Baby Shower Gift #6 Kissaluvs One-Size diaper and Cloth-n-Go bag

Start your new baby’s life in the fluffy softness of a cloth diaper. While I wasn’t aware of the choices available when Sabreena and Shaun were little, Shae was the lucky one to wear cloth diapers. Our very first diapers were Kissaluvs fitteds. They really were great and she looked so adorable in them. I was a sucker for cute patterns and the latest designs but there was something special about the simple cotton fleece covering her heiny.

Even in the last 2 years Kissaluvs has made strides in cloth diaper development. With options that include organic materials, contour diapers, cloth wipes and now the Marvel One-Size fitted there is something for every family regardless of diapering stage and cloth knowledge. The new Marvels One-Size Fitted is designed to fit kiddos 10-40lbs. With it’s bamboo velour inner your baby is going to only have silky softness touching her skin but the designer print outer fabric is going to be the eye-catcher and envy of the other babies on the playmat.

The Cloth-n-Go bag is a new addition to the Kissaluvs family too. Specifically designed to hold a cloth diaper and wipes it lets you get going for a quick errand or walk around the neighborhood without lugging the entire diaperbag. The unique snap-in handle allows you to hook it over the stroller bar, carrier strap or your wrist. The PUL liner also lets moms and dads use this as a mini wetbag for that one the go diaper change. The outer material is made from the same designer fabrics as the Marvels One-Size fitted, a combo purchase would make an excellent baby shower gift.

Kissaluvs got their start the way most cloth diaper companies did, in the home where a mom was making cloth diapers for her own little one. Kissaluvs are used throughout the world by moms and dads who want the best things for their children. This was made possible by Tashi, the owner of Kissaluvs. She has personally developed the brand into something more than just a business; it’s an extension of her own family. Every diaper is made with love and inspected to be sure it’s good enough to go onto your child’s bottom. Their design is proven to work, their production team is dedicated to superior quality and Tashi’s goal is determined to take of your baby, your money and the Planet.

Kissaluvs is giving a LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! reader the chance to win this great combo prize ($38) for themselves. Read Tashi’s Diaper Story, tell me why you want to win this great prize from Kissaluvs

Cloth Diapering Basics and Happy Heiny One-Size Giveaway

For my next installment of the Preparing for Baby series I’m going to bring you something that is near and dear to my heart, CLOTH DIAPERING. While I’ve been cding Shae since she was a newborn I’m not an expert in all the types of diapers. My new friend Sherrie with Itty Bitty Baby Bunz has given a short and sweet breakdown of the styles and their benefits.

One of the greatest things about choosing to use a cloth diapering method for your child is all the options that are available to you. You truly get to find a system that works for your family’s needs simply because there are so many styles/kinds from which to choose. Unfortunately, all these choices can be quite daunting for families new to cloth. Here’s a quick rundown of what you will find when you decide to use cloth diapers on your child and a basic guide to help deliver you from the confusion:

4 basic types of cloth diapers to choose from
• All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s
• Pockets
• Fitteds
• Prefolds/Flats

Benefits:
Needs a waterproof wrap/cover-Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Needs a special fastener-Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Needs inserts to work-Pockets
Has elastic legs/waist- Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Easy to clean-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s, Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Fast drying-Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Easy to use-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s &Pockets
Available in colors/prints-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s, Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Daddy/babysitter approved-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s &Pockets
Trim fit-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s & Pockets
Economical-Prefolds/Flats

And the winners are…..

Economic Award — Prefolds/Flats
At $20 a dozen plus a few bucks for covers and closures (pins or Snappis), you can effectively diaper your child from birth to potty learning for under $400 dollars. (Throw-away diapers can easily cost you this much in 6 months – eek!) NOTE: you do not need to purchase a huge set of covers because covers can be wiped clean during wet changes and reused.

Transition Award – All-in-1’s
All-in-One’s are exactly that – everything you need to diaper your child in one piece. They require no inserts, no pins and no covers to work properly. They are an excellent transition diaper from throw away to cloth.

