Our DVR was set up to record House, at least we thought it was. This past weekend when it was time to settle in to catch up on TV we quickly realized we lost the last 2 episodes. We easily caught up using the Roku and Hulu Plus.
Roku is a streaming media player for home with over 300 channels; something for everyone. Since the Fox network can’t be found anywhere on On-Demand we knew we could find it on Hulu Plus. And since we both want to watch House the television was the only place to watch. The Roku has been set up for a couple weeks already but our limited tv watching time hasn’t given us a chance to utilize it much. This weekend we were able to catch up on favorites and play Angry Birds LIFESIZE!
On Christmas day we like to either play seasonal music watch holiday movies while we unwrap gifts, entertain family and eat. Using the Roku is going to allow us to do this seamlessly with channels like Pandora and Amazon Instant Video and Disney.

So the iPad has been getting lots more use…not from me though. I’ve started researching more kid’s games and teaching apps so it has become more of a teaching tool for Shaun and Shae. I’m still panicked with them handling it even though we installed an Otterbox case a while ago. Two Birthday’s just passed, my little nieces both turned 2 within a few days of each other. I had gifts planned out for them but the opportunity came up to review the new Cracker Barrel Butterflies Dolls.

With school in full swing so are the daily reminders to “read for 20 minutes each day” from Shaun’s teacher. Last year this was a struggle for us, he wasn’t into reading. This year something changed; changed for the better and he now has a stack of books next to his bed. Last week was Shaun’s Scholastic Book Fair, we spent almost $50 but it’s money well spent in my opinion. Books are not only a great way to spend some quiet unplugged time it’s also a great way to get the creative juices flowing for play and even homework. Shaun struggles with sentence and story writing. I notice he tends to stick to factual events rather than imaginative stories of make-believe. His increased reading has opened up his artistic mind and allowed him to write stories about dragons, bears and polka dot shoes instead of our activities of the weekend.
