Fabulous Ice Age #NetFlixKids

Netflix_StreamTeam_Badge

2014 disclosure

The Pairs Ice Dancing Competition is my favorite event in the Olympics. I find the chemistry between the couples beautiful and I am always blown away by the amazing jumps and lifts that they are able to perform all while sliding around on thin blades across ice. The way that the two can travel side by side at such a great speed and then the man lifts her and continues with the woman hoisted over his head all while keeping his balance is astounding. The trust that the woman must have in her partner to allow herself to be tossed into the air and spun around never fails to amaze me. They both posses such power and grace and they move so perfectly together; it’s breath-taking.

The Fabulous Ice Age took me back to the very first ice shows in 1930s night clubs and the ice dancer turned movie star Sonja Henie, up to the modern day Disney On Ice performances.

Fabulous Ice Age #netflixkidsThere was so much wonderful old footage of people with so much joy for what they were doing; I was thrilled. All of those people who spent their lives watching these wonderful shows and collecting props and costumes and memorabilia have such a passion for the sport. I don’t blame them. I love seeing the ice shows that Disney puts on. As soon as they began to talk about the start of the Disney shows, I began to remember all of the wonderful times that I’ve had with my family at those performances. They’re so much fun; getting to see my favorite characters and hear the songs from my favorite movies but all performed on ice. It was sad to hear that the old shows had to end for Disney to begin but a whole new era of Americans got to enjoy ice skating the way people did in the 1930s.

Happy Father’s Day to our own #DespicableDad

We are being compensated to share this information. All opinions are our own.

Despicable Me is one our all time favorite movies. It was Shae’s very first movie theater experience and we enjoyed it as a family. On July 3rd, Despicable Me 2 arrives in theaters with more Minion Madness and antics with Gru and the girls.

Gru is the villian turned softie of the movie. The girls, Agnes, Edith and Margo stepped into Gru’s life when he least expected it and made him realize that it was time to hang up his freeze ray. Gru’s life is dramatically different in the new movie. While he’s learned compassion and forgiveness he still manages to work on his super-villain skills.

Our own Despicable Dad deals with these same issues every day; well maybe not making enemies. Rob is a tough dad, strict and demanding but there are times that you can visibly see his heart melting when the kids are by his side. Some days they are his nemesis and some days they are his sidekick but they are always his number one priority. Happy Father’s Day to you Rob.

Les Misérables on the Big Screen on Christmas Day #lesmis

One of my first experiences with a Broadway style show was Les Misérables.  I believe it was 8th grade, the brother of my nun/teacher was wealthy and treated the students to meaningful experiences that a broke Philadelphia Catholic school system didn’t have money for. The details are sketchy as to what Center City theater we went to but I remember the performance vividly.  It was powerful and emotional and something I’ve remembered for many many years.

This particular adaptation of Les Misérables is different than any other done before.  While each actor has a script to follow using ORIGINAL stage music they are able to incorporate their own emotion, heart and soul to represent this old story of love, atonement and suffering. I’m already a Hugh Jackman fan but I’m really looking forward to the power behind this role.

Les Misérables is the motion-picture adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year.  Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award®-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar®winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.  Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole.  When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Disney Pixar Brave Coming Soon

On June 22nd, Disney and Pixar will release their 13th feature film, Brave. This is one that I’ve been waiting for. Just looking at the elaborate scenes and reading the plot it’s destined to be a fantastic story. Unlike Disney’s usual films this one is darker, more mature.

Based in 10th century Scotland, Brave is about a young girl fighting against tradition to create her own fate. Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald) defies the custom and sets off to change things for good. Instead she brings chaos and turmoil to kingdom lives and must undo a curse before it’s too late. Only then does she know the true meaning of Bravery.

Top Tear Jerkers

Who doesn’t love a good cry? When I’m flipping channels and see a known tear jerker flick I stop.  There’s something about the overwhelming outpouring of emotion that is cleansing and cathartic.   There are some movies that while the acting or actors aren’t up to par the story hits close to home.  Here is a list of some of my favorite tear jerker movies.

My Life-Michael Keaton’s character learns his days are numbered and lives the rest of his life to the fullest while leaving messages and lessons for his unborn child.

Dying’s a really hard way to learn about life. ~Bob Jones

E.T.-Elliot finds a stranded alien and works against all odd to return him to his home.

Brians Song-True story on based on the friendship of Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers as they are faced with Piccolo’s impending death.

brians song, tear jerker, movies that make me cry

Notebook-Probably one of the most intense love stories ever.  Money and status can’t keep this couple apart even in death.

I Am Sam-Sam fights for custody of his daughter after authorities take her away due to his mental disabilities.

i am sam, sean penn, tear jerker

Beaches-Years go by that can’t keep these friends apart in the toughest of times.

Soundtrack includes Wind Beneath My Wings

Terms of Endearment-The ultimate in tear jerker movies; a story of dysfunctional mother daughter relationship.

Step Mom-The mom has to hand over the reigns to the stepmom when she learns of her diagnosis.

P.S. I Love You-A widow gets messages from her late husband, reminding her to keep living and loving.

Mask-the pressures of a physical deformity sometimes is too much to handle for Rocky and his family.

These things are good: ice cream and cake, a ride on a harley, seeing monkeys in the trees, the rain on my tongue, and the sun shining on my face. These things are a drag: dust in my hair, holes in my shoes, no money in my pocket, and the sun shining on my face. ~Rocky Dennis

City of Angels-Falling in love with an Angel can only end badly for everyone.

My Girl-Young friends deal with life and death when one of them dies too soon.

So that’s my list, for now. I know there are so many more that come to mind. What is on you list as a top tear jerker movie.