Convenience Award – Pocket Diapers
With a just a little preparation (stuffing the insert into the diaper), pocket diapers are the perfect solution for busy families where dad, in-laws, daycares and/or babysitters take part in diapering baby. These diapers are easy to launder (quick drying because of the removable absorbent insert) and easy to place on your baby. Since they require an absorbent material inside the pocket to function properly, pocket diapers offer caregivers exciting options. Microfiber inserts can be used for a trim diaper or add a hemp or second microfiber insert for extra absorbency overnight or for heavy wetters. Prefolds, flats, or even microfiber towels all work in pocket diapers as inexpensive inserts. Extra bonus – never have to touch the wet/soiled diaper! Just shake the insert loose into your laundry pail or bag. No ICK factor!

If you have multiple children in diapers and don’t want to deal with grabbing the right size every time they need a change, a One-Size diaper might be a good option for your family. Or, if you have only one child but don’t wish to purchase a whole new stash of diapers each time your child grows, a One-Size diaper could be the answer for you. There are many different brands of One-Size diapers available; however, most of them work using a system of snaps or fasteners on the front of the diaper. These front adjusters allow you to select the appropriate rise for your child and in essence, grow with your child. One-Size diapers will accommodate most children through their potty learning years. What a savings! A wonderful option for the cloth diapering world, though, like any system, there are a few drawbacks. If you plan to use the same One-Size diaper for three kids, you may begin to see wear and tear by the second or third child. This breakdown of the fibers does not indicate poor craftsmanship or bad quality materials, but rather the effects of washing a garment multiple times a week, month after month. A second reason you may not wish to choose a One-Size diaper is due to the bulk factor. Most moms don’t mind to see the adorable waddle of a child in cloth, but some parents don’t care for the way clothing fits (or doesn’t fit) overtop of a bulky dipe. Especially when your child is a baby, there is excess cloth in a One-Size diaper – it’s waiting there patiently for when it will be needed in the coming months.

Whatever kind of cloth diapering system you choose, you can rest assured that you are doing a great thing on many fronts.
• you are reducing the amount of waste your family contributes to our landfills
• you are saving tons of money by not purchasing paper and plastic you will just throw away every few hours
• you are, in most cases, supporting small businesses and work-at-home moms
• most importantly, you are laying your baby’s delicate skin next to soft, breathable, chemical-free materials for 24 hours each day

One of our favorite One-Size diapers are Happy Heinys One-Size Pockets. With been using this one for over a month and it fits like no other one-size we’ve tried before. With 4 size settings and generous stretch in the elastic this diaper is sure to fit from infantcy through to potty training. As with other Happy Heiney’s I’ve used the outer color is vibrant, the inner liner is soft and resists staining and the aplix closure tabs stay flush against the diaper to deter little fingers from opening. A recent design change has added leg casings instead of the traditional fleece roll out at the legs. I love the look of the little fleece peek out but think the casings work better at containing messes. Itty Bitty Baby Bunz is currently reducing their price for the diapers without leg casings to snatch them up before they are gone.

Winner Chosen: ESBaby Cloth Diaper Recapitulation

momof3dolls, July 3, 2009 3:38 PM daily tweet
http://twitter.com/momof3dolls/status/2458474120

I love fluffy butt. Don’t know what fluffy butt is? It’s the term used for cloth diapered heinys since they are soft and squishy and FLUFFY. I’ve been cloth diapering Shae since she was about a week old. We started with fitted and prefolds with covers and have moved all over the cloth world using all different brands and styles.

AIOs are a style that I’ve used off and on with success and sometimes without success. I stumbled on ESBaby and knew I had to try an All-In-One again. What drew me to ESBaby was the variety of styles and customization available plus the adorable traditional design of gathered legs, giving that sweet ruffled look. ESBaby is run by Christine, a work at home mom to two children. She makes a full line of cloth diapering products, including fitteds, covers, AIOS, QuickDry AIOs, wipes, diaper bags and wetbags. She also carries a line of women’s reusable cloth pads. ESBaby carries organic and non-organic options in all of their products and is open for custom orders.

