Hayneedle.com Recap and Giveaway-CLOSED

As everyone has to know by now we are finally moved and settled into our new place in Delaware. When Melinda and I were looking at places in Delaware the place we are living now really stood out because of a few things but one of the main features was the huge deck. Melinda and I discussed what we could get to make our deck a place where we would hang out often with the kids, family and friends. We had a bistro set but needed two additional chairs and another table to make the deck complete and Hayneedle had the perfect set of Adirondack chairs.

The good thing is Melinda and I decided in advance that we wanted a nice set of Adirondack chairs. So we went to Hayneedle and clicked on the Adirondack chairs link under patio and garden and we were taken to adirondackchairs.com. That is where were given a huge selection to choose from like painted wood, recycled plastic , cedar, teak and many more. After some searching we both agreed on the Big Daddy Reclining Adirondack Chair set with free side table. If you notice these chairs and I have something in common. I will give you a moment to figure it out. Has it come to you yet? If not I will give you the answer, me and the chairs are both called Big Daddy. This kind of made the decision easy for me. Who doesn’t like chairs that share the same name as them?

The chairs are a really nice kiln dried Asian fir with a weather resistant natural finish with an attached retractable ottoman. They came unassembled but it took only about hour total to put both of them together. The step by step directions were easy to follow and very detailed. The side table came already assembled so that setup in seconds. We are really enjoying our chairs so far and they are super comfortable to sit in especially with the ottoman out.

The journey began in 2002 as Netshops when Founders Doug Nielson, Mark Hasebroock and Julie Mahloch acquired Hammocks.com and saw potential to launch more sites each focusing on a certain product category. In August 2009 the name was changed to Hayneedle and a new easy to navigate website was unveiled. Hayneedle consists of 220 stores and counting each devoted to a single product category like dartboards.com and hammocks.com just to name a few.

Hayneedle.com is your one stop shop with so many stores and items to choose from you are bound to find what you are looking for.
Hayneedle is giving on lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader one item of their choice worth up to $200. All you have to do is go to Hayneedle and tell me what three stores you like the most.

WHIPLASH™ Scooter for Summer Fun Recap

We’ve worked with Street Surfing in the past so we knew to expect top-notch, quality gear. This summer we got the chance to analyse the crazy popular Whiplash scooter. The Whiplash™ is a self-propelling, revolutionary new ride. It is part scooter, part Wave board (caster board) and totally fun. The Whiplash Scooter’s flexing deck and handlebar fuse together to provide riders with a cool, side to side, whip-like ride. Riders can self-propel the scooter so that their feet never touch the ground or ride it like a a traditional scooter.

I was so proud of Shaun. Rob and I were very concerned about letting Shaun ride the Whiplash. He easily gets discouraged if he doesn’t succeed as something right away. We truly expected his to lose his balance and give up saying riding it was too hard. You can see how WRONG we were. He rides it all the time and all the kids in the neighborhood (old and new) are constantly asking for a chance to try it out.

The Whiplash Scooter is a must buy for kids this summer. Shop at local retailers or online for your own Whiplash (retail value $80), replacement wheels and most importantly helmets. Remember no matter the age of the rider, stay safe.

Win your own Whiplash scooter from LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Street Surfing or Whiplash Scooter and tell me who you want to win this for.

Despicable Me Screening Recap plus Prize Pack Giveaway-CLOSED

From the producers of Ice Age and Dr. Suess’ Horton Hears a Who comes this summer’s 3-D, CGI feature Despicable Me; the story of the world’s greatest super villian meeting his biggest challenger ever, KIDS.  This film shows the human as well as the humorous side behind the evil powers in humanity.  With a cast filled with comedic powerhouses such as Steve Carrell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand and Will Arnett, Despicable Me is destined for our DVD library. (this is Shae’s favorite part)

“In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden deep beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by an army of tireless, little yellow minions, we discover Gru (Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon (Yes, the moon!).
Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad.
One of the world’s greatest super-villains has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.”

I’m not sure what I was expecting when we arrived at the Owings Mills AMC Theater on Saturday morning.  I had watched the trailers and read the synopsis but still was curious what the movie was about and what the Minions had to do with the story.  I’m guessing that is the whole point, keep the audience guessing.
The theater was PACKED, literally not an empty seat to be found. We settled in with our 3D glasses (which took me about 20 minutes to get used to) and prepared for an entertaining flick.  That is was!  The script was written with kids in mind using words like poop and butt; but of course like any good kids movie there were little things that kept the humor alive with the adults.  The story ends with a simple but touching moment that of course brought a tear to my eye.

To celebrate the release (in theaters July 9th) Universal Studios is offering a fun giveaway for LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too readers!

Two (2) Winners will receive:

  • Youth Shirt
  • Youth Hat
  • Moo-Can (it moos!)
  • Pencil with Minion Topper
  • Balloon
  • Minion Ink Stamp

To enter simply visit Despicable Me official website and come back and tell me something cool, new or interesting about the movie, games, downloads and more.

