I’ve realized something recently. As I watched my son grow up I missed seeing him actually “grow up”. When I look at him I see a kid, a kid that makes messes, talks back sometimes, leaves his sneakers all over the garage and forgets his lunch at home. What I’ve been missing is the young man he’s becoming. I missed his growth spurt so now he’s taller than his mom. I missed the blossoming relationship between him and his older sister. I missed the way his grandfather looks at him with pride and love being the only grandson.

It the time of year that we really sit and remember the time that has gone by. Memories flood my brain as I unbox each ornaments and the kids try to remember where each one came from. Rob circles the tree adding the lights in a meticulous pattern. It’s Christmas season.

During this time we also play holiday movies in the background. We don’t do heartwarming or old fashioned we go right for funny as the movies the kids choose are usually a mix of Elf, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation or The Grinch starring Jim Carry. This means we’re laughing and reciting lines as we’re decorating. This means the kids are re-enacting absurd scenes from some of their favorite movies. This means we’re enjoying the time we’re spending together.

This year will be no different. We’ll do what we always do but we’ll be able to add a fun new ornament to the mix. Hallmark has sent us a has sent us a keepsake to fit right into our traditions, The Grinch’s Heart Grew Three Sizes.

Jord Wood Watch Recap and Giveaway

Sol Republic Deck Giveaway

We tried to squeeze in all the summer possible over the last few weeks. A trip to the beach was on the agenda and we packed like we were gonna stay for days. Turns out the weather was pretty perfect and we sat in that sand for hours and hours while the kids played and swam. Big Step into Middle School #fightforyourwrite [plus giveaway]

Middle School is a big step. No more walking the halls with the kindergarteners or hearing his little sister yell his name across the cafeteria. Shaun is no longer a little boy. He’s growing into a young man. In fact he’s already taller than me at age 11. Yep, he’s 11.
This school year is gonna be so different. He gets to stay after for sports and extra-curriculars. Hopefully he gets into guitar. Hopefully he realizes the huge changes that are about to happen to his life. These are very formative years. These are the years that set you up for high school. These are the years that unfortunately box you into a clique. I hope he sees the greatness in everyone not just one group of kids.

School shopping this year was easy. No more crayons. No more scissors. No more glue sticks. This year he needed a scientific calculator and graph paper. Big steps for a big grade.

Acme Markets #MyMixx for More Savings [plus giveaway]

If you’re anything like most people these days you want your errands and tasks to be easier. For me this means being about to do lots of things while on the go. I know my dry cleaning can’t be done over my phone but if I can find a “green” dry cleaner with my fingertips then I’m on the right track. Acme is now helping me save on my grocery shopping with the introduction of MyMixx.

MyMixx is a new way to save even more on the groceries I shop for anyway. Using the Acme app on my phone I can “clip coupons” and add them right to my shopping list which I also update on my phone. An since I’m shopping Acme that means NO loyalty card needed. Your MyMixx account is attached to your phone number used when signing up.

Clip coupons to stock up on items on sale or buy just what you need. I’m not one to shop for 20 of 1 item because it’s on sale. I just don’t have the room. But I will snag up a useful item if the price if right AND I have a coupon.

I did last week’s grocery shopping with a focus on back to school snacks. I know school is starting soon and I need to get ready. Our shopping cart was full of our regular shopping needs plus Lance Sandwich Crackers, Jif To Go Peanut Butter, Pepperidge Farm Goldfish in every flavor, Dole Fruit Cups and maybe an Entenmann’s Danish (or two).

The snacks are stashed in a box in the garage waiting for the 1st day of school. I’ll do some more shopping, adding to the snack and lunch stash but it’s a start and I saved money and time.
