Ford Taurus – Awesome Car!

Today the 2010 Blue Steel Ford Taurus we are reviewing was delivered to the house and let me tell you I was very excited.  As soon as I got home from work the first thing I wanted to do was take the car for a test drive but we needed to eat dinner first.  After dinner we hopped in the Taurus and headed to Cold Stone for some ice cream.

Today we are heading to Washington, D.C to attend the Smithsonian 44th annual Kite Festival and will get to really test drive the car.  We are really excited to see how it treats us on our trip but from I can see so far it should do just fine.

Ford’s are not new to us as we are already Ford lovers.  We own a 05 Freestar and have owned a Taurus in the past.  I would love to get rid of my 07 Chevy HHR and replace it with the Taurus I am driving right now.

We will be doing more posts about the car and our adventures we take in it.

Stay tuned.

Growing Up Hungry-Child Hunger Ends Here

Growing up hungry shouldn’t be something a child has to experience. Food is a necessity and should be available at all times. My childhood was littered with moments of hunger, moments wondering where was the food.  Dinner time would come around but there was nothing on the stove. I remember searching sofa cushions for change so I could run to the corner store for whatever I could afford with the pennies and dimes found. Sundays were spent at my grandmothers because there was always food for the entire family. Weekends were spent with my aunts because I knew I would get pancakes for breakfast. Afterschool I would try to go to a friend’s house because she always had a snack, rye bread and peanut butter, I thought that was heaven.

Today nearly 17 million children in America are at risk of not getting meals on a regular basis. We DO NOT need to live this way anymore. Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity whose mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger. With so many different ways to take action everyone can make a difference.

  • Donate: For every $1 donation, 7 meals are provided to feed the hungry in our country
  • Advocate: Organize a fundraiser, bring your community together and raise awareness
  • Volunteer: Donate your time at a local food pantry or Kid’s Café
  • Community: Become of part of Feeding America’s efforts YouTube, Facebook and Twitter

In Maryland there are approximately 456K people living below the federal poverty level. The Maryland Food Bank would have to distribute more than 84 million pounds of food to wipe out that statistic. Right now they are distributing about 19 million pounds to their servicing area. There is a gap, a large one. In recent years there has been an increase in demand for these services due to the economic downturn. Families once considered middle class are the same families now looking for help to put food on the table.

The Maryland Food Bank services programs throughout the state, excluding Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties. These programs include:

  • Kids Café-children are provided healthy meals and snacks during after-school programs
  • BackPack Program-on Fridays children who are eligible for free or reduced lunch are provided with backpacks full of food to take home and feed the family
  • Nutrition Education-USDA and University of Maryland conduct nutrition education and food safety classes to teach families to stretch their food dollars and improved diets.
  • Second Helping-Baltimore area restaurants, culinary programs and caterers donate prepared perishable food to be distributed to food pantries and soup kitchens

There are resources for families to get the help they need there just isn’t enough food to help all the families. Pitch in with a financial contribution, food donation or volunteer your time to help #fightchildhunger in your community today.
Has Child Hunger affected you in the past?  Does it affect your life today? Do you know a child that is hungry?  What can you do to help them?

Child Hunger Ends Here with ConAgra Foods

Child Hunger is a harsh reality in America. Nearly 1 in 4 kids don’t know where there next meal is coming from. Children who are hungry may develop physical problems, such as slower growth and inhibited brain development; and illnesses including stomach aches, headaches, colds, ear infections, and fatigue. Lack of proper nourishment during significant periods of growth can impact a child’s behavior, cognitive skills and their ability to learn at the proper level.

Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Their mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger. Each year, the Feeding America network provides food to more than 37 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than 14 million children and nearly 3 million seniors.
Their network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, securing and distributing more than 2.5 billion pounds of food and grocery products annually. Those member food banks support approximately 63,000 local charitable agencies and 70,000 programs, which provide food directly to individuals and families in need.

I’m teaming up with ConAgra to host a Child Hunger Ends Here Neighborhood Rally this spring to raise money for Feeding America, which provides food to 37 million people every year. These rallies are being held all across America to help feed kids at risk of hunger and you can join or organize something for your own community.

Visit Child Hunger Ends Here for details and directions and help to turn a bake sale, church rummage sale, food drive, yard sale, school carnival, neighborhood picnic or other existing community event into a CHEH Neighborhood Rally.
Stay tuned over the next few weeks to find out how you can do more to help feed kids throughout America and in your own neighborhood.