VTech V.Reader Recap and Giveaway – CLOSED

Learning to read is one of a child’s greatest milestones. VTech knows this and has just introduced the V.Reader. Think Kindle but for kids. The V.Reader is the coolest gadget around with a fun, exciting and educational twist. A quick rundown of the features:

  • Animated Storyteller: Stories come to life through vivid animation, narration, character voices, graphics, sounds and music. Young children engage with stories by watching, reading and learning. They follow their favorite character’s voice, play reading games and use the story dictionary.
  • Downloadable Fun: (coming soon) With a rich download library, more than 100 additional stories will be available via a download library located on the VTech Web site (www.vtechkids.com), including some free titles, more themes and avatars to customize their e-readers. V.Reader is compatible with a PC or Mac computer.
  • Track Progress: Parents can join in on the fun and learning process with the features that include progress reports and reading certificates.
  • Lovable Characters: Children’s favorite licensed characters come to life and help them learn with 11 software options (with more titles to be added in the near future).
  • Touch and Read System: Kids have two play options – listen and follow along to the story as read by animated characters; or touch the screen and play reading games to learn each word or sentence.
  • Reading Skills: Your child learns the necessary building blocks to grow into a fluent reader. V.Reader teaches reading comprehension, vocabulary, phonics and word building, along with a story dictionary that describes word definitions in a manner that’s easy for them to comprehend.

Shae and Shaun have been playing with the V.Reader for the past week with fun results. Shae likes the games that came with The Little Engine That Could. Shaun likes the dictionary; he likes to get his own explanation out before the V.Reader then see how they compare. So far the V.Reader is a great addition to the kids educational toys/tools and I look forward to seeing how Shae grows into it and Shaun teaches his little sister.

V.Reader will be available exclusively at Target June 20 and nationwide in August at all key retailers and online at www.vtechkids.com.

Win your own V.Reader from VTech right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit VTech and tell me what V.Reader game you would be a great match for your kids.

Shae’s 1st Bikini from Lil’ Bettie Beachwear plus GIVEAWAY

Summer is here! Today is the official first day of summer. We celebrated this weekend with some fun in the hose in the yard. Shae got to sport her new Lil’ Bettie Beachwear bikini. Her Water Lily Bikini has a bright wavy striped bottom and triangle top adorned with flowers and detailed stitching. This is her first bikini ever and it’s adorable. I love the bright colors; pink, green, orange, blue and fuchsia.

Lil’ Bettie Beachwear carries bikinis, tankinis, 1-pieces, rash guards and cover-ups for girls, age’s baby to tween. All the swim suits are made with Brazilian Lycra to ensure a proper fit and extended life. Brazilian Lycra is different in that it is more tightly woven to last the entire swimming season without stretch or fade.

I was told to up-size when choosing Shae’s swimsuit. Since these swimsuits are made in Brazil they tend to run small. I’m gonna say this is true 100%. Shae has been wearing a 3 but just recently moved up to a 4 but I stuck with a size 4 for the swimsuit. I wish I had thought about it and size-up like I was told. While the swimsuit fits, Shae sports a little butt-crack when she bends down. I’m guessing sizing up won’t really help this but might just cause the bottoms to fall down exposing more than just heiny.

Lil’ Bettie Beachwear is a division of Seaside Brands, Inc. and works hard to give back to the community, specifically the Yellow Bug School. Seaside Brand’s, Inc and Yellow Bug sponsor a school for employee children at no cost, as well as for the poorest children in town so they can get a solid start in life. In the spirit in which Lil’ Bettie was created, a percentage of sales from the line will be donated to the Yellow Bug School which will go toward building an elementary school for the students that otherwise would not get an education.

WIN a Lil’ Bettie Beachwear girls swimsuit for a little girl in your life. Visit Lil’ Bettie and tell me which style you like best. (the winner will submit their size preference and Lil’ Bettie representatives will provide a swimsuit of their choice based on availability)

Kid’s Crocband Recap and Giveaway-CLOSED

Shaun is a sneaker kid who wears sneakers 99.9% of the time. This summer we wanted to try something different. We wanted footwear that was comfortable, lightweight and easy to put on and take off since during the summer Shaun is constantly in and out of the house. We decided on Crocs based on their reputation for comfort and durability which is very important to us.

Crocs, Inc. is a designer, manufacturer and retailer of footwear for men, women and children under the Crocs™ brand. All Crocs™ brand shoes feature Crocs’ proprietary closed-cell resin, Croslite™, which represents a substantial innovation in footwear. The Croslite™ material enables Crocs to produce soft, comfortable, lightweight, superior-gripping, non-marking and odor-resistant shoes. These unique elements make Crocs™ footwear ideal for casual wear, as well as for professional and recreational uses such as boating, hiking, hospitality and gardening. The versatile use of the material has enabled Crocs to successfully market its products to a broad range of consumers. Crocs™ shoes are sold in more than 125 countries and come in a wide array of colors and styles.

Until recently Crocs never really appealed to me and I never really liked how they looked. They have come a long way and have a ton of really cool styles for men, women and children. I think I really started liking Crocs last October when I went to a blog convention in Florida and I received a free pair of Croc flip-flops. They are super comfortable and look pretty cool also. I also like the selection Crocs has to offer like clogs, sandals, flip-flops, boots, etc so they have footwear for just about everyone.

