Climb for a Cause, clean drinking water with PUR and GIVEAWAY-CLOSED

Clean water is definitely something we take for granted. Every day, 4,000 children in developing countries die from illness and disease related to unsafe drinking water. Since 2004, PŪR and the CSDW (Children’s Safe Drinking Water) Program have worked together to prevent water-related diseases with tiny packets of PŪR water purification powder which, developed by a P&G engineer, can transform potentially deadly water into clear, purified drinking water within 30 minutes. The CSDW Program and its partners distribute these PŪR sachets throughout the world and, to-date, have delivered over 1.6 billion liters of clean drinking water to those in need.

January 7th marked the start of SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT; a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro in hopes of raising worldwide awareness about this critical need for clean drinking water. The climb will be spotlighted by celebrities and musical artists such as; Jessica Biel, Alexandra Cousteau and Lupe Fiasco and Dr Greg Algood (founder of CSDW.org) acting as the team’s water expert. In addition to scaling Mt. Kilimanjaro, the climbers will be visiting a nearby village in Arusha, Tanzania where Dr. Allgood will show them, firsthand, the toll the global water crisis is taking on communities around the world, as well as the relief efforts being used to help.

Procter & Gamble’s PŪR Water Filtration has joined forces with SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT to raise awareness about the need for clean drinking water in the developing world and funds for life-saving water programs. By simply using a PŪR Water Filtration system you can remove many of the common contaminants found in regular drinking water. Also switching from bottled water to filtered water and a reusable bottle can save one person up to $600 a year and eliminate up to 3,200 plastic bottles.

How can you help?
1 System = 1 Week: For every PŪR Water Filtration system purchase, one week of clean drinking water is provided to a child in the developing world through CSDW. To-date, CSDW has already provided 1.8 billion liters of clean water to children and their families around the world. Every PUR system purchase provides 10 liters of clean drinking water to children in the developing world through the CSDW (Children’s Safe Drinking Water) Program.Join the clean drinking water cause by purchasing a PŪR pitcher or faucet mount system, which donates a week’s worth of clean drinking water to a small child in a developing country.

Spread the word! Show some support!

Many years ago my father stricken with Giardia, a water borne infection that affects the intestines. While he’s ok today he went through hell for 2 weeks with dehydration, abdominal pain, kidney shutdown and hospitalization. He didn’t visit an undeveloped country, he didn’t drink from a lake or stream, he took a sip from an office building water fountain. Clean water is a necessity for everyone.

Win a PŪR pitcher to keep your family safe from the contaminants that lurk around us everyday. Visit Summit on the Summit and DO SOMETHING. Sign up for the newsletter, Grab a banner or badge, Follow the climbers, Get involved! Tell me what you did to show your support for this cause.

See Kai Run "Share a Pair" events donates 2,400 paris of shoes

During this season of giving, See Kai Run, popular manufacturer of the perfect first shoe for new walkers, is making sure that for every pair of shoes sold during November at its retail Web site (http://www.seekairun.com/), a pair also goes to a child in need. As a result of the matching event which ended November 30, 2009, See Kai Run will donate nearly 2,500 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls before the year’s end.

Soles4Souls is an international charity dedicated to providing footwear to disadvantaged people around the world. Their global efforts primarily target orphanages throughout Central and South America, Europe and Africa. According to Soles4Souls, over 300 million children world-wide have never had one pair of shoes. With this donation, See Kai Run will have shared a total of over 36,000 pairs of shoes to children who need them the most. “Share A Pair” is part of See Kai Run’s overall charitable giving campaign, which focuses on international, national, and local charities for children. See Kai Run would like to thank its customers for making donations such as these possible.

About See Kai Run
See Kai Run and Smaller promote healthy development of babies’ and children’s feet with their ultra-flexible soles, soft leather and wide toe box. Our footwear meets the American Podiatric Medical Association’s rigorous standards for foot health and functionality and has been awarded the APMA’s prestigious Seal of Acceptance. Retail price starts at $32.

