The Funkier the Better

snow white poison apple pumps heels platformsI’ve said it so many times before, Sabreena is a jeans and tees kinda girl. She likes to make this simple style her own by adding little pops of color or design.  When Apparel Dynasty approached me to review their products I thought for sure their shoes would right up Sabreena’s alley.

Apple Radio Sneakers is what she selected from the entire crazy, colorful collection of sneakers, heels  and flats.  I thought for sure she would’ve picked pumps but these showed up and I knew she made the right choice.  The bright yellow looks great against her jeans.  At first I wasn’t sure about the quality. The strong rubber smell permeated the house for hours but as far as construction they are holding up well.  This style sneaker is all Sabreena wears so they fit right into her wardrobe.

P-Touch Tough Test-It Challenge – FOLLOW UP!

Some of you may know that I was selected to be a part of the P-Touch Tough Test-It Challenge back in August 2011 where I was asked to show how tough and durable Brother P-Touch labels were in the bedroom and playroom. If you want to check out my two original posts click HERE and HERE.

Seven months have past and the labels are still holding tough with zero problems at all.  Melinda and I labeled ALL of her craft items so that they were easier for her and the kids to find.  Everything is still in place and the labels haven’t faded or peeled at all which is totally awesome.

After I realized how durable the labels were I actually labeled a lot of my garage items so that I could be more organized which has been a huge help.  I figured if these labels could withstand my abuse in the garage they could withstand abuse anywhere.

Overall I am extremelly happy that I had a chance to review the Brother P-Touch Label Maker and am a little more organized because of it.

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Brother P-Touch and received a product and gift card to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Monster Trucks = Awesome Time

Shaun and I are HUGE Monster Jam fans and will be attending a show this Saturday in Baltimore, MD.

Shaun and I went to two shows last year, one in Philly at Lincoln Financial Field and the other one was in Baltimore, MD at the M&T Bank stadium.  The show this Saturday is going to be very different for Shaun and I because this show is inside.  Yup you heard me right inside.  The two shows we went to last year were in pro football stadiums and those shows were loud even though they were outside so I can only imagine how loud the show is going to be inside.

I do have ear plugs for Shaun and I but I might have to upgrade to headphone like grass cutters wear.  I want to make sure we have the proper ear protection because those monster trucks are going to rock the place and I would like to be able to hear once I leave.

Shaun and I In Baltimore with Monster Mutt Dalmatian driver Candice Jolly

I am super excited for the show on Saturday and I know Shaun and I are going to have an awesome time.

This is Me and Shaun’s favorite truck – Lucas Oil Crusader

I was thinking about taking Shaun to Vegas for the World Finals on 3/23 and 3/24 but airfare was super expensive.  Maybe one day the World Finals will be closer to the east coast and Shaun and I will be go but a least we live in between Philadelphia and Baltimore so we can see twice as many show.

Click HERE for show times, locations and tickets.

Have you ever been to a Monster Jam show?  If so what did you think?  If not you should look to go ASAP!

Keep Your Computer Safe With McAfee

Protecting your computer is essential from cyber attacks and surfing the internet unprotected is a no no so if you are looking for full computer protection give McAfee Total Protection a try. Recently we had the opportunity to review McAfee Total Protection and so far I am very happy with this product.

Many people spend a lot of time searching for the best tech deals when they buy a computer, but often give security little thought.

Over the years I have tried just about every Anti-Virus software that has been on the market and I am being honest when I say that McAfee is the most versatile by far.

McAfee Total Protection provides a TON of features and benefits such as:

  • Wireless network protect – McAfee Home Network Defense allows you to share your wireless network with others but allows you to block them from seeing passwords and personal files on your PC.
  • Parental Controls – Allows you to limit online time as well as lets you use age based rules and adjustable categories so that you can block inappropriate sites.
  • Protects against Viruses and Malware – provides complete Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Anti-Malware protection along with real time safeguards as well as a two way firewall to provide an extra layer of security.

A few new features that I think are really cool are:

  • USB and Removable Drive Scan – Scans these devices for viruses and stops them before they get transferred to your computer.
  • Pre-Install Scan – This may be one of the features I love best. A lot of people get an Anti-Virus program once their computer already has a virus so this feature works to remove infections while the software is being installed.

There are so many features that if I described them all here it would be a three hour blog post. To read about all of the features as well as system requirements click HERE!!!!!

We have been using McAfee Total Protection for about a month or so on all four of our laptops and have had zero viruses. Even Melinda who with our old Anti-Virus program seemed to get a new virus every month has been 100% virus free and the kid’s laptop has been clean as well.

If you are in need of an Anit-Virus program be sure to check out McAfee Total Protection.

Droid Razr By Motorola – Best Phone I’ve Ever Owned

I recently became a Motorola Insider which means I get access to new Motorola products and a few weeks back I received the Droid Razr by Motorola. Now I want to start this review by telling you that Melinda says that I hate every phone that I have ever owned but she is 100% wrong this time.