After buying Shaun a pair of black Kids Crocbands and hearing him tell me over and over how much he liked them we were pretty excited to get a pair of dahlia Crocbands for Shae as a analysis. What I find really cool about the Kids Crocbands is the color selection like dahlia, lime and bubble gum. They allow kids to have their own sense of coolness and style.
Shaun has had his Crocs about a month now and so far so good in the durability department. Shaun wears his Crocs outside every since day to play and he tends to be rough on shoes but no sign at all of anything other than normal wear like dirt and grime. I just remembered another cool thing I like about Crocs is that they are make from a material called Crocslite which is odor resistant. This is a huge factor is getting Crocs for Shaun because his feet tend to stink in regular shoes after playing outside on a hot summer day. I am really impressed with Crocs and with everything they have to offer. If you need some cool footwear for the summer or for anytime of the year stop by Crocs and see what they have to offer.
Crocs is being super cool and offering one lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too reader a pair of Kids Crocbands (you can select color but color not guaranteed). Head over to Crocs and tell me what shoes you would love to have if you could have any pair they offered.

iFrogz CS40’s Headphones Comfy for Kids, Perfect for Dad Gift

As a family we like technology. On car rides the kids or during downtime the kids can be found playing games or listening to music. Even in the car the DVD is a best friend. I hate listening to 3 or 4 different toys/games/devices going at the same time. The IFrogz CS40’s headphones that were sent for Shaun and Shae are awesome.

Since they are younger/littler earbuds don’t usually work for them. The CS40’s are full sized headphones with a cushy, comfortable, ear-cupping fit; the CS stands for comfort series, they got that right. The headband is adjustable too so they can be easily worn by anyone in the family. The ear pieces fold into themselves for easy storage too; helpful when the geek drawer is filled to capacity.

I like that the kids can play and listen and I don’t have to listen to it. The standard jack fits into all of their gadgets plus the DVD player in the van; perfect for when the wireless headphone’s batteries decide to die in the middle of a long car ride. I’ve even plugged them into my laptop to watch old episode of Family Guy on Hulu.

Here is the tech breakdown of the CS40’s from IFrogz (I don’t know what any of this mean, but it might be important to someone)

  • Driver Unit: 40 mm
  • Impedance: 32 ohms
  • Sensitivity: 120 dB +/- 3 dB
  • Frequency Response: 30 Hz to 20 kHz
  • Cord Length: 1.2 m
  • Plug: 3.5 mm

All in all I’m impressed with the durability of the CS40’s. Between Shae who leaves her stuff on the floor to be stepped on and Shaun who is a rough 7 year old these have held up perfectly. The sound quality is great and best of all they are comfortable on my kid’s heads and ears.

IFrogz does more than earphones. iFrogz brings you the absolute most original and customizable iPod™, MP3 player, smart phone and digital media accessories around.

Win your own pair of iFrogz CS40’s (value $39.99) for you or a kiddo in your life. Visit iFrogz and let me know what else catches your eye.

VTech MobiGo with Touchscreen Technology Recap

My kids are hooked on their electronics. I really try to keep the bulk of their plugged in time educational but still fun. The new VTech MobiGo combines those 2 things with the latest touch screen technology. Shae can now sit next to her big brother and sister and play like they do.

The MobiGo comes with a cartridge filled with basic (non-character) learning games. Shae’s favorite so far is Ice Escape. If you are familiar with Parking Lot, it’s very similar to that. The object of the game is to move the ice blocks and snowballs to get the penguin to his meal. I was surprised at how well she picked up this puzzle/strategy game. Here is a rundown of the great features:

  • Touch-screen: MobiGo’s touch-screen technology adds a modern twist to electronic learning games, so kids learn while mimicking the way parents use touch-screen devices.
  • Educational games: From fishing, coloring book pages, drawing and playing instruments, kids can discover a wide variety of fun and engaging learning games.
  • Learning skills: MobiGo teaches a wide range of skills including math, vocabulary, spelling, logic and categorization. The slide open QWERTY keyboard introduces older kids to text typing skills.
  • Downloadable Content: Additional games and content will be available for download so kids can customize
  • their MobiGo with the latest innovative games and continue the learning and fun for years to come.
  • Portable: Handheld robust gaming console makes learning fun on the go for little hands and is equipped with headphone and AC adapter jacks.

Our initial experience wasn’t so hot, we had a problem with the audio but VTech jumped in and remedied the situation immediately. Shae was even happier with her replacement and the special extra game that was sent; Toy Story 3. I can’t wait to pick up the Dora game for her. I’m really hoping for a carrying case also, she’s good for leaving her stuff all over the place.

The VTech MobiGo has become Shae’s #1 electronic game system; in fact we gifted her previous sytem within 2 days knowing she was never going to touch it again. The MobiGo is scheduled to be released June 7th at Toys R Us, MSRP $59.99 with games starting $19.99
