Meet the New Flip Family and enter to WIN Flip MinoHD

One of the hottest and most popular gifts this season is the Flip camcorder. It’s small package, easy to use design and quick download are it’s greatest features.  It’s small enough to carry everywhere but still powerful enough to to capture those funniest/sweetest/happiest moments in your life?

A lot families struggle with using video cameras on a regular basis because they aren’t very user friendly. Chargers, cables, replacing batteries, memory cards, size and price are the biggest complaints. The answer to all of these issues is the Flip Video UltraHD or MinoHD or the newest addition, the SlideHD point and share camcorder.  Cisco launched a new line of Flip cameras that still have the great features we’ve grown to love but now with enhanced quality, a sleeker design and fun accessories and design options. The simplicity of using this camcorder is still its biggest selling point. Turn it on and you’re ready to go. There is a zoom in/out feature too but I don’t use it that often as I’m mostly recording the kids doing something or Rob eating something strange.

The Flip gets its name from the flip out USB plug that allows instant upload to YouTube, your pc or a separate editing program. No need for a separate software upload; the FlipShare program installs directly to your PC when you first plug in. Doing this also charges the Flip camera.

There are 3 choices of cameras from Flip; the Mino HD, the Ultra HD and the new SlideHD. The differences between them in my opinion are slight. The UltraHD can utilize batteries while the SlideHD has a larger image viewing screen. We’ve only had MinoHD cameras and they’ve always proved to be efficient, really good quality and best of all easy to use.

We’ve been using our Flip cameras almost exclusively for over a year. We do break out our JVC Everio for Christmas just due to capacity and battery life. The Flip is always in my purse waiting for that next great moment. We captured a great one on our family cruise this summer; Shae learned how to swim.

One complaint I have about the Flip is the lack of extra lighting or a flash but I’ve come to adjust my filming especially if it’s something planned. Instead of using in our low light living room I take it to the kitchen or better yet outside where we always get great products. Also I see where people can complain about the fixed FlipPort. Unless you are sitting on a stable, flat surface there is a chance that you can easily damage it by letting it dangle.

Win your own Flip MinoHD from Cisco here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Flip’s Do You Flip? YouTube Channel and tell me which video is your favorite.

Commit a Minute to Safety and #win $250 Visa GC

The tree is up, the house is decorated and the wreath is hanging. Sounds simple enough except this year we did things very differently. Our Christmas décor fills up 3 coffin size totes but we only used about 1 ½. This year I’m taking care of my niece each day and I knew that while our own kids know the things they can and cannot touch I didn’t want to put the little one  in harms way.

The actual tree decorations are divided up, breakables up top plush and fun ones on the bottom. The porcelain Nativity is set on the highest bookshelf where no one can touch it and candles weren’t even a thought. This simple but still festive arrangement has me less stressed than I would’ve been if I put out the stocking hangers, figurines and glitter trees. Maybe next year when she’s a little older we can go bolder and brighter and over the top but this year safety comes first you take to make the holidays safer for family and friends?

How are you going to Commit a Minute to holiday safety this year? Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a leading independent safety organization, is calling all parents to set aside time in their busy schedule to commit at least one minute to safety each day this holiday season.  Where ever you are, how are you keeping your family safe at home, at gatherings, on the road or lugging home a fresh pine.

Here are a couple TOP TIPS for Safer Holidays that you can incorporate into your life

Water your tree: Dry trees pose a substantial fire risk. After bringing your tree home, make a fresh cut at the base of the trunk before putting it in a sturdy stand. Be sure to water it daily. Additionally, know your trees expiration date. After about four weeks, the tree will stop absorbing water, dry out and should be discarded.

Sleep safe, install smoke alarms: UL recommends using both types of smoke alarms in your home. Be sure that at least one smoke alarm is installed on each floor of your home, and always close to sleeping areas.

Be flame aware: Always blow out unattended candles and teach your children to stay away from lit candles or fireplaces.

Look for UL: Only use light strings and other electrical decorations that bear the UL Mark near the plug, signifying that safety standards have been met.

UL, SafetyAtHome.com and LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! want to know your own Top Safety Tip this holiday season for a chance to win a $250 Visa Gift Card.