To me the Razr is the fastest phone that I have ever owned plus it is 4G which is pretty awesome. The Razr is powered by a Dual-Core 1.2GHz , Dual-Channel RAM Processor that runs the 2.3.5 Gingerbread Android platform which is Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgradeable. The Razr has an awesome 8MP rear facing camera and a 1.3MP front facing imager with 720p HD video capture.  It also comes with 16 GB of internal memory; 16 GB microSD card pre-installed (Black model only).

So far I am about 3 weeks into using my new phone and so far I love it.  A cool feature of the Droid Razr by Motorola is Smart Action.  Smart Action can make tasks easier by automating actions you do every day.  Here are a few examples of what Smart Action can do for you:

  • Sleep – Turns off ringer when you go to bed.
  • Morning – Automatically launches the news each morning.
  • Workout – Plays music when you use headphones.
  • Local Discovery – Launches Social Location every night to help you discover new things around you.

These are just a few things that Smart Action helps you with.  Another really cool feature I just stumbled upon is Motocast Remote Access.  Motocast allows you to stream and sync music and photos from your computer to your phone.  All you have to do is plug your phone into your computer via a USB cable to setup an initial account and after that you are in business.  This is a fairly new feature for me so I am still testing it but so far it is pretty awesome.

I am being 100% serious and honest when I tell you that the Droid Razr by Motorola is the BEST phone that I have ever owned. It is extremely fast and processes every task that I throw at it with no problem.  The display is large (which I really like believe it or not) at 4.3-inches and is Super AMOLED which makes the display look so vivid and alive.  The battery life is awesome and on a day where I use the phone heavy for Facebook, Twitter and surfing the internet I get about 10-12 hours on the battery.  My old phone would crap out after 4-5 hours no matter how much I used it.

I am sure there are so many more features that I am leaving out because most likely I haven’t stumbled upon them yet but it you are looking for a new phone and into tech stuff like I am click HERE for full details on the Razr.

Panasonic Bagless Upright Vacuum with Swivel Steering

We have had our fair share of vacuums over the years from free vacuums to $700.00 vacuums. I would by not means say that I am an expert when it comes to them but I will be honest in saying that I do know more than most men should probably know when it comes to vacuum cleaners. Recently we added the Panasonic MC-UL815 to the mix and so far I am extremely happy with this vacuum.

First thing I noticed right out of the box was its awesome vibrant green color. I know it has nothing to do with how the vacuum functions but our oldest really likes using this vacuum and when I asked her why she said because it was not ugly. My review will be based on a little more than the color but I will agree it is a nice looking vacuum. To me the two best features are its bagless and has swivel steering. No more making sure you have extra vacuum bags on hand for when the current one fills up. I also love that it is lightweight so that Sabreena as well as Melinda are able to carry it up two flights of steps without killing their backs in the process. It also comes with a dirt sensor that tells you when the area you are vacuuming is clean. Seriously, how cool is that? I know sometimes I am in such a hurry to get the vacuuming done that I practically run through the house but not anymore and the Panasonic forces me to slow down and make sure that I am really getting the carpet as clean as can be. These are just a few of the things that I really like about the vacuum. Sabreena like the retractable power cord because to her it makes maneuvering the vacuum easier than a traditional cord. The Panasonic Bagless Upright Vacuum is packed full of great features that make this a must have.

Just in case you are into information overload here are some more tech specs:

An After Thanksgiving Feast with a Cat Cora Recipe

macy's culinary council cookbook“That was one of the best meals you’ve ever made!” Those were the exact words my father said to me after trying out a recipe from The Macy’s Culinary Council Thanksgiving and Christmas Cookbook.

The Culinary Council is a nationally recognized team of leading masters in the kitchen. The team is comprised of chefs like Marcus Samuelsson, Tim Scott, Ming Tsai, Marc Forgione and many more well highly esteemed names. The chefs were brought together in 2003 to inspire Macy’s customers to cook for their own families. The chefs are brought into Macy’s locations to lead cooking demonstrations, share stories and teach new culinary techniques, giving customers a step in the right direction to cook like a master chef in their own kitchens.

To celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade the 13 member council put together The Thanksgiving and Holiday Cookbook as a collection of their favorite recipes. Filled with family traditions, sentimental stories and amazing photography this cookbook contains 80 recipes that will become centerpieces to any table for any holiday.

I planned a huge Sunday dinner and planned on Cat Cora’s Slow Roasted with Pork. The recipe contains ingredients that I wasn’t too sure would come together; mustard, bourbon, sage and brown sugar, but the end result was a crispy outside and juicy, flavorful inside. I went big and cooked a 5lb boneless roast (recipe called for bone-in but my local grocer didn’t have one) and had plenty of leftovers for another dinner and some lunches. I’ve cooked pork roasts in the past and while they’ve all been good this was by far the stunner. My father left that night with the cookbook, I haven’t seen it since. Cat Cora’s Garlic Mashed Potatoes were the perfect match a roasted chicken dinner a few nights later .

my sauce, had to tweak the recipe but it still was so good

Another recipe I want to try (whenever I get my cookbook back) is Emeril Lagasse’s Breakfast Casserole. I love breakfast casseroles and make a couple varieties on my own but never have I tried to incorporate Broccoli.

