Shopping Healthy with Thrive Market

I was given a credit to shop and with all of the unique options it took me hours to spend $100. I chose items I knew we’d all like but also branched out and got  few surprises hoping for good results.

Shae is a freeze dried fruit fanatic. I received 4 bags and 1 was gone within the first day.  The Popcorn Indiana brand was amazing and I ate both bags by myself. I told the kids it was off limits, this was mom’s special popcorn.

I was also able to get Rob a Sriracha Mayo. He’s been using this on his sandwiches for work and even as a dip for fries. It’s spicy without being overwhelming like straight Sriracha.

I did find some prices to be equal or even a touch higher than my grocery store. I think with some more research and growth Thrive Market can really go against the big box stores with price.  They already have them beat with selection so that’s a step in the right direction. If anything it’s a great way to try something new like I did with this coconut oil. I’ve been seeing so much about the health benefits lately so instead of buying just any brand in the store I went with one that has already been vetted by Thrive Market.

I didn’t expect this to smell good enough to eat by the spoonful. #firsttimer

AboutOne-and introduction

Organized, efficient, well-rounded and resourceful; these are terms that should describe any SAHM running a household. Unfortunately this hasn’t completely been a good depiction of me. I’m forgetful, I lose things, I’m forgetful, I work on projects last minute and oh did I say I’m forgetful.

In comes AboutOne- an online family information management system that is accessible anytime, anywhere. Started out of necessity AboutOne is a tool for every family. AboutOne was designed by moms and dads for moms and dads to make managing all that household information fast, fun, and easy. With just a few clicks your information is stored with bank-level security, and all your posts can then be combined or mixed together in new ways, saving you time on everyday chores like creating family newsletters, scrapbooks, hardcover photo albums, and creating and mailing holiday cards, or completing school forms, college applications, caregiver instructions, and tax returns.

Recently our son was diagnosed with ADD; I wanted a central place to keep all of the paperwork from the doctors and teachers so that I could keep track of his progress, medications and efforts from all parties. I’m working on getting all documents in order so I can scan and store them online with AboutOne. Doing this will allow me to access the information from the doctor’s office or school without having to carry everything with me.

Even without specific diagnosis you can create a health profile for every member of your family. Chart vitals, past medications, insurance information and identifying birthmarks or scars. Immunization recommendations change so frequently that it’s impossible to know what is expected at each well visit. Keep track of what has been administered over the years in case of doctor or insurance switch or if you’ve encountered a child with the dreaded chicken pox.

About One is all about keeping your important information in one place and easily accessible at any time. Update your life as it happens.

This post was written to introduce you to AboutOne and some of the features available.  I am a Mom Panelist for AboutOne.

Organize your Shopping and Wishlists with Rightcliq by Visa

Shopping season is among us. If you’re at all like me you have a tattered piece of paper with ideas, stores, sizes and colors all over it. This is my Christmas Wishlist; well not just mine but things I want for the kids and other family and friends. There is a new way organize all of these lists now, Rightcliq by Visa.

So Rightcliq is an online tool to help keep your shopping lists or wishlists in order. Most of us shop online, maybe you browse online and shop in brick and mortar stores but for the most part it starts at your fingertips. Righcliq allows you to save all of those awesome finds together, on one page instead of a sidebar of different website bookmarks. Since signing up for my free account last week I’ve set up a wishspace not just for things I want but gift ideas for others.

rightcliq dashboard

The process is quite simple actually. Download the little Rightcliq widget that sits in your toolbar and when you find that perfect gift for Aunt Sally, click the button, highlight the product and Viola it’s in your “wishspace”. There’s also a Notes box where you can add information like who this is for, their birthday or even the quantity. Some sites I’ve found aren’t 100% compatible, it might not pull a picture or a complete description or a price but overall I’ve found it to be helpful. I’ve been adding things to my “wishspace” , sharing it with Rob so he can see all the great gift ideas I have not just for the kids but for family.

Black Friday Sale may be the biggest shopping day of the year, but make everyday the best shopping experience you’ve ever had.. What better way to get a headstart on the hectic shopping than to get your “wants” and “needs” all in one spot so you can shop smarter, faster and more organized. Stay updated on Rightcliq’s latest offers and news by liking them on Facebook or becoming a Twitter follower.

Without Peanut Butter My Kids Would Starve…

So when I got a note a while back asking if I wanted to participate in the Jif Peanut Butter Online Tasting party I said Oh Yeah! The word party wasn’t actually part of the invitation but that’s exactly what it turned out to be.  My family received a ridiculous amount of peanut butter (peanut butter and honey, Omega-3 Creamy, Crunchy, Natural & Creamy), crackers, icing, pretzels, cookies, pita chips and MORE along with some cool lunch bags and reusable bags. We were then told to do a little shopping and come up with some recipes and new ideas to share with the Jif team.

The night of the online party came, Rob and Sabreena sat with me while signing in to the online tasting and it the fun started right away. We immediately taste-tested baby carrots and peanut butter which surprisingly were good. We already know peanut butter and celery are a good match. The taste testing got more elaborate then downright weird when they paired bacon and peanut butter.

Sarah Donahoe and Cody Adams both with J.M. Smucker Company worked on some great ideas, recipes and fun stories while interacting with a slew of online party-goers with our own ideas, recipes and dares.
One of our favorite recipes that we ate right along was:

Peanut Butter Apple Rings
Ingredients:
• 1/3 cup Jif® Natural Creamy Peanut Butter Spread
• 4 teaspoons honey
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 large red delicious apple, cored and cut crosswise into 6 rings
• 1/2 cup granola cereal with raisins

Directions:
1. STIR peanut butter, honey and cinnamon in small bowl. Arrange apple rings on serving plates. Spread rings evenly with thin layer of peanut butter mixture.
2. LIGHTLY PRESS granola cereal into peanut butter mixture. Serve immediately.

The trick is to pat the apple dry otherwise the peanut butter won’t stick.

Each and every day in our home a peanut butter jar can be found on the counter as some point during the day. Often it’s for breakfast, usually it’s for lunch and sometimes it’s for snack after school. I’ve found since doing this event with Jif I really appreciate the flavor over other brands. It tastes like peanuts. I did share a couple of ideas that we do in our own home like peanut butter on toasted waffles for breakfast or adding a couple TBLS to smoothies to boost protein and flavor.

Are you a peanut butter fanatic? Could your child use a $25,000 scholarship? Enter the Jif® Most Creative Peanut Butter Sandwich Contest for your chance at the Grand Prize. Just mail in the recipe of your most creative and tasty sandwich creation. All entries must be postmarked by October 22, 2010. Visit Jif.com for complete rules and details as well as the entry form.
