Back to School with Lunchopolis Giveaway

The kids go back to school soon and with that comes better meal planning for lunch time. Lunchopolis lunchbox by Enviro Products sent us 2 systems to review to ensure they take along healthy food choices in a safe and convenient way.

I prefer fruit and veggies for snacks but often toss in yogurt, pudding, granola bars, cheese and crackers as additional options and treats for the kids. This systems give me container sizes that are perfect for lots of choices or the option to not use the containers for the times things are prepackaged. My only upgrade idea would be to fit in a small cup for dip, dressing or peanut butter. My kids like apples and peanut butter but there isn’t an easy way to transport it.

This system is perfect for adults too. The sandwich box is perfect for leftovers or a salad and the smaller containers keep healthy non-vending machine options right at your fingertips. Shop for Lunchopolis insultated lunchbox systems at New Wave Enviro. Keep the planet clean and green with less waste and trash.

WIN your own Lunchopolis lunchbox by Enviro Products by telling me a healthy lunch option for kids.

HALO Bars Recap and Giveaway

Recently Melinda and I discovered that dairy reeks havoc on Shae’s body and have been on the lookout for snacks and snack bars that she can consume that won’t upset her stomach and luckily HALO bars came our way.

HALO Bars are dairy and vegan free and are certified organic. They are low in sugar, all natural and contain only 150 calories. All of these are things make me happy as a parent and allow me not to feel guilty when I give these to my kids as a snack. Not only are they a healthy snack but will hold them over until their next meal allowing them to consume less sugary snacks during the day. Anything that allows my kids to consume less sugar in a day is a great thing in my book.

Although there are lots of organic, nutritious ingredients in HALO bars, the primary sugar we use is organic brown rice syrup. In contrast to typical sugars like corn syrup, brown rice syrup has a low glycemic value and does not cause a sudden spike in blood sugar after consuming it. This is because the sugar profile in this syrup is 50% soluble carbohydrates, 45% maltose and 3% glucose. The glucose is immediately absorbed and metabolized, maltose takes from 1-1.5 hours, and soluble carbohydrates take 2-3 hours to be metabolized. This results in a constant supply of energy spread over a long time rather than a sudden rush. HALO bars have zero trans fats or partially hydrogenated oils.

HALO Bars come in four awesome flavors: Rocky Road, S’Mores, Honey Graham and Nutty Marshmallow. I have not tried these personally but Melinda and the kids have and they love them. The kids get a great tasting snack that they can enjoy with out all of the sugar, fat and bad stuff that your normal snack may contain. We typically will take the HALO Bars when we go to the pool and it holds the kids over until dinner.

I know I keep going on about the healthiness of the HALO Bar but if you are a parent you know exactly why I feel so strongly about this. Until I was asked to analyse  the HALO Bars I had no idea they existed but I am glad that I do now.

One lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader will have the chance to win their own box of HALO Bars. If you want to win a box of HALO Bars head over to Pro Bar and tell me what flavor you would love to try.

If you don’t win, PROBAR is glad to extend a one-time 40% discount for all of our readers. All you have to do is shop at Pro Bar and enter the code BLOGGER upon checkout.

Monster Trucks Rule

Shaun and I went to our first Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam truck show in Philadelphia back in June and are lucky enough to be going again in July to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, MD.

Since this was our first time attending I had no idea what to expect other then it being loud but Shaun and I had a blast. We got to meet the drivers and see the trucks close up at the Pit Pass Party before the show which was super cool. There was a ton of stuff to do at the Pit Pass Party that kept us entertained for the three hours before the show. Once we got inside that is when the real action began. Have you ever seen a 12 foot high by 12 foot wide truck with over 2000-horsepower jump and race around a dirt track? If not you need to attend an Advance Auto Parts show because you are truly missing out.

For the first time ever the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam “Havoc in the Harbor” show will be at the M&T Bank Stadium starting at 7:30pm. With every ticket purchased you get access to the Pit Party from 2:30-5:30 which is awesome. Another reason I am excited to be attending the show in Baltimore is Travis Pastrana from the MTV hit Nitro Circus will be driving the Nitro Circus truck which should be pretty sweet.

Here is the Truck Line-Up for the Baltimore show:

  1. Grave Digger ®
  2. Maximum Destruction®
  3. AAP Grinder™
  4. Monster Mutt® Dalmatian
  5. Air Force Afterburner®
  6. Lucas Oil Crusader™
  7. El Toro Loco®
  8. Grave Digger the Legend™
  9. Nitro Circus
  10. Avenger
  11. Brutus
  12. Backdraft
  13. Son UVA Digger®
  14. Superman™
  15. Captain’s Curse®
  16. Ironman

Needless to say Shaun and I are excited to have a chance to attend this show and are excited to see Nitro Circus, Ironman and Superman as they were not at the show that we attended in Philly.

Want to hear something cool. Look What Mom Found…and Dad too is giving one lucky winner a four pack of tickets to attend this show in Baltimore, MD ONLY!!!!! Your tickets will also include entrance into the Pit Party from 2:30pm – 5:30pm. All you need to do is head over to Monster Jam and tell me what truck and driver is your favorite.