Ingredients
Nonstick cooking spray
1 1/4 teaspoons salt, plus more to season
6 cups broccoli florets (from about 2 pounds broccoli heads)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 1⁄2 cups finely chopped onions( I’ll use sweet Spanish onions)
1 1/4 cups (about 8 ounces) finely chopped ham (leftover xmas ham of course)
3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (we prefer extra sharp)
8 cups cubed crusty bread such as French or Italian (1-inch cubes)
8 large eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups half-and-half (too rich for me, I’ll cut it with some fat-free milk)
2 tablespoons minced fresh chives or scallions
1 1/4 teaspoons sweet paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (fresh of course)

Directions
Spray a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Fill a large pot three-fourths full of water and bring to a boil over high heat. Meanwhile, prepare an ice bath. Season the water with salt, add the broccoli florets, and blanch until bright green and barely tender, about 1 minute. Using a skimmer, transfer the broccoli to the ice bath to halt the cooking. When the broccoli is fully chilled, drain well, pat dry with paper towels, and set aside.

In a small saute pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions and a couple of pinches of salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft, about 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool.

In a large bowl, combine the broccoli, cooled onions, ham, Cheddar cheese, and bread cubes. Toss gently to combine, and then transfer to the prepared baking dish, spreading the mixture in an even layer.
Using the same bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, chives, 11/4 teaspoons salt, paprika, and cayenne pepper until thoroughly mixed. Pour over the broccoli mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or up to overnight. About30 minutes before baking, remove the casserole from the refrigerator and allow to come to room temperature.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish and cover the dish with aluminum foil. Place in the oven and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and sprinkle the Parmesan cheese evenly over the top. Return the casserole, uncovered, to the oven and continue baking until the top is golden brown and puffed and the casserole is cooked through when tested with a knife, about 15 minutes longer.

Transfer the casserole to a rack and let rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Cut into squares to serve.

This will be perfect for New Years Day! Our New Year’s Eve is usually low key, spent at home with the kids so there is nothing stopping me from whipping up a grand breakfast to kick off a new year.

The Macy’s Culinary Council Thanksgiving and Christmas Cookbook is available at select Macy’s stores and macys.com. The cookbook is overflowing with delicious recipes and tremendous inspiration to feed your own family and friends this holiday season. The council is made up of these 13 chefs; Rick Bayless, Michelle Bernstein, Cat Cora, Tom Douglas, Todd English, Marc Forgione, Emeril Lagasse, Marcus Samuelsson, Tim Scott, Nancy Silverton, Ming Tsai, Wolfgang Puck and Takashi Yagihashi.

I was provided with a cookbook and gift card to fund the cost of the preparation, ingredients and tools needed to cook these recipes courtesy of Everywhere Society.

Tis The Season For Hickory Farms

Tis the holiday season and to me nothing is better at a holiday party then some Hickory Farms snacks. Recently I received the party planner gift box and my intensions were to save it for a holiday treat but it didn’t make it that far. But that isn’t a bad thing because it was enjoyed by all.

Hickory Farms snacks are more than just holiday snacks but are good for just about any occasion. A few weeks ago Melinda’s father came over for dinner and before dinner we cut up some summer sausage and assorted chesses and served it on the sesame crackers and we all enjoyed the gift box as an appetizer. My favorite part of the gift box honestly was the sweet hot mustard and cranberry mustard. I consider myself a person who enjoys different mustards and was extremely happy that these were in my gift box. This was my first experience with cranberry mustard and I was very surprised and happy with the mustard and definitely something I will try again.

Hickory Farms offers many different items from the party boxes to mixed nut tins to cookies. They offer so many different products they make great gifts for that person who is on your Christmas list but has everything. I am sure if you show up with some Hickory Farms to your office party or your friends’ holiday party you will become the instant hit of the party.

Right now Hickory Farms is offering Free Shipping on orders over $35 so hurry because you only have 14 days until Christmas.

Happy Holidays!!!

Would You Rock or Kick?

Christmas is exactly three weeks away so if you still need an awesome gift for your child or for a child on your list consider a Rockboard Scooter. We recently received a Rockboard Scooter for review and to me it might be one of the best scooters we have ever owned.

To me what makes the Rockboard Scooter a unique scooter is the propulsion which is achieved with each rock, wasting zero energy and allowing the scooter to reach speeds up to 10mph. The Rockboard Scooter has two ways it can be used, Rock Mode and Kick Mode. Rock mode is where after take off all you need to do is rock back and fourth to propel the scooter. If you want to go old school you can use kick mode where you use you feet to move the scooter.

The Rockboard Scooter takes less then a minute to unfold and is pretty easy to do which means most kids can do it themselves without a parents help. Having the ability to fold the scooter after use is great also because it allows you to store it when not in use.

The Rockboard Scooter comes in two different models so just about any kid can own one of these awesome scooters. The two models are Orginial for children ages 8 and up with a weight limit up to 200 lbs and Mini for children 5 and up with a weight limit of 90 lbs. Either model can be purchased at stores like Toys R Us, Target and Amazon.com.