After giving Christine Shae’s measurements her precious lavender fluffy goodness True AIO arrived and I wished women’s underwear could be made with the same plush sherpa that this diaper was made from. The fit was great, the legs and side-snapping wings had great stretch to fit Shae’s chunky thighs with room to grow and the rise was low enough to sit under her belly but still cover her booty. This diaper is thick, not a trim fit but since Shae is what some would call a “super soaker” we need the bulk so a big heiny doen’t bother me one bit.

My particular diaper has 5 layers of sherpa topped with cotton velour plus the inner lining. Christine is toying with the idea of cutting back to 4 layers to reduce the bulk but again I don’t mind it at all. With the extra layers Shae was able to nap in her diaper without any leaking or wicking to her clothing. I’m completely impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of materials.

Want to win your own ESBaby True AIO? Here’s your chance! ESBaby is giving LookWhatMomFound readers the chance to win one of their own. Visit ESBaby and sign up for Christine’s newsletter then come back and tell me what other product you would like to try.

Winner Chosen…Happy Heinys cloth diaper GIVEAWAY

I like the Royal Blue Size L.

When I found out I was pregnant with Shae, to say it was a surprise is an understatement. I was living my baby fever through the mamas at Babytalkbio.com (now The Mamasphere) as they got pregnant, had babies, discussed cool new baby gear and best of all introduced me to cloth diapers. Cloth diapering was never a thought when Sabreena and Shaun were little but all of a sudden all of my “friends” were doing it. I even joked about “If I ever get pregnant again I’m going to cloth diaper”. Well it happened and I kept my promise.

I spent months researching what was going to right for us. We started with prefolds and fitteds with covers then moved to pockets and All-in-Ones from so many different companies and WAHMs. I’ve had some old-faithfuls and some that didn’t last and some that needed a few months till the fit was right. I’m always on the search for a great fitting diaper and I found two from Happy Heinys, the One-Size Pocket Diaper and a regular Pocket Diaper. I always considered Happy Heinys to be one of the “brand name” cloth diapers but never got around to trying them, no particular reason

Itty Bitty Baby Bunz offered me the chance to test these two diapers side by side. I use other One-Size diapers and overall haven’t been impressed in the last several months. Shae is a bottom heavy baby, chunky thighs and full booty, so we often get some butt crack due to the too-short rise. The Happy Heinys One-Size was fantastic. When I first opened them I immediately noticed the super stretch and WIDE aplix closure. These diapers fit so good, I honestly didn’t think I could get such a good fit with a one-size, they say fits newborn to 35 pounds but we are already hovering 32lbs and I see potential in lasting till potty training. The fit is trim, the inner fleece is buttery soft and the Hot Pink color is vibrant. The One-Size comes with 2 inserts, a full size and a small for when the diaper is snapped in the newborn or small setting. I use the small on top of the large insert as extra protection during nap-time.

The sized Pocket Diaper has also be a great addition in the rotation. Again a very trim fit with full booty coverage, super soft inner and bright colors and an extra large pocket opening to make stuffing quick. I choose aplix closure for easy diaper changes for Rob and Sabreena, yes Shae can get them off but I can stop that with bloomers or shorts. I actually prefer the custom fit with aplix (Velcro) closures and Happy Heinys have some of the widest tabs I’ve seen and better yet they lay flat. This makes it a little harder for Shae to pull them off, there aren’t corners sticking up begging for her attention. The regular pocket diapers do not come with inserts; this allows you to choose the style/material insert you prefer and also the absorption level. I use inserts I’ve accumulated or trifolded microfiber towels and I’ll snag the small insert from the One-Size for naptime or another booster we have on hand. We don’t do cloth at bedtime since she’s such a heavy wetter but Happy Heinys say they have tested for up to 12 hours or more for bedtime, I’m not ready to try that yet, maybe when she’s closer to potty training.

I’m glad I finally got to try out Happy Heinys but sad I waited so long. She is almost 2; I could’ve had that much more time to enjoy the great fit and no leak goodness!

Are you interested in taking the leap into Cloth Diapering? Are you a seasoned CDer and want to experience a Happy Heiny for yourself? Itty Bitty Baby Bunz wants to give one of my readers a Happy Heiny Pocket Diaper.