See Kai Run is a family-owned and operated business located outside of Seattle, Washington. The idea was born when founder Cause Haun was on a quest for the perfect first pair of shoes for her son, Kai. Unable to find shoes in fun styles that still promoted the healthy development of little feet, Cause and her husband created their own line of shoes that satisfied all these needs. See Kai Run celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and proudly looks back at their expansion from a few boutiques, mostly in the Seattle area, to stores all around the country and worldwide. Please visit www.seekairun.com for additional information.

About Soles4Souls
Soles4Souls facilitates the donation of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. Everyone from shoe companies to retailers and individuals can donate footwear (both new and used). The Soles4Souls team has used the gift of shoes in the relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. More than 900,000 pairs were collected for these disasters. Ronald McDonald House Charities is in it for the families

The Ronald McDonald House is a home away from home for families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children receiving treatment at area hospitals by offering nurturing and supportive environments where families can stay together and find comfort. The Wilmington, DE House is a home complete with comfy guest rooms, fully equipped kitchens, playrooms, teen room, theater, salon, fitness center, pet therapy dogs, free cooked dinner, stocked pantry and so much more. There isn’t anything they have forgotten to make these family the most comfortable they can be in the stressful situation they are in. I watched it become a simple 27 room house to a 50 room state of the art masterpiece. This was made possible by the amazing efforts that raised $5.8M.

I became familiar with Ronald McDonald House Charities about 4-5 years ago. I volunteered 1 day a week for a few hours. My duties included cleaning the kitchen, taking guests to their room, fetching clean towels or sheets if needed, talking to families who needed an ear, accepting dropped off donations and really anything that needed to be done. Ronald McDonald House Charities does have an employed staff but without volunteers they couldn’t provide the level of service that has come to be expected not only in Wilmington, DE but at the almost 300 Ronald McDonald houses around the world.

In all the stress, heartache, pain and anxiety related to caring for sick child there can be a glimmer of hope. The Turnerwagnerbeitzlehmkuhlewydoherty family is evidence of that.

The amazing story of the Turners, Wagners, Beitzes, Lehmkuhls, Ewys and Dohertys began in the fall of 2000, when six women gave birth to seven premature infants. As often happens, complications arose and the babies required long and often difficult hospital stays. To be close to the hospital, all of the families moved into the nearby Ronald McDonald House in Wichita.

It was there that an unbreakable bond began to form. Six families, all going through the same ordeal, came to rely on one another. There was always a shoulder to cry on, a hug to be found or a few simple words to get someone through a bad day. No one ever gave up hope because no one ever felt alone.

And every year since, all six families meet for a very special reunion. Smiles and hugs are the order of the day as six families and seven very happy and healthy children renew a very special friendship.

A friendship that would not have been formed without your help.

Read this story from one of the mothers

Take a moment and think about what you can do for others in your area. Stop by your local Ronald McDonald House, apply to volunteer, drop off some groceries, visit McDonalds for a cheeseburger and drop your change into the donation box or work with your community or employer to volunteer as a group and cook a hot delicious meal for these families in need. All donations made by December 31 will be matched by an anonymous donor from the Ray Kroc Heritage Society (to a total of $1 million). Plus, many companies match charitable donations as well. Search to see if your employer does, and your donation could really add up!

Everyday Minerals Cosmetics-Closed

As a SAHM I don’t get many chances primp and pamper myself. What I do love and consider special time alone is when it’s time to apply make-up for date night or hanging out with friends. I made the switch a couple years ago to mineral makeup and I’m hooked. I love the natural feel and look I get from just using a handful of products.

The 2nd mineral company I went to was Everyday Minerals. I’ve stuck with them because I’ve never had a problem with itching and redness like I did with another brand. Everyday Minerals contacted me a couple weeks back and asked if I would be interested in review their products. I quickly responded that I was already a HUGE fan and actually had reviewed them on my own a while back. I received a great selection of goodies, some that I choose myself and some that were a surprise.

I decided to add the new products to what I already owned and do a quick before and after to show you how they transformed my face in about 5 minutes. I’ll let you what I’m wearing and in what order I applied them and with what bamboo brush I used.

After moisturizing and letting that dry I apply using the Foundation Brush, Abbott’s Perk Me Up Concealer under my eyes, around my nose and right at my upper lash line. This helps to even out the circles and slight redness and dullness on my skin. I used to use Lavender Color Corrector for under my eyes but Abbott’s Perk Me Up seems to be doing a great job and pulling double duty.

