# For Healthy and Shiny Hair

To achieve this, I will share preparations for three hair types: dry, regular, and oily hair.

hair growth

Let us first look at all the ingredients in general-

Ingredients:

  • Gram flour
  • Curd (Non-flavored, unsweetened)
  • Olive oil
  • Egg white
  • Almond powder
  • Coconut milk
  • Fenugreek (powdered)

Directions for:

a. Dry hair- Take about 5 tbsp of curd and gram flour, and mix well with 2 tbsp of olive oil. Now apply this mixture to your hair evenly, from root to tip. Now cover with a shower cap and leave it for 30 minutes. After that, rinse thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner.

b. Regular hair- Mix 2 tbsp of gram flour, with one egg white, and almond powder. Now apply this on your scalp and leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse off well with shampoo after that.

c. Oily hair- Mix a tablespoon of methi seeds with gram flour, and pour in some coconut milk. Now apply this mixture evenly on your hair. Keep it for 30 minutes and then wash it off with shampoo.

# For Frizzy and Damaged Hair

Due to weather change, pollution, and diet many times, our hair becomes frizzy and unmanageable. The damage in the roots cause hair loss, and your hairline gradually starts receding. Does all this sound familiar? Then go ahead and try this mask.

Ingredients:

  • One egg
  • Castor oil- half tbsp
  • Two vitamin E capsule
  • Aloe vera gel
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

Directions:

Warm the coconut oil slightly and then pour it in a bowl. Add the castor oil and stir gently. Now mix the egg to it and keep stirring. Next, put the aloe vera gel into the mixture and ensure all the ingredients are mixed properly. Once that is done, Cut open the Vitamin E capsules and pour the content into the mixture. Now apply this on your hair by massaging gently. Cover with a shower cap as this captures the heat of the oil and increases blood circulation in your scalp. Let it stay for about an hour and then rinse off with a mild shampoo. Keep using this mask twice a week, and you will notice the difference.

# Hair Growth Solution

If you want longer hair and a thicker mane, then you could give the following mask a try.

Ingredients:

  • Aloe vera gel
  • Castor oil- 2 tbsp (lukewarm)
  • Avocado- half
  • Banana- 1 smashed

Directions

First, mix the aloe vera gel and castor oil in a small bowl. Now add the mashed banana and avocado to it. Mix properly and spread it evenly on your scalp and hair. The goodness of potassium in bananas, the omega-3-fatty acids of avocado, the Ricinoleic Acid of castor oil promote hair growth, and the aloe vera adds to the luster and fights of dandruff and bacterial infections, the common enemies of growth! Leave the mixture on your hair for 1 hour. Remember that castor oil has a very sticky consistency, so wash it off properly with a mild shampoo. Use this pack once every week to get great results.

# For dandruff problems

Are you struggling with a dandruff invasion? Is it causing a lot of hair loss? Fret not; this could be for you then.

Ingredients:

  • A hibiscus green tea bag
  • Warm water
  • Vitamin E capsules-2
  • Half a lemon
  • Honey- 2 tbsp
  • Olive oil- 1 tbsp

Directions

In the warm water, soak the tea bag for 2 minutes. Now pour this liquored tea in a bowl. Add the juice of half a lemon and pour in the contents from the vitamin E capsules. Now add the honey and olive oil. Gently massage this on your scalp for 3-5 minutes. Wear a shower cap and let this dry on your hair for 20 minutes. After that, wash off with a good shampoo and conditioner. Use this twice a week till your dandruff problem is resolved, and you will be amazed to find how nicely this works!

Conclusion

So try these out and see what works for you and your awesome hair!

The Danger of Excess Caffeine for Students

The toxic relationship of students with caffeine. The effects and withdrawal are a heartbreaking journey, which will eventually lead to students questioning -was this all worth it?

Caffeine levels seem to have increased in students over the last decade or so. As a student, one has to juggle between assignments, readings for classes, and immense pressure to maintain a social life. The idea that they are superheroes who need no sleep and rest to save their college life. The perception that a few hours of sleep is enough is a small price to pay to succeed in college. Therefore, the one thing saving these ‘superheroes’ from crashing is caffeine.

caffine

Other than Coffee

When I ask students about the amount of caffeine they intake, they say no, I don’t drink coffee that much. They forget that energy drinks, aerated drinks, tea, chocolate, caffeinated tablets like crocin, etc. are all considered caffeine. Therefore, students drink or eat caffeine like its water. Coffee is a medicine to cure the sickness of assignments, classes, meetings, and having a college experience. The intake of caffeine increases every time the students consume it, as the body gets used to the previous amount. This makes them dependable as they feel that without caffeine they may not function; they can’t stay awake active and have the perfect college life.

Dangerous Effects of Caffeine

It is further said that caffeine makes people so used to the energy that they work below par and cannot work with efficiency once it is taken from them. But, to gain this efficiency, they risk their health and sleep. Caffeine affects your body, you start to feel you are exhausted and can not work with caffeine in your system. But, if you do decide to stop the intake of coffee, you feel lethargic and have no motivation to get up or move around.

The dark coffee consumed has its dark side effects. The average intake of coffee per day is 4 cups of coffee. Any amount more than that would lead to headaches, dizziness, insomnia, vomiting. The stomach is one of the most majorly affected organs in the body. The consumption of coffee is said to release chemicals in your brain that can rewire your mind and have harmful effects on your mental and physical well-being.

Withdrawal

Caffeine withdrawal after getting dependent is no easy task. When your body creates a bond with caffeine, it is tough to break it. It sticks on to you like a leach. But, once you decide to get rid of this leach, you will perform below par. You will have no energy to wake up and get to work, the muscles in your body will tremble and ask for caffeine. The effects of the addiction are real and no joke.