If you don’t win the 4 pack of tickets you can still attend the event for a great price. When you go to this Ticketmaster page to purchase seats for Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam at M&T Bank Stadium July 9, you can use the code CRUSH to save adult seats for just $15!

Need New Trimmers? Look No Further

I have had a goatee for at least ten years and have been through numerous trimmers. Some probably due to cheap quality others due to the fact that I spent only ten dollars but finally I have a pair of trimmers that I think are going to last me a long time, the i-Stubble from Conair.

Right out of the box I could tell that the i-Stubble was a quality trimmer due to its features and weight. I will admit at first I couldn’t figure out how to use them but after some reading and playing they are pretty simple to use and do an awesome job.

Product Features

  • Unique floating contouring head tracks the curves of your face for effortless accuracy and comfort
  • Motorized length control with ultra precise adjustments from 0.4 mm to 5.0 mm for ultimate accuracy
  • Advanced blade technology with electro-chemically sharpened blades for sharpness and durability
  • Rechargeable dual battery power system delivers superior performance, plugs into bathroom shaver socket
  • Designed to last with sturdy ergonomic shape, protective comb guide and 3 year guarantee

Some of my favorite features are the motorized length control, ease of use and usage length.  Beware, use the longest setting first while trimming and adjust accordingly to the length you are use to.  The length on the i-Stubble will not be the same that you are currently using on your trimmers. Trust me I found out the hard way.  Like I mentioned before after the first run with the i-Stubble they are super simple to use and I like that they last forever on a charge.  Granted I trim my goatee once or twice a week but they are still running on their initial charge from over a month ago.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the i-Stubble from Conair and would definitely suggest them to any man that has a beard, mustache or goatee.  After you use them once you will wonder what took you so long to try them out.

Monkey See Monkey Doo

Our kids as well as Melinda and I are fans of the Carnival Games series for Wii and were pretty excited when we heard about Carnival Games: Monkey See Monkey Do for the Xbox 360 Kinect and thankfully were offered a copy for review.

Carnival Games: Monkey See Monkey Do has 20 awesome games like fling rings, pop darts, test your strength and many more. I thought the test your strength game was pretty cool on the Kinect since you swing like you have a hammer in your hands even though you don’t. This is definitely a game for the whole family and an awesome way for the whole family to come together on a Friday night and have a great time.

Key Features:

  • Step right up for a kooky carnival atmosphere with mini games designed exclusively for the motion-sensing Kinect (not included)
  • Jump into the full-body action of 20 party-style games that are fun for players of all ages
  • Try your hand at wacky midway challenges, including Ring Fling, Funnel Cake Falls, Rocket to Mars, Crash-Test Dummy, Pop Darts and more
  • • Re-experience some of your favorite boardwalk classics like Alley Ball, Strength Test, Court King, Golden Arm and Wheel of Chance
  • Voice recognition technology allows The Amazing Wodin to reveal your future, tell you a riddle and present you with a personal wizard name
  • Be crowned the winner to score interactive prizes and surprises abound
  • Take home dragons, robot cowboys, flying bears, ninjas and wacky wearables to dress up your Xbox Live Avatar
  • Kinect motion sensor required; not included
  • For 1 to 2 players

Shaun and eight other kids played this at his birthday party and had a blast. It provided hours of entertainment and the kids were really enjoying this game. To me Carnival Games is one the best entertainment games out there and if you know anyone with the Kinect you should definitely recommend this game to them.

Firebirds – Awesome Family Friendly Restaurant

If you love your food cooked over hardwood flames like Melinda and I do then you need to check out Firebirds Wood Fired Grill.

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill introduced a taste of Colorado to the Carolinas when it first opened its doors in Charlotte, North Carolina in December of 2000. The restaurant is the creative concept of owner and restaurateur, Dennis Thompson, who regularly travels out west. He fell in love with the feel of the area as well as the food. Drawing from those experiences, he developed Firebirds.

Melinda and I discovered Firebirds maybe 6-8 months ago after a friend mentioned they went there for dinner and that the food and atmosphere were terrific. Melinda and I now try to go to Firebirds at least once a month if only for Happy Hour. Firebirds has awesome Happy Hour food and drink specials. Firebirds does it right on every level so if you live near a Firebirds Wood Fire Grill be sure to stop in for Happy Hour and dinner.

Firebirds menu is to die for. They have a vast selection of items from burgers and sandwiches to wood fire grill items and even an awesome kids menu. Melinda and I will endorse any restaurant that has a good kids menu for Shaun and Shae and Firebirds does it right. Shaun and Shae ordered the kids burgers and when their meal came out the burgers were HUGE. I was expecting a small dinky burger but I was happily mistaken. Sabreena was extremely happy with her fish selection while Melinda and I were both delighted with our steaks. I do not eat steak very often but I ordered the Blue Cheese Filet and thought I died and went to heaven.

I love Firebirds for the food and atmosphere. At first when Melinda and I went it didn’t seem to be a restaurant that we would take our kids to but after we did we realized we were totally wrong. They cater to everyone and really take care of the kids so Firebirds in now on our list of family friendly restaurants. The servers and staff are extremely friendly and cater to your ever need which makes dining at Firebirds a great experience.