My next step is my base. With the Long Handled Kabuki I apply Medium Beige Neutral all over my face onto my neck and under my ears. I brush this powder in a circular motion haphazardly everywhere paying attention to my eyes and around my mouth. I’ve been known to do this step without a mirror and just brushing all over my face, there really is no margin of error. Cheek color is next. Using my new Angled Blush Brush I this time applied a tiny bit of Corner Office for a hint of color.

Eyes are my favorite part of my face because I love all the fun colors I can use. This particular night we were just going for a quick dinner so kept it toned down a bit but you can usually find me in purples, greens and even blues. Using the Eye Kabuki Brush I tapped Comfy over my lids then added a bit of Morocco with the Dome Blending Brush to the outer edges. I then used Everyday Eye Smudge Brush for a touch of Oasis to add a bit of shimmer under my brow.

Eyeliner goes on last. I’ve never used powder liner before this night so this was kinda an experiment too. I was sent Postcards Eyeliner which is described as a medium gray-green. I would say it was more of a dark gray with hints of metallic olive green. I used a very very stiff skinny tipped brush to apply just at the lash line. It went on easy and stayed put for the next couple hours. My only problem was I must have spilled a little on my vanity so then all the containers were smudged with dark eyeliner powder.

My last step was applying my lips. I normally don’t go for lots of color so I first applied Rose, Cardamom and Orange lip balm then swept on Sweet Berries lip gloss.

I’m done and doing all of this took me between 4-5 minutes. Loose powder application for all over the face might take some getting used to but I think it has greatly reduced my time spent applying cosmetics. The eyeliner application will take a few more tries to perfect but I think for my first time it went well.   I’ve had great success using Everyday Minerals, while I do add items from other brands Everyday Minerals is my go to especially for base, concealer and eyes.

At Everyday Minerals you’re able to try out some of their great colors for FREE. Choose one of their Try Me Free collections for free with the purchase of any order or for just $5 on their own. Everyday Minerals prices make it easy to try different trends and shades without breaking the bank.

Every month, Everyday Forward picks a national or international charity with a focus on women’s issues. This charity will benefit from the proceeds of a particular product. This month the product is B&B, a cheek color that gives a warm glow for any skin color. The charity this month is Kiva.org, an organization that helps finance entrepreneurs around the globe.

Dad’s Perspective: The products seem to last a long time and are priced really good compared to the other brand she used to use.

LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers are getting the chance to win 1 of 2 $35 gift certificates. Visit Everyday Minerals and tell me something you learned about the Everyday Minerals, Beauty Perks or Everyday Forward.

Revenge Is… Recycled Clothing Process

And the Winner is:

November 4, 2009 10:31 PM

Revenge Is… wearing clothing made from not only organic materials but recycled plastic bottles (RPET). Yes I said plastic bottles! To make the RPET, recycled plastic bottles are melted down and then processed into a fine yarn which, in turn, becomes a soft and silky t-shirt. This process allows the tees to be washed and dried over and over and over without shrinking or fading. You get the luxury of wearing a comfy fashionable tee without the hazards of owning cotton.
Revenge is… more than an apparel and accessories company. Their mission is to bring awareness to the environmental and issues that we face daily by introducing products that help make a difference.

Global warming, energy dependence, war, economic turmoil, foreclosures and unemployment – these are some of the major crisis facing our world today. Developing alternative sources, practicing “reduce, reuse and recycle” in our everyday lives, and demanding more effective diplomatic and economic policies of our government and business institutions will help. The old saying goes “the best revenge is living well.” Our belief is that, by taking action today, we can all live well tomorrow.
Our individual actions may not change the world, but our collective actions will. Our message products make the statement that you care and you are part of the solution. Our newsletter will inform you about critical issues we face today. Our blog gives you the opportunity to voice your concerns and solutions about the many challenges we face today.
Sabreena received 2 tees from Revenge Is… The Peace tee send a message that we all want to live in a community that is safe and healthy for not just us but our children yet we are daily bombarded with issues of crime, violence and terrorism. Our Best Revenge against these issues is Peace! The Earth Day tee reminds us that we can collectively change the fate of our world with our positive and sustainable choices. All tees from Revenge Is… are made in the USA and are made using a mix of organic cotton, eco friendly printing inks of course recycled water bottles.  I do wish the tees were cut a little bigger.  The mediums are ok for Sabreena, a bit snug but she likes them that way. they just introduced some more colors, the purple has a  great heathered/faded look.
Become a part of the change; take part in your area’s pressing issues. Visit Revenge Is… blog to learn more about what is going in our government, world issues and our economy as well as pressing environmental issues. Volunteerism is one that that almost everyone can do for almost every cause out there. Help is always needed!