The way to rid yourself of this is by keeping tabs on your intake. Make a goal and stick to it. It will be difficult at first but do not give up.  Move to decaf drinks, or herbal. Start meditation and never cut it out in one go; remove it slowly. I have noticed that students’ intake of caffeine increases during exams and assignments. They cut it out immediately when they no longer need it. This is not the right way to get rid of the caffeine addiction formed; cut it out slowly and gently.

Final Thought

The path is heartbreaking, as caffeine feels like a form of love, something that truly gets you. Like every toxic relationship, this too needs to be flushed out of your system, gently and with care. This toxic relationship has happy memories but focuses on the long-term side effects that it caters to, which affects no one except you.

Books for Children to Read this Lockdown

Children are a bundle of joy filled with energy, which is hard to contain. It is hard to keep them occupied, as some get bored really fast—the need for adventure and exploration is very strong within them. The time when kids are at home with summer vacation on toll as well as the lockdown, they need something to distract them and keep them engaged. The best possible way for parents is to inculcate the habit of reading. Parents who are working or busy, or need to finish their work and leave the child alone for some time would benefit from teaching a reading habit in their child.

books

Children are hard to keep up, and with curious minds like their books would engage their minds with questions and answers. In times of lockdown, children are only at home as the fear of the pandemic looms around. Hence, all they can do is sit at home, either spending time on the internet or watch television, to break their routine and keep their vigor up.

Here are books that children should be read to or asked to read during the pandemic. The list is general, but nonetheless the journey would begin somewhere.

1. Age 0 – 3

The Tiger who came to tea – A classic by Judith Kerr, revolves around a girl, her mother and a starving tiger who asks if he can come in and have food, which leads to the Tiger eating all the food.

Dream big by Joyce Wan – An inspirational book that focuses on famous women and their achievements. Women who have followed their dreams.

2. Age 4 – 7

The Cat in the Hat – Written by Dr. Seuss, revolves around a cat in a white and red striped hat. As a character, the cat is portrayed to entertain children who are alone in the house and, in turn, creating havoc.

Winnie the Pooh – A classic book, where parents would feel nostalgic while reading it to their children. The book by A. A Milne is a great way to find adventure through the characters.

 3. Age 8 – 12

Bright Bursts of Colour – A book by poet Matt Goodfellow, the illustration and humorous as well as challenging instances, makes it a good read. The book also has poetry and hence brings about a different form of literature for children who are at an age where they can read to themselves.

Matilda – written by Roald Dahl, focuses on a small girl who is very bright and intelligent. Who isn’t understood by her parents or her principal, the only person who understands her is her class teacher Ms. Honey. This book would encourage students to embrace themselves.

Final Thoughts

The book lists caterers to all age groups of children. Parents need to push children to read to expand their minds and increase a sense of creativity. Books are known to be a person’s best friend, and the lockdown presents an opportunity to expand the literature world to children. Enjoy reading with your child.

So let the cooking begin and the kitchen turners upside down.

Three simple recipes that you can create with your child:

1. Let’s make something to drink to quench this summer heat. An Oatmeal Cookie smoothie is healthy and refreshing for the kids to try. All you need is 20 minutes, and you have yourself a milk+cookie smoothie.

The ingredients for this smoothie are – 3/4 cup rolled oats, ¼ cup raisins, 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, 1 cup whole milk (add more if you please), 1/2 cup full-fat vanilla yogurt, 1 tablespoon sugar (preferably brown as its a healthier option).

Time to make this smoothie and devour it – Add oats, raisins, pumpkin spice into a blender, and slowly add the milk to make sure it covers the oats. Set aside for 15 minutes and make sure it’s soft. Now back to the blender for a minute and add yogurt, sugar, and ice keep blending and voila it’s ready to be poured.

2. Apple Granola, a healthy snack is easy to make and good for your kids’ energy that they require to grow. The best part is this energetic snack requires a few ingredients, and once your child knows how to make it, they can make it for themselves whenever they are hungry as it takes only 5 minutes to prepare.

All you need are apples, peanut butter, crushed granola bars, cinnamon, and sugar.

Prepare the ingredients by laying them out on a table. Give the children apple slices so that they can coat it with a layer of peanut butter. Now dip the coated apple slice in a bowl of crushed granola. On the side mix cinnamon and sugar, sprinkle this mixture on your apple granola for extra flavor. Now it’s time to munch on this apple granola bar.

3. Now, for the evening’s dessert, for all those sweet tooth cravings and something to complete your meal. Hence, presenting a simple microwave Chocolate marshmallow cake that one can make in a mug. You do not require an oven to make this, and a microwave will suffice.

Ingredients you need are ½ cup sugar, ½ buttermilk, ¼ vegetable oil, 1 egg, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, ⅓ floor, 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, ⅛ teaspoon baking soda and a pinch of salt.

It’s time to spend 15 minutes making this delicious goody. All you have to do is first mix the sugar, buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, vanilla extract in a bowl—next start whisking and add flour, unsweetened cocoa, baking soda, and salt. The batter is ready, so take a microwavable mug coat with butter and pour the mixture into the mug. Keep it in the microwave for about two minutes, keep checking the cake, take a toothpick, and check if the cake has cooked. Lastly, take a marshmallow and put it on the cake and heat it. Voila, you have a beautiful dessert ready to be eaten.

Final Thoughts

While baking and cooking with your kid, be careful. Please do not leave the kid alone in the kitchen as they are not quite aware of how to use sharp objects yet. Therefore limit them to simple tasks and some of the ingredients of the recipe can be given to them, and they can mix and enjoy their masterpiece.
