Save Your Monopoly Token

When you play a game of MONOPOLY do you always use the same token? Ask just about anyone and you’ll find most people have a strong opinion when it comes to their token preference. But now the fate of these iconic eight tokens rests in the hands of fans around the world. One token will be retired for good, and a new one will take its place and find MONOPOLY token fame based on a vote at www.Facebook.com/Monopoly.

I’m always the top hat and Shae likes the Scottie Dog.  I would hate to see either of these go.

Scottie Dog

The five new tokens up for consideration are: the diamond ring, guitar, toy robot, cat, and helicopter.

Guitar, new monopoly piece Ring

I do like the Diamond Ring idea and the kids would love the Guitar or Toy Robot though.

Family Game Night with Suspend plus #giveaway

Family Game Night used to be the norm in our house. Those days have become a bit scarce lately. We have busy schedules and even the kids just want some down time vegging in front of the tv or playing video games. But sometimes there comes a game that gets the kids to turn off the tv and pull up some carpet. Suspend from Melissa and Doug is that game right now. It’s a simple game of steady hands and balance.
suspend game from melissa and doug

Suspend comes with 24 notched, rubber-tipped wire pieces to hang from a tabletop stand. Sound easy? Try adding another piece! Each time a bar is added, the balance shifts, the difficulty changes and the incredible midair sculpture transforms. Can you add all your game pieces without making it fall? This tricky game for 1-4 players is a test of steady nerves and steady hands.

Suspend was delivered late one afternoon and it was played for anhour that very night. It’s become the go to game for those “I’m bored” moments because it’s something all 3 of the kids can play at the same time. The recommendations say for kids age 8 and up but after an explanation of the rules and directions Shae was playing just as well as the others.

This game takes up very little space to store and to play. It can easily be something you pack for vacations or sleepovers with the grandparents.

UNO Roboto Is The New Way To Play Uno

UNO is the game that seems to be played most in our house but now regular UNO may be replaced with UNO Roboto.  We recently received UNO Roboto for review and it is a pretty cool game that takes UNO to a whole new level. Looking for a new way to play Uno? Check out UNO Roboto – the latest game from the makers of the classic card game. With an aviator betway-themed twist, UNO Roboto is sure to be a hit with everyone.

UNO Roboto is played like regular UNO where each player is dealt seven cards but that may be where the similarities end.  UNO Roboto makes every player record his or her name and also asks if you want to select a house rule which is optional and can be made up by you if you want or you can use the suggestions that are provided.  Some of the house rules that are provided with UNO Roboto are meow like cat and a real mouth full where you can talk like a pirate or a cowboy.  There are a more options provided but these two are my favorite.  The House Rules are done when UNO Roboto tells you to perform your house rule and whoever does it last has to draw two cards.  Another cool thing about UNO Roboto is at times when instructed you get to exchange your cards with the player you are told to exchange with.  When I played this worked more against me then it did for me but that is ok because I had a blast playing.  UNO Roboto will surprise you by calling out Random Rules and funny phrases that change the way you play.

If you are accustom to playing regular UNO you should give UNO Roboto a try.  It takes what is already a cool game and makes it a really funny game that is great to play with kids, family members or friends at a party.

UNO Roboto comes with 1 UNO Roboto figure, 108 cards and instructions and is recommended for ages 7-11 years.

Also, Mattel has an awesome promotion with Toys ‘R’ Us for a free Shutterfly photo album with any games purchased between now and the end of the year.  For further details click HERE.

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of UNO Roboto and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Playing Indoors in the Summer

When it’s too hot to actually venture outside what do you and the kids end up doing? Watching TV, playing on the computer, eating? While there is nothing wrong with any of these I prefer to engage the kids with something more entertaining and lively. Lately board games have been Shae’s favorite thing to do. Candy Land, Guess Who, Uno (I know, it’s not a board game) and Hungry Hungry Hippos are her lastest faves. Mix that in with crafts, puzzles, outings and the iPad our day is pretty solidly packed.

But when we got the opportunity to review some fun Nickelodeon Character games and toys the kids were thrilled. Dora’s Carousel Adventure Playset was perfect for my niece Madi. She’s recently fell in love with Dora on the television so I knew she’d take to Dora in her hands. The cute Dora figure came along with colorful accessories that included a carousel horse.

My kids have been enjoying Dora Candyland and Spongebob Hangman. The hangman game has been helping Shaun with his spelling and Candyland is always a great color and counting teacher.

How are you spending those rainy or too hot to bear summer days with the kids?

Ready To Play Some Hockey With Rinksters?

I am a huge fan of hockey and am pretty excited to talk about Rinksters from Visimonde.

Rinksters is a Hockey-themed Virtual World aimed at children ages 6 to 12.  Rinksters allows players to customize their own avatar, play games, build trading cards, collect coinage, chat with buddies, and skate through an ice-covered world.