*The participating blog with the most interaction/comments will be awarded the $250 Visa GC, if LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! win we will be providing the GC as a giveaway to one of our readers. We have received a $100 GC as compensation to host this promotion.

Roxio Creator 2011 Giveaway

Melinda and I are currently using a photo editing software program that is 7 years old so we were excited when we received a copy of Roxio Creator 2011 with 3D for review.

Roxio Creator 2011 with 3D will do everything from burning a CD to creating 3D photos from a 2D image. To me that is pretty cool because that is one of many things that our 7 year old software can’t do. Melinda does most of the photo work but my job is the movies. I have a Flip and Camcorder that I use constantly and have started using Roxio to do my video editing. You are given a few different edit options where you can quickly add music to scenes or you can create movies with custom sounds tracks, titles, transitions and effects.

Another cool feature of Roxio Creator 2011 is the Learning Center. If you are new to burning cd’s/dvd’s, creating 3D movies or just need a few basic pointers this is a great resource. When you are in the Learning Center you can click on the individual tab that you need help with and open it up in a PDF document that will show you step by step directions with photos.

Roxio Creator 2011 is going to be our new go to program for everything like burning DVD’s as well as for video and photo editing. The first step is to learn everything that Roxio has to offer which is going to take time; at least for me anyway. Melinda was able to play around and made a few pretty funny pictures in a few minutes.

For all of you tech junkies out there here are Roxio Creator 2011 New Feature Highlights:

  • Personal 3D Made Easy
  • 3D capture from stereoscopic cameras (such as the Fuji W1)
  • Import 3D files in common 3D formats, including side-by-side, over-under, anaglyph, and dual stream. In addition, Roxio Creator 2011 supports all standard 2D photo and video file formats.
  • Simplified Storyline, as well as advanced 32-track Timeline 3D editing views and preview
  • Full range of 3D editing options including trimming, title creation, narration, music tracks, and video correction features
  • 3D-like transitions and special effects
  • 2D to 3D real-time video conversion
  • 2D to 3D photo conversion
  • Authoring of 3D-enabled DVDs and Blu-ray Discs
  • Save 3D video in a range of file formats (including RealD Format for a cinematic-quality personal home 3D experience)
  • Direct upload of 3D video to YouTube™

Suite Enhancements

  • Instant access to personal media content on your PC via the Internet and from a broad range of connected devices
  • New iPad device support and easy publishing to Facebook
  • Edit movies and create DVDs and Blu-ray Discs; now includes new video stabilization and video rotation tools.
  • Additional project templates for instantly creating personalized DVDs, high-resolution calendars, cards, and more.
  • New additions to built-in Learning Center with direct access to dozens of video tutorials and printable step-by-step instructions for quick help when needed
  • Support for iCore7 and iCore9 processors, ATI Stream, and NVIDIA CUDA technologies to reduce rendering and encoding times

Roxio Creator 2011 expands Sonic’s Total 3D initiative aimed at furthering 3D personal media enjoyment as well as premium entertainment consumption in the home. Roxio plans to continue to introduce additional 3D-enabled products and services throughout the year targeted to consumers, PC OEMs, consumer electronics manufacturers, and retailers.

No matter what your expertise Roxio is definitely something you should be using.

Here is your chance to win your own copy of Roxio Creator 2011 with 3D.  Head over to Roxio and tell me what feature about the software you think you would use most.

Things Have Changed-Shopping Nanny $100 GC Giveaway

There have been some issues with the Shopping Nanny $100 Visa Gift Card giveaway that was posted last week. The mandatory entry required readers to sign up for a free OR paid membership and report back 2 coupons that can be found in their area. During my review process I signed up for the completely free account and had no issues. By the time I posted the giveaway the requirements for the free account changed;the site was asking for credit card information. I didn’t know this until I started getting emails from readers stating they didn’t think this was a fair entry.

Shopping Nanny made changes to the website and it is now a truly FREE 4-week trial membership, no credit card information needed. I hope this brings you all back to enter the really great giveaway and check out Shopping Nanny’s really cool money-saving service.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me! Now get to entering!