Dad’s Perspective: The idea of recycling water bottles into tshirts if a pretty cool idea.  Sabreena is all about going green and doing more for her community so this article is right up her alley!

Win fun and sustainable products from Revenge Is… right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! You’ll get to pick a tee of your choice plus snatch up a reusable tote, both made from recycled plastic water bottles. Please sign up for the Revenge Is… newsletter to get updates on how to make a difference, this is a mandatory entry.

Shoprite’s Partners in Caring fight against hunger

Chances are we’ve all experienced or know someone who has experienced hunger. It’s an epidemic in this country; 31 million people will miss at least one meal today, too many of them children and senior citizens. Shoprite’s Partners in Caring is trying to do something about that. When you purchase specially marked items within Shoprite’s stores you support one of 50 plus companies whose donations help hunger-fighting charities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania. These means every time you pick up that bottle of juice, can of vegetables, tube of toothpaste or box of pasta you are helping YOUR community fight the hunger pains. Each Shoprite is working directly with local charities so your Shoprite’s Partners in Caring purchases are being received by neighborhood food banks, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior programs, battered women’s shelters, rehab centers and after school programs.

Since its beginning in 1999, Shoprite’s Partners in Caring program has donated more than $20 million in food and other products to its communities. With partners like General Mills, Kraft, Nabisco, Procter & Gamble and many others fighting hunger I easier than you think. Purchase a product that has a Shoprite Partners in Caring tag and the manufacturer will make a donation to the program, that simple.

Shoprite’s Partner in Caring wants you to give your support. General Mills will donate one box of cereal to a local food bank for each of the first 30 comments left on this post.

Share our Strength-No Kid Hungry

Share Our Strength® is a national organization that works hard to make sure no kid in America grows up hungry. They are working with communities, volunteers and supporters like you to catch children at risk and surround them with nutritious food and programs that allow easier access to this food. More than 12.4 million kids were at risk of going hungry last year, that’s over 17% of all of our children. I’m not talking kids who missed a snack or didn’t get dessert I’m talking about children who are missing meals due to poverty and have limited access to nutritious food.
Severe hunger and malnutrition causes significant and long-lasting damage and difficulties including physical, mental and developmental delays and disabilities.

• Impedes growth and development
• More illness, including stomach- and headaches, colds, ear infections and fatigue
• Poorer mental health
• More hospitalizations
• Greater susceptibility to obesity and its harmful health consequences
• More aggressive behavior
• Higher levels of hyperactivity, anxiety and/or passivity
• Difficulty getting along with other children
• Greater need for mental health services
• Have impaired cognitive functioning and diminished capacity to learn
• Achieve lower test scores and overall school performance
• Repeat a grade
• Experience school absences, tardiness and school suspensions

Severe hunger causes more than just stomach grumbles. Why is childhood hunger an issue these days? One contributing factor is over 37% of US households are at or below the poverty level. This can cause an inadequate standard of living, forcing families to make cut backs on necessities like food, health care and education. Share our Strength is determined to end childhood hunger by implementing programs such as Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® , Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale® , Share Our Strength’s A Tasteful Pursuit® , Share Our Strength’s Great American Dine Out™ and Share Our Strength’s Operation Frontline®. If you aren’t able to get involved in any of these programs a small financial donation can go really far.
$35.00 – Help feed a child three meals a day for more than a month.
$50.00 – Help provide preschool children with lunch for a day.
$100.00 Provide 25 bags of nutritious foods for a family at a food bank.
$250.00 – Could help connect over 9,300 families to free meal programs
$1,000.00 – Could provide over 24,000 glasses of milk to a school

Get involved in your own community today. Participate in your neighborhood events or even better organize an event such as a community bake sale. Support the 12.4 million children in need.

