Firsts: Origins of Everyday Things That Changed the World Book

Are you a trivia junky and love knowledge about random stuff? Did you know the United States instigated the first national minimum wage on October 24, 1938, at 25 cents per hour? How about in July 1903, ground was broken for Harvard Stadium, the first Stadium specifically built for American football?

These are the kind of facts that you will find in Firsts: Origins of Everyday Things That Changed the World by Wilson Casey. Wilson Casey. a.k.a. The Trivia Guy, is one of the country’s foremost trivia aficionados, with a syndicated column, numerous books, an award-winning website (TriviaGuy.com), and a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest-running radio trivia broadcast at 30 hours. Since 2000, Wilson has written a 7-days-a-week trivia column for numerous papers, including the Albuquerque (NM) Journal, Wilmington (NC) Star News, and Spartanburg (SC) Herald-Journal, while King Features syndicates his weekly “Bible Trivia” column.

When I was contacted to do a analysis of Firsts: Origins of Everyday Things That Changed the World the first person I thought of was my daughter Sabreena. Sabreena is a straight A honor student and she loves random facts. She is intrigued with knowing where things came from and why and how things started and she will truly enjoy reading this book.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 Webcam

With today’s economy and high gas prices people are traveling less to visit family. A great way to keep in contact with loved ones is via a webcam and the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 is a great webcam to use.

I feel like I am a pretty technical savvy kind of guy but webcams have always been my kryptonite. The Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 is a very simple webcam to use and has restored my faith in my webcam ability.

When I received the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 for analysis I thought it would take me hours to get up and running. Nope, not even close, it took me about 10-15 minutes to hook up the webcam, install the software and then I was on my way to Vlogging heaven. Since receiving the webcam Melinda and I have used it a few times to talk with family and a few times to VLOG. I am really glad we got this webcam because like I said it is super easy to use and makes keeping in touch with our distant loved ones a snap.

The Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 has a TON of great features like Carl Zeiss optics with autofocus, High-Definition video and so many more features I am going to list them below because I do not want to miss anything because I feel these features are what makes this webcam so great.

Technical Specifications

o Carl Zeiss® optics with autofocus

o Native 2-MP HD sensor

o High-definition video (up to 1600 X 1200*)

o 720p widescreen mode with recommended system

o Up to 8-megapixel photos (enhanced from native 2 MP sensor)

o Microphone with Logitech® RightSound™ technology

o Universal clip fits notebooks, LCD or CRT monitors

Also, with the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 you get Logitech Vid. Logitech Vid is the fast and easy way to make a video call. And it’s free for you and anyone you call with your Logitech Webcam.

If you are in the market for a new webcam or for your very first webcam I would recommend checking out the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. You will be up and running in no time.

SafetyTat Temporary Tattoo For Kids

Being a parent comes with its own set of worries and struggles. One HUGE worry of mine is losing my children. If you remember a couple weeks back I had a scare where Shaun and Sabreena disappeared from my site for a long time. It was a nightmare.

One thing I didn’t talk about was that morning before heading out for a fun family day I applied a SafetyTat to both Shaun and Shae. Shae was never out of our site so hers didn’t come in handy but since I had to give Shaun’s information to security I was able to mention that he had a tattoo on his arm with MY phone number. Fortunately the tattoo wasn’t needed as Rob found them on his own so no one had to call me.

SafetyTat is a fun and colorful kids temporary safety tattoo with 2 distinct designs; “Original” which are customized by SafetyTat with your mobile phone number and applied with water or “Quick Stick Write-on!” which are peel-and-stick tattoos shipped blank so you can write in your mobile number with the provided tattoo marking pen. When applied to the arm of your child or loved one, SafetyTat provides a highly visible form of identification that stays in place even when wet!

The moment can happen in an instant, you lose sight of your child at the grocery store, amusement park or even your local playground. It’s a busy time of year, malls are crazy crowded and kids can quickly get separated. Take a quick moment to give yourself and your family a little insurance and apply a SafetyTat to the little ones.

Not just for lost kids though, SafetyTat also offers an Allergy Bundle to keep kids healthy when you can be by their side. Stay tuned into all of SafetyTat’s updates and new products. Do you have a story to share about your experience with SafetyTat. Become a Facebook Fan and let them know what you think. Now till December 20, 2009 received 10% off orders of $15 or more using coupon code LWMFAD09.

SafetyTat wants to keep your kids safe this holiday season. Win 1 of 2 sample packs of Quick Stick Write-on! temporary ID tattoos. Visit SafetyTat and tell me something you learned about the company, products or your own Child Safety Tip.

MAGHOUND Gives You More Bang For Your Buck

Do you read alot of different magazines like my family does? If so and you would like to be able to receive different magazines each month with no long term commitment then check out MAGHOUND.

MAGHOUND is a monthly online membership service that allows you to choose, change and manage all of the magazines that are delivered to your house.

Here is how MAGHOUND works:

1. Choose how many magazines you would like to receive each month. They have different tiers and you pay based on that tier.

Premium Magazine Note : Some higher-priced magazines, about 10% of those offered, require a small additional charge per month. The charge is variable based on the magazine. Click here to learn more.

2. Search from hundreds of magazines by category or by the magazines title.

3. Manage your account online. Replace, cancel, or add new magazines anytime you wish. If in January you get a magazine and realize it is not for you then in February change your selection and get a new magazine. To me this is the best feature of MAGHOUND.