For parents who are like myself and worry every time there kids are online playing a game rest assure that Rinksters is safe and secure creating a worry free zone for parents.

Rinksters is going to be presented at Startup Edmonton on November 17th as Visimonde was selected as one of the ten hottest startups in town for Launch Party Edmonton 2.

The public launch of the game will be early next year, but people who sign up at Rinksters.com right now are eligible to receive free stuff and test the beta version of the game, which will launch in December.  To me that is awesome because I am all about playing a game before it is even released to the general public.

Head over to Rinksters.com and get signed up now so you don’t miss out on any information on this awesome game!

Also, be sure to visit Rinksters on Twitter and Facebook.

Need to Get My Priorities In Order

Yesterday was a day where everyone stayed in and did nothing.  When I say nothing I mean no running around doing errands or things like that.

Shae and I played this:

And after dinner Shaun and I built this:

In case you couldn’t tell from the top picture Shae and I played Candyland. I told her I would play Hi Ho Cherrio but that didn’t work, LOL. Shaun also hounded me all morning to make the Solar Rover that he got yesterday and FINALLY we did.

Today made me realize I do not spend enough time with the kids just playing and having fun with them.  Between work, the blog, Cub Scouts and life the kids playtime with me seems to come last.  In reality they should be a priority and not last on the list.  Today was an eye opener for me and made me realize where my priorities need to be.

Holiday Wishlist 2010 – Magic Cabin $50 Giveaway

Little kids toys should be entertaining but also educational but of course not over stimulating. Magic Cabin is a go-to source for just these products. Magic Cabin has been guided by the simple notion that children’s lives are enriched by ample time for open-ended, creative, imaginative play.

We are a fan of these type of toys, toys that don’t require batteries, toys that require kid-power and toys whose play isn’t dictated by a character on tv. Yes we love our electronics and gadgets and video games but we also love our downtime play where imaginations are used and the sky is the limit.

I’ve known about Magic Cabin for many years as the Fairy place. These fairies are cherished by children all over and for good reason they are handcrafted and adorable. The dolls and Kathe Kruse® of Germany are all lovingly made to last a lifetime of hugs and cuddles.

We got the chance to review a couple baby & toddler toys for my nieces. The Stacking Cups are soft enough for the littlest ones but sturdy enough for the little learners and who doesn’t love a gnome.

Wooden pull toys were always Shae’s favorite, that’s why we choose the Holgate Mail Truck Shape Sorter as a gift for one of the 1 year olds. It’s chunky shapes fit well into her hands and the lid pops off for easy access.

UNO turns Pinkatastic

Pinkalicious is a work we are very aware of. Having a 3 year old girly girl in the house makes that possible. Pinkalicious is a book written about and for little girls who are obsessed with PINK, cupcakes, dress-up and princesses. Does that sound familiar? Shae is our Pinklicious-aholic.

For the holiday the Pinkalicious brand is offering tons of fun choices not only for the pink ones but for the entire family too.  Since we are a game playing family and UNO is one of our oldies but goodies Pinkalicious UNO is a great choice.

UNO turns Pinkatastic with this Pinkalicious version of the classic card game! 112 custom cards feature your favorite Pinkalicious characters and cupcakes. Same great UNO play PLUS the exclusive Pinkalicious card and rule. UNO has never been so pink!! Includes collectors tin.

This is going to be the perfect stocking stuffer for Shae that she can play with everyone. Shop at Barnes & Noble, Borders or Amazon for this and other fun Pinkalicious products.

Cranium Game Scribblish

You’re never too old to play games! Hasbro has just introduced a new Cranium game; Scribblish, just in time for the holidays.

Grab your pencils and get ready to giggle. Cranium Scribblish is a hilarious new game that’s like a cool mashup of the old schoolyard favorite, “The Telephone Game” and Pictionary. Simple, outrageous, and a ton of fun. Everyone chooses a caption and draws a picture. You all then take turns adding drawings or captions. At the end can you guess which picture was yours when you started? Which one is funniest? Vote for your favorite to win!

CRANIUM SCRIBBLISH includes:

  • Six scrolls, 60 cards, timer, pad, die, tokens and instructions.
  • Includes 2 “cell” batteries.
  • Game play approx 20 minutes
  • For 4-6 players
  • Ages 8 and up.

Shaun isn’t a very good drawer so this wouldn’t be a good game for him but I’m sure my brother and sister in-law would love it. And since it’s a Cranium game you know it’s guaranteed to be fun and appropriate for the entire family.

Visit Facebook for an exclusive $2 coupon to purchase your own Cranium game or win Cranium Scribblish for your own family here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Cranium and tell me another game you’ve tried or would like to try.