FamilyReach Foundation and My PillowPets Fundraiser

Over 50% of online sales will be donated to help cover the day-to-day expenses families face during treatment

Family Reach Foundation (www.familyreach.org) & My Pillow Pets have teamed up to raise much-needed funds for families fighting pediatric cancers and other life-threatening illnesses! My Pillow Pets, which are cuddly plush animals that unfold into super-soft pillows, will donate an amazing 55% of the sale of every Pillow Pet sold online when customers reference “Family Reach” at the checkout. Family Reach helps families deal with the everyday bills that pile up during treatment, from transportation to monthly mortgage payments.

The My Pillow Pets website makes it very easy for supports to contribute to Family Reach Foundation. When customers place their order on the site (www.mypillowpets.com), they will see a drop-down menu at the checkout labeled “Where Did You Hear About Us.” They should then select “Family Reach Foundation”, at which point 55% of the sale will be donated to the non-profit, whose goal is to provide families with emotional and financial support.

Family Reach’s network includes hospitals all across the country. Many of these hospitals are already using My Pillow Pets in the infusion and recovery rooms to offer a source of comfort to children who are receiving treatment. In addition to donating a portion of the proceeds, My Pillow Pets is encouraging its online customers to add an additional $1.00 to their shopping carts, which will go directly to Family Reach. The fundraiser is kicking off this week!

Winner Chosen: American Kids Bedding

Secret’s Custom Creations said…
I would like the tea party or the olivia set.

June 23, 2009 10:49 PM

If you read my husband’s site (PB and Smelly’s Dad) you’d know that Shae recently went into her big girl bed. We were all excited to move furniture around and work on her staying in bed that we skipped a step…….BEDDING. Yup, mom forgot that the kid needed bedding like everyone else.
American Kids Bedding stepped in and hooked the little girl up. She’s got her own gorgeous floral quilt, sham, sheets and bed skirt. I picked a color palette that was similar to her crib bedding because I’m not a fan of baby pastels. Flowers for Hanna arrived and I quickly fell in love. Rich chocolate brown accents with modern vibrant orange and pink flowers and purple trim fit perfectly with Shae’s colorful personality. She was so excited when we first made her bed she now runs around the house yelling “Big Girl Bed” and gets mad if anyone lays in it. Her bed is lowered right now so the skirt has to wait but everything else fit perfectly. The quilt is a generous size so that we both can fit under it for naps but also soft enough that she can stay on top of it for warmer days. I’m extremely pleased with the quality and color of this gorgeous set from American Kids Bedding.

Heidi, a mother of 3 girls started American Kids Bedding out of passion to create a successful child oriented company as well as stay home to be the main care provider for her children.

“American Kids Bedding allows me to do both. The reason I chose kids bedding was because when looking for my own children there was such a poor selection in all the department stores. All you had to choose from was Sponge Bob, Hannah Montana and Barbie. So I felt it would be great to have a large selection of different styles. Our company is growing day by day and for me this is just the tip of the ice berg and I am very driven for success.”

Just one look at the trendy selections you’ll see why choosing American Kids Bedding is the better choice from discount retailers out there. With her attention to detail, Heidi is able to offer a unique variety for crib bedding, big kid bedding and teen bedding plus individual sheet sets and wall décor to complete a bedroom makeover.

For your next bedroom makeover shop American Kids Bedding before looking anywhere else. Feel extra good about that purchase too because for the month of June, $5 of every quilt set purchase is being donated to Breast Cancer Research through Wings of Hope. Use discount code MomFoundIt for a $9.99 off your purchase, this basically gives you free shipping for orders under $200.

American Kids Bedding has recently experienced the news that a close family member was diagnosed with breast cancer, news that each and everyone of us dreads. So during the month of June we will be donating $5.00 for each quilt set purchased to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Together we can make a difference, 1 dollar at a time. We thank you in advance for your kindness and support.

Win a child’s sheet set from American Kids Bedding. Visit American Kids Bedding and tell me what quilt set you’d love to have for your little one.
