New Filtrete Water Station from 3M

In our house we drink water more then any other beverage so it is important for it to taste good and it is nice to be able to take it on the go. The New Filtrete Water Station from 3M allows us to enjoy high quality H2O at home and on the go.
What I like about the new Filtrete Water Station from 3M is it provides the convenience of bottled water without the cost or waste. Our family is into conservation and recycling but anything we can do to reduce waste is a HUGE plus. With this water station you are reducing about 3,000 plastic water bottles worth of waste per year.

Here are a few cool product features of the New Filtrete water Station from 3M:

  •  Filter lasts longer, filtering two and a half times more water than traditional pitcher filters (up to 100 gallons or for approximately three months)
  • Includes a three month filter change indicator that shows when it’s time to change the filter
  • Reduces sediments and chlorine taste and odor from tap water
  • Includes four, 16.9 ounce bottles that are dishwasher safe, BPA free and include a leak proof cap
  • Filter housing is recyclable with #2 plastics (Check with your local recycler)

I found the Filtrere Water Station from 3M to be very simple and efficient to use. I like how it is faster then traditional filters and how the water is filtered directly from the tap into the four reusable water bottles. Overall I am very pleased with the performance as well as the price. The water station itself retails for $42.99 and is available online as well as at mass merchants. The filter which is what people dread buying the most because they tend to be terribly expensive retails for $12.99 which in my opinion is pretty reasonable. The only thing I recommend is if you are a big water drinker you might want to pick up extra 16.9 ounce water bottles. For a pack of two they retail for $15.99.

So, if you drink a lot of water like my family and want something that is cost effective, simple to use and makes your water taster awesome they run out and pick up the New Filtrete Water Station from 3M.

Have You Ever Had Pastelillos?

Here is my question for you, have you ever had a Pastelillos?  Pastelillos is a Spanish beef patty which is a very famous pastry among Puerto Ricans and Dominicans.
If not you need to figure out how to get your hands on these little gems of goodness because they are AWESOME. I have been married to Melinda who is Puerto Rican for 9 years and this is the first time I have had these. Can you believe that? I can’t believe it has taken me so long to have these. It feels like I have been robbed for the last 9 years.  LOL. Her aunt made them and like I said they are soooooooooo good!  Look at that fried goodness above (mouth watering).  I can’t wait until I can have a few of these again.

The funny thing is on Saturday I couldn’t pronounce the name of these so I asked Melinda were there any more Hot Pockets left.  Pastelillos and Hot Pockets same concept but Pastelillos are a million time better!!!!!

I am not sure how to make them but here is a recipe I found online:

Ingredients

1 pk Goya dough for turnover pastries (discos para empanadas) look for it in the frozen Spanish section of your supermarket—they usually come frozen, ten in a pack.

1 lb lean ground beef

3 tbs sofrito or (1 tbs chopped onions, green peppers, red peppers and garlic, and 2 tbs chopped cilantro or you may use one teaspoon of Adobo Goya)

1 cup cooking oil

2 envelopes of Sason Goya with annatto, for coloring

Salt and pepper to taste

Rolling pin

All purpose flour

(For spicy hot flavor add Cayenne powder or hot sauce to the ground beef mixture.)

Directions on how to make them:

  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef. No need to drain ground beef if you used lean meat. Otherwise drain.
  • Add the sofrito (or alternative), the salt and pepper and the Sason Goya. Stir. Simmer at low heat until meat is completely cooked. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, pour oil in a small-medium skillet. While the oil gets hot, dust some flour on your counter. Put one pastry disc over the dusted counter and stretch out the dough, turn it over on the other side and do the same.
  • Spoon some beef mixture in the center of the disc. Close the disc to a half-moon. Seal the edges by pressing around it with a fork. By this time your oil should be hot.
  • Being careful, you may drop the filled pastry disc into the hot oil. Fry pastries until golden brown (one-two minutes.) Turn it over other side and cook until golden brown.
  • Remove from oil and rest it on paper towel. Repeat the same process and fry the rest of the discs. You may find it easier to fill and fry two pastry discs at the time.

Warning! The filling is very hot, although the pastry is probably not as hot.

Blue Smoke Salsa

Chips and salsa are the ultimate anytime snack and Melinda and I love to try different salsas so when we were asked if we wanted to try Blue Smoke Salsa we were like “heck yeah”.

We used our bag recently for a day full of shopping. The internal changing pad came in really handy for those times that changing tables weren’t available. I was able to use dressing rooms with ease and privacy. Diapers and wipes are easily accessible when the bag is open so there is no reaching around searching for exactly what is needed.
