Unique Ornaments for Gifts

Gift giving for the holidays can often become a chore especially when the receiver is hard to shop for.  I know many of people like this in my life and the end result tends to be gift cards.  I don’t know about you but gift cards are my least favorite gift to buy.  I know they are practical and perfect for any situation but they are boring.  Here is a collection of gorgeous  and unique ornaments that don’t have to go on a Christmas tree.  They would work hanging in a window or from a shelf.  Take gift giving an extra step and use an ornament along with a gift tag for a spectacular presentation.

All of these choices come from Etsy and are handmade. This guarantees their individuality from big box store purchases.

Holiday Wishlist 2010-Simon & Lucy My Story Necklace Giveaway

Gift giving should be from the heart whether it’s Christmas, Mother’s Day or a Birthday. Give mom the gift of love and honor this Holiday Season with a My Story personalized necklace from Simon and Lucy.

simon and lucy my story necklace

I design and hand stamp a collection that I call: the My Story collection. I love to design a piece for a person that encompasses everything important to them from the past, present and perhaps the future. It’s a unique process that allows me to learn a little bit about the person I am designing for in order to design a necklace just for them. Even if you don’t know where to start, I do and I will help you through the process and make it relatively painless for you.

It’s quite magical when my clients see their necklace and they start reminiscing as they look at each charm. I LOVE it and so do they!

All pieces are one-of-a-kind and created with you in mind.

A My Story necklace is a custom piece of jewelry that tells your story, your journey, your life, your future. Included are the details closest to you; children’s names, birthdates, symbols and more. Earlier in the year I received my own My Story necklace; it included of course my kid’s names, my nieces, my parents, a blue crystal to symbolize my birthstone and a special pendant for my mother, a very special person on my life.

Handmade Halloween

I’m crafty but also really short on time so I leave the handmade goodness to the experts at Etsy. If you’re still looking for awesome Halloween costumes and décor stop by and see what these cool shops have to offer

Instant Dinosaur Costume
Pip and Bean produce oodles of cool costumes not just for Halloween either. My kids dress up everyday, so should yours

Too Many Tutus
I don’t need another tutu in this house but a tutu tote would be perfect for collecting Trick or Treat goodies. Naptime21 has a selection for every style princess you know.

Time for Tea
My mother collects teapots and those made from pottery are her favorite. This year she didn’t get one at our annual Art/Crafts Festival but I think this one would be a perfect addition anytime of the year.

Spiders Aren’t That Scary
Halloween isn’t complete without a creepy spider. Red Pine Designs are handmade using several techniques all of which produce beautiful pieces of stained glass.

Trying to follow Trends on Etsy

Etsy is one of my most favorite shopping sites. I admire the extreme talent of all the artists and crafters listed and try to support them as much as I can. I’m listing today a few trends that I really like but I doubt I could pull off.

Pretty Peacock Shop-peacock and organza flower headband
I LOVE these colors and the combo of the peacock feather and flower but I’m not sure I can confidently pull this off, I’m sure Sabreena could though.

A StashOlive-teal-brown crocheted and felted necklace with flower
Again the colors are drawing me in but I don’t know if the beads are something I can wear. The flower is absolutely beautiful and I’ve always been intrigued by the felting process.

MesTroisSoeursGeometric print leggings
The design and texture is cool and would look great with a tunic or long sweater but having short legs is a deterrent from wearing leggings or colored tights. These are something that Sabreena could easily pull off.

Etsy Finds-Circular Accessories, hand-screenprinted clothing and accessories

You can’t go wrong with inspiration is drawn from nature and other elements that surround you. Etsy shop Circular Accessories is chock full of simple but beautiful designs motivated by designer Alison’s environment. Each piece is unique, original and special enough to be worn by women everywhere.

Great with jeans and a tee or coupled with a comfy sweater for cool winter days this extra long grey scarf is handprinted with a red bird on a Sakura branch. $22

I’m not a dress wearer so I would add this over a pair of leggings and sandals for a fabulous spring or summer outfit, gotta love the goldfish. $38

This is totally up Sabreena’s alley. She is my tshirt and jeans girl and can always be found with a hoodie. The owls look angry but they are cute on this top. The fit would look perfect on Sabreena! $35

Etsy Finds-holding on to summer

Tomorrow is Back-to-School for our kids, that means the unofficial end of summer. That also means I’m going to try my hardest to hold onto summer for as long as possible. Etsy is my place to go to find all kinds of things for any theme. These are a few things that I found that really remind me of what summer is all about.

Imagine Glass Studio has this fabulous watermelon serving dish.  Serve up a juicy sweet fruit salad in this sweet brightly colored glass dish.

Nothing says summer to kids like dandelions blowing in the wind.  Paper Moth produces striking illustrations with a contemporary feel.  This one is titled Early Summer Evening.

