“Some people here (in the US) think they don’t have to breastfeed”. “And I think ‘Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?’ I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.”
The words heard around the world that sent mom’s everywhere into a tizzy. I (as in me) think her statement was made through the pure joy she’s experiencing as a 1st time mother and shouting from the rooftops how wonderful everything is but maybe just not worded quite right and received even worse. Breastfeeding is baby’s most perfect food, we all know this but the act of breastfeeding is such a personal and emotional decision.
I tried, I seriously tried to breastfeed each kid. With Sabreena it lasted a about 3 days, Shaun lasted about 2 days and Shae did it once. The lactation nurse could see the fear on my face and just knew not to push the issue. My problem was me, my anxiety overtook my body. The stress of “doing it right” was too much for me to handle so I just stopped.
That was my decision, and I’m fine with it. My sister breastfed for a little while, it didn’t work out, she stopped and I’m fine with it. I’m in no place to pass my opinion on to anyone else about what is going to work for their life.
Gisele apparently had an easy pregnancy, easy delivery and has been smooth sailing through breastfeeding. Fantastic for her, but don’t make other moms feel bad about our different choices. Come on mommies, let’s support each other!