There are no hidden commitments and no obligation to continue. If you are not satisfied with MAGHOUND for any reason, you may cancel your membership anytime, online, 24 hours a day, with no cancellation fees.

Melinda and I were really excited when MAGHOUND contacted us to do a analysis of the service. We are HUGE magazine readers and probably get 8-10 magazines a month. Now with MAGHOUND we can try magazines that we normally wouldn’t have tried because with MAGHOUND we can change what magazines we get on a monthly basis. We do not need to worry about being locked into a yearly subscription of “Trailer Life”. Yes I said Trailer Life because Melinda and I are thinking about buying an RV one day.

So far MAGHOUND has worked out great for us. I was getting a weekly magazine that I realized was too much to read so all I had to do was sign into our account and delete my weekly magazine and replace it with a new magazine selection for the following month. It is really that easy.  MAGHOUND has a great selection of magazines including ones for the kids.

I also like the substitutes list feature of MAGHOUND. Because of varying publishing schedules, certain magazines do not print an issue for every calendar month. To make sure you get full value from your membership, you are given the optional benefit of creating a Substitutes List. Substitute magazines are mailed whenever any of your primary selections are not published in a given month. This is a great way to sample new titles without increased membership fees.

You can also give the gift of magaizes with MAGHOUND.  Purchase gift credit in any denomination, email or print options to notify recipient and the recipient creates/manages their own account.

With the holidays coming up MAGHOUND would make the perfect gift.

Want to win a $1,500 shopping spree in New York City? If so enter the MAGnificent Makeover sweepstakes below by clicking on the picture. Be sure to select Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! from the drop down when entering so we get a chance to win along with you.

Klutz Encyclopedia of Immaturity Recap

Gift giving for teenagers is hard. Sabreena’s wishlist is tiny: art supplies, earbugs, zip up hoodie, iTunes GC, THAT’S IT. So we got her that stuff and some others but I recently received something I know she is going to love; The Encyclopedia of Immaturity Volume 2 from Klutz.

This book is filled with funny stories, goofy tricks and how-to lessons on the most unnecessary skills anyone would need to know. This is right up her alley as she would just love to go to school and show of to her friends how to take off your underpants without taking off your pants or how to slip on a banana.

When the Editors and Klutz published The Encyclopedia of Immaturity in 2007, we knew it would make a great gift for someone’s nephew. And, sure enough, people gave it to their nephews — but also to their grandparents, brothers-in-law and accountants. Soon we were flooded with letters, e-mails and calls sharing one common theme — “”More! More! More!”

So here’s a second helping of skills, activities, and secret knowledge — suitable only for those whose maturity stopped developing around the age of 12. In addition to thought-provoking topics like What We Talk About When We Talk About Wedgies, the book includes detailed directions for how to: fake a cold, slide down a banister, balance a ping pong ball on your nose, send a toiletgram, throw a sloshie, and more. It’s all new and all hopelessly goofy.

For years we’ve felt like the only kids at the grown-up table. Now it turns out the world is populated by a lot more people who are lot less mature than they look. Well, duh!

LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers are getting the chance to win BOTH volumes of the Encyclopedia of Immaturity from Klutz. Tell me who this would be a great gift for.

A vivabox is an exciting new product that combines the freedom of choice with the personal touch of a real gift. This two layered gift can be the answer to all of your gift giving dilemmas. Ultimate Holiday Wishlist – Cuisinart Mix It In Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Who doesn’t at least like ice cream let alone love it? Better yet who wouldn’t love making their own ice cream or frozen yogurt with the Cuisinart Mix It In Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker.

When our Cuisinart Mix It In Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker arrived for analysis I was super excited to break it open (not literally) and give it a try. I feel that I am a pretty handy and technical guy but man did this machine give me a little trouble during the assembly process. It took me about 15-20 minutes to assemble the machine.

Once assembled I figured all I needed to do was add the ingredients and viola ice cream. Nope. You actually have to freeze the freezer bowl (that is the actual name, DUH) for at least 12 hours but 24 would be better. I figured that was just a recommendation not a rule so I froze the freezer bowl for 6 hours prior to its maiden voyage. Bad idea because the freezer bowl needs a full 12-24 hours to freeze before use and because I didn’t follow directions my ice cream would not set up or freeze and it was just liquid. So a word to the wise, freeze the freezer bowl for 12-24 hours like stated. On my second attempt I froze the freezer bowl a full 24 hours and the ice cream came out like a champ. It was awesome and let me tell you it was good.

So lets get down to the nuts and bolts of the Cuisinart Mix It In Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker:

  • Adds favorite mix-ins into soft serve ice cream as it’s dispensed!
  • Pull out tabs to add one, two or all three types of mix-ins
  • Pull down handle to dispense soft serve ice cream directly into cones or bowls
  • Makes 11⁄2 quarts of frozen dessert in as little as 20 minutes
  • Fully automatic – just add favorite fresh ingredients and turn the dial
  • Cone holder holds a stack of pointed or flat bottom cones
  • Double-insulated freezer bowl holds temperature for fast results
  • No chemicals, salt or ice required
  • Removable parts for easy cleaning
  • Instruction Book and Recipe Book included
  • Limited 3-year warranty