If you live near one of the many Firebirds Wood Fired Grill locations do yourself a favor and be sure to stop in for drinks, lunch or dinner. You will leave an extremely happy person.

Want to check out Firebirds for yourself? If so you are in luck. Firebirds is giving one luck Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! winner a $50 gift card (alcohol not included). Just head over to Firebirds and tell me what you would order if you won the $50 gift card.

Cleaning Toilets Is Not My Job

Spring is here folks so that means sunshine, more day light and spring cleaning. Something about the house being closed up all winter makes spring cleaning seem necessary. I don’t mind cleaning for the most part but my two least favorite things to clean are the toilets and showers but thankfully I received a Clorox ToiletWand for review so now I only hate cleaning the showers.

The Clorox ToiletWand features a disposable head loaded with Clorox cleaner which covers more surface area of the bowl as well as below the rim. This system is nice because once you are done cleaning the toilet you push the button and dispose of the cleaning head and then all you do is store the wand in the provided holder.  The one thing you need to be sure of is not to flush the cleaning head down the toilet but to dispose of it in the trash can. I really like the Clorox ToiletWand because you no longer need to store a gross bacteria filled toilet brush in the bathroom. Now all you need to do it use the toiletWand, dispose of the cleaning head and store the handle back in the provided holder. It’s that easy even a man can do it, LOL. Next time you are at the store pick up a Clorox ToiletWand starter kit. You will be glad you did and wonder how you went so long without it.

Click HERE for a $3.00 off Clorox ToiletWand starter kit coupon.

Win your own Clorox Bathroom Essentials ToiletWand prize pack including a ToiletWand, bathroom rug, toilet decal, and toilet paper holder.  All you need to do is tell me who typically cleans your bathroom (be honest).

New Skate Shoes from Heelys

Helmet. Check! Knee pads. Check! Elbow pads. Check! Health Insurance. Check! We’ve got our bases covered so now Shaun can finally enjoy his Heelys skate shoes. He’s been asking for these for YEARS but I’ve always said no, saying he was too young, too careless, too accident prone. Honestly though nothing has changed but I thought it was time for me to stop being such a downer so I gave in.

Shaun received Heelys Double Threat shoes. These shoes are made to be low profile, comfortable and most of all FUN.

Heelys became a phenomenon a couple years ago but I hated them. Kids rolling around in stores, malls, hallways and sidewalks not paying any attention others; I just wanted to trip them. I’ve cheered up a little and blamed the bad behavior on the parents. Shaun won’t be allowed to wear them anywhere but outside.

I realize now that Heelys can be really great for outdoor activities and having fun. Shaun can head to the dog park with my parents and get pulled along by the poodles. Recently Heelys introduced the new Nano; a patented shoe bracket to give wearers a skateboard feel and look.

This option gives wearers the ability to skate faster, longer and farther than with just the traditional one-wheeled Heely.

Rain Boots go with Everything

Dress up and imagination play are the biggest parts of Shae’s daily play time. When it’s time to leave the house it isn’t always convenient or appropriate to take that with us. Kidorable now lets her bring her newest stories along for the ride.

The Fairy Collection is adorable and perfectly girly and sweet. With a foot of snow on the ground Shae is wearing her rain boots with confidence that her feet won’t get wet. The bright yellow, pink and green colors match almost everything she wears; not that being mismatched would stop her anyway. The matching umbrella has the cutest fairy wings on top and is a perfect bell shape to keep her dry. Toddlers aren’t the best at handling umbrellas but its lightweight design helps keep it upright with ease.

Shop Kidorable for any and every kid you know. Styles range from fireman to mermaid to space hero to ballerina. Don’t think the selection stops at raingear either. Kidorable now has winter gear, bath accessories, room décor and more available. We’ve been shopping Kidorable since Shaun was little and have always been very pleased with their quality, fun styles and of course all the great comments and smiles we get out and about all dressed up.

It’s So Fluffy I Could Die

That’s my kid’s favorite line in the movie Despicable Me. We had the opportunity to see the movie in 3D before it was released back in July and we loved it!

In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden deep beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by an army of tireless, little yellow Minions, we discover Gru (Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon. Yes, the moon!

Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad.

One of the world’s greatest super-villains has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.

Despicable Me was released on December 14th on Blu-ray & DVD. It was a must get on our holiday shopping and has proved to be the most popular gift of the season. For about the 1st 2 weeks it was on about two or three times a day. We’ve cut it down to every other day now but it’s still a favorite of everyone’s in the house.

We were able to get the 3 Disc Combo pack which includes the Blu-ray copy, DVD and Digital copy perfect for iTunes. Along with watching the feature film this copy includes 3 mini movies starring the Minions. Anyone remember Walter the minion, we took him to the beach for a little vacay the Shae tried to drown him in a bucket. The extra bonus features have proved to be a hit too! Shae likes to play Super Silly Fun Land and win prizes along with Edith, Agnes and Margo.

If you haven’t already got Despicable Me in your movie library I highly recommend it!
