Project 52- Week 18

Welcome to my 18th week of Project 52, a little late but I still did it. Project 52 is a weekly wrap-up of our lives behind the blog.  A couple pictures showing you what goes on with us and the kids and the things we do.

Guess What…..Last week was busy. So busy in fact I was barely on the blog, twitter and facebook. So busy in fact I didn’t have time to put up Project 52 on Saturday like I usually do. The kids were on spring break, the weather was nice and Rob and I were working on the garden. Saturday we had a cub scouts event with Shaun. We got a tour and boating lesson on the Kalmar Nyckel, a replica 17th century merchant ship from Sweden. They got to learn knots, setting sail, blacksmithing and loading a canon.

Shaun Is Moving Through The Ranks

Shaun has moved up through the Cub Scout ranks pretty quickly and tonight crossed over from a Wolf to a Bear.  He has worked hard since September learning everything he could about scouts and really dedicated himself and did everything he was suppose to do.  Melinda and I are so proud of him.

Project 52- Week 12

Welcome to my 12th edition of Project 52, my attempt to capture our lives in a couple pictures once a week.

The week started a bit busy.  Shae and I went to Sesame Street Live with my best friend and her little girl; it was so much fun.  The rest of the week was normal and ended with Shaun’s Cub Scouts Blue and Gold Banquet.

Shaun Is Going To The District Finals

Tonight Shaun participated in his first pinewood derby held by his Cub Scout troop. For those of you not familiar with pinewood derbies here is a definition of what it is. The pinewood derby is a racing event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. Cub Scouts, with the help of parents, build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles.

In the first heat Shaun finished first on all four runs. They run each car in all four lanes and use time to determine who moves on to the next round.

Shaun’s car is the red one all by itself

They then pick the fastest eights cars from round one and race them against each other.  In the second round Shaun finished second overall and is moving to the District race in April.  I am so proud of Shaun.  This is his as well as my first pinewood derby race but I feel like it went really well.  On a side not I was anxious and my nerves were shot the whole time because I am that dad. LOL.

The red car in the lead is Shaun’s

Hopefully at the District race we have good results also but whatever happens this is better then I expected.

Wordless Wednesday – Weekend At Camp Rodney

This past weekend Shaun and I went on a Cub Scout Camping trip to Camp Rodney in North East, MD and here are a few pictures.  He loved it.

Me and My Boy Are Going On Out First Real Camping Trip Together

Shaun and I are leaving at 7:30am to meet Cub Master Rob (Not me another Rob) and the other people going camping then we are going to drive to Camp Rodney in MD all together.

I hear once we get there around 8:30am we will set up our tent then there are activities planned like archery, sling shots, bb guns and going hiking. We will also be having a camp fire where smores will be in order. The one good thing is Camp Rodney has a dining hall so no cooking for me this weekend.

Here is a picture of my car packed full for our trip.
Here is some food for Shaun and I eat while hiking:

We are going to have a great trip. Be sure to check back because I will be posting more pictures of our camping trip.

My Boy Is A Cub Scout

About three weeks ago Melinda and I decided Shaun needed to be involved in something outside of school so I took him to a cub scouts meeting.  The 1st meeting all they did was play so I was a little hesitant on taking him back to a second meeting.  We did attend the second meeting and they actually did some work out of the “Wolf” handbook and he enjoyed it so we are all in now.

We forked out $50 for his uniform, $50 to register him and $50 for a camping trip him and I are attending at the end of October.  So we are looking forward to his journey through cub scouts and he is pretty excited every Monday for his meeting.  Lets keep our fingers crossed that he stays excited!