The Seabreeze Locket Necklace  from Bina Geyer would go perfect with that fabulous summer dress for a walk on the beach or night on the town with the girls.

Embellished Bayou gifts for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is closer than I thought. I would now consider this last minute shopping. The thing about last minute shopping is you usually end up settling for something rather than getting something meaningful and from the heart. Embellished Bayou can solve that problem for you. Keep it simple and sweet with a decorated frame that says “The Girls “or “Family”. Include the latest snapshot of your children or all the siblings and you have an instant treasure.

Want something more unique? An 6″x6″ antique ceiling tin adorned with ribbons and rhinestones makes for an eye-catching wall or door hanging. Choose an initial or graphic or word to coordinate with any décor.

Christy of Embellished Bayou says she started her Etsy shop after making a couple of gifts for a friend and receiving great positive feedback. I often see things for sale in retail stores and think “I can make that!”. By making it myself, I am able to customize the item to my specifications, plus I take great pride in having creating something myself.

If you are looking for a one of a kind gift for a one of a kind woman, Embellished Bayou has you covered. Visit this Etsy shop for a wide variety of embellished frames, wall hangings and cute ducky glycerin soaps.

Etsy Finds-Yellow like the Sun

I’m using the past few days of FANTABULOUS weather as inspiration. The sun was shining, the kids were outside playing and the central air was running.

How GORGEOUS would this bright pendant look over a white tee and jeans. The Sunflower Freckles Necklace is an original illustration adhered to a lightweight wooden pendant and comes with an 18inch sterling silver serpentine chain. Lonesome Road Studio will donate 10% of the purchase price to Vanishing Bees, an organization researching the disappearance of the Honey Bee.

Sweet and Simple. This explains this handbag exactly. This BagsbyCollette pleated bag is made with Heather Bailey Freshcut Floral Finery Curry and Amy Butler Lotus Full Moon Polka Dot designer materials for a quality look. Big enough for date night necessites this bag is casual enough for a big-screen movie and stylish enough for Cosmos with the girls.

Who wouldn’t want to hang their simple terrycloth bathrobe on this spectacular Mosaic Wall Hook. Maybe you’d prefer to use this for house keys or purses or a sweater. This would look great in my bedroom so I would use it for my robe. Handmade by Smashgirl, from a yellow floral dinner plate this is a bright accent that would look great in any room.

What man wouldn’t look sexy with this Think Positive buckle peeking out from his shirt. Antiqued nickel over an original image is a bold but stylish accesory for men and women.
Every baby needs a luxurious blanket for early morning stroller walks. LottieLouDesigns brings together soft and comfy minky with Heather Bailey designer material to produce a colorful blankie any parent would love to cover their child with.

Paired with simple brown sandals or worn over skinny jeans this Cathedral Flowers slip dress is a perfect addition to your summer wardrobe. Made from remnants and vintage materials this makes for a “green” garment. Green is always good!

I hope you enjoyed all of my yellow picks today. Visit these Etsy artists and others. I love the amazing talent in these shops and keep checking in, I’ll have other “themes” to discuss.

Jellybean Apparel-Etsy Find

My pregnant sister is in for a rude awakening if he thinks she’s going to find super cute maternity clothes in her regular stores. I mean simple tees and jeans and dresses are easy to find but she’s going to want hip and fun clothing to show off her bump. JellyBeanApparel makes the stuff my sister is going to want.
These are my 2 faves for my sister!

I even love that they have hysterical daddy tees. My brother-in-law needs this one, it even comes in Phillies colors LOL.

Now comes the task of picking one out to buy for her.

The Bashful Sheep

I live for accessories, that and baby shoes. I love hats, bags, socks and SCARVES. I just got the greatest present, a knitted scarf in yummy chocolate brown. I’m not talking a regular old boring winter scarf, I’m talking a looooong silky soft furry wrap around your neck for the heck of it scarf. Stacia has been knitting for quite a while now and is finally offering her handmade goods at The Bashful Sheep on Etsy. (pardon my clothes, I’m on my way to work out)

One of my very first blog posts was about dryer balls. I went ahead and made some, they came out ok but The Bashful Sheep put mine to shame. Seriously who thought laundry aids could be so cute. I got 2 gorgeous Kelly green polka dot dryer balls. When I took them out of the packaging I thought I lost them forever as Shae immediately took them out of my hands and walked away from me.

If you are not familiar with dryer balls in general they help decrease drying time and help naturally soften clothing. Since they are made with 100% wool they are a natural, chemical free “green” alternative to commercial dryer sheets.

Check out The Bashful Sheep’s cute dryer ball designs and luxurious scarves. Keep an eye out, she plans on restocking soon and will also take custom orders.
