Spooksville Returns to The Hub Network

Spooksville returned to The Hub Network on March 8th. The mid-season return episode kicks off with action-packed episode “Shell Shock” in which Sally reluctantly agrees to go along with her parents to visit the exclusive Springville Yacht Club, where a teenage boy, who is an aspiring yacht club member, disappears. To help solve this mysterious disappearance, Sally enlists the help of Adam and Watch to investigate and they soon discovers that the Yacht club is home to Spooksville’s latest supernatural terror – a giant mutant crab pirate.

Spooksville on The Hub NetworkThe kids and I watched this together and while the intro and show name infer a hint of scariness, it wasn’t scary at all. I worried a little for Shae but the humor that was weaved into the storyline was definitely up her alley. In fact she’s started using the word smarmy to describe anything gross, weird, annoying, etc that she comes across. Katie Douglas’ character Sally uses this word to describe someone she doesn’t like.

Spooksville is definitely a kid friendly show with a modified scary theme that won’t leave your kids too scared to go to bed. The Hub Network has got a good grasp on a network that fits the family without compromising quality and content.Hub Network

Catch the next episode of Spooksville on March 15th, 5:30pm EST.

Is It Spring Yet?

This is a sponsored post. I am a Kmart blogger, though all opinions are my own.

Endless snow days this year and lingering holiday décor has stopped us in our tracks. I know here in Delaware were are slated to get an other 10 to 12 inches of snow overnight and needless to say I am tired of winter and so so ready for spring.  It’s time for a change. Who’s in?

Nothing livens up your household (and your spirit) like a newly decorated home. This spring, we’re hearing things like ‘grey is the new beige’, ‘blue is in’ and ‘light wood finishes are back.’ Redecorating your home every time a new trend arises can be cruel to your wallet. Cue Kmart’s Semi Annual Home Sale! For many of us, winter has wreaked havoc on our homes and it is time to take our homes back.  Check out this funny video HERE on why we ALL need to retake our home.  This video reminds me a lot of our house minus the pillows exploding, LOL.

At the @Kmart Semi Annual Home Sale, you’ll find major savings on décor and furniture for your bed, bath, living room and kitchen. From bright colors to fresh finishes, you’ll save on everything you need to take your home from winter blues to stylish in spring. And with the points you’ll earn on redecorating, you’ll be able to redeem them on next season’s decorating trends.

Fabulous Ice Age #NetFlixKids

2014 disclosure

The Pairs Ice Dancing Competition is my favorite event in the Olympics. I find the chemistry between the couples beautiful and I am always blown away by the amazing jumps and lifts that they are able to perform all while sliding around on thin blades across ice. The way that the two can travel side by side at such a great speed and then the man lifts her and continues with the woman hoisted over his head all while keeping his balance is astounding. The trust that the woman must have in her partner to allow herself to be tossed into the air and spun around never fails to amaze me. They both posses such power and grace and they move so perfectly together; it’s breath-taking.

The Fabulous Ice Age took me back to the very first ice shows in 1930s night clubs and the ice dancer turned movie star Sonja Henie, up to the modern day Disney On Ice performances.

Fabulous Ice Age #netflixkidsThere was so much wonderful old footage of people with so much joy for what they were doing; I was thrilled. All of those people who spent their lives watching these wonderful shows and collecting props and costumes and memorabilia have such a passion for the sport. I don’t blame them. I love seeing the ice shows that Disney puts on. As soon as they began to talk about the start of the Disney shows, I began to remember all of the wonderful times that I’ve had with my family at those performances. They’re so much fun; getting to see my favorite characters and hear the songs from my favorite movies but all performed on ice. It was sad to hear that the old shows had to end for Disney to begin but a whole new era of Americans got to enjoy ice skating the way people did in the 1930s.

Join @ConKerrCancer PJ Party, Philadelphia Please Touch Museum

While a world free of cancer would be a dream come true right now we have to focus on research, compassion and treatment. Bringing smiles to the faces of those working through diagnosis, healing and living is one of the best ways to show support and kindness.ConKerr Cancer Pajama Party 2014 Philadelphia #ConKerrPJParty

ConKerr Cancer was created to bring smiles to some of the 44,000 children in the US that are going through cancer treatments each year. Their mission is to bring a smiles to children with life changing illnesses and to make them feel special.

ConKerr Cancer provides children with their own special pillowcase to help brighten hospital stays. For a child a hospital can be a scary place. It may be unfamiliar, cold and intimidating but something as simple as bright and cheery pillowcase can soothe and comfort.

On March 21, 2014 my family has been invited to join other families in the Philadelphia area at the ConKerr Cancer Pajama Party at The Please Touch Museum. The night is put together to celebrate special kids, the PJ Party Stars, and their families with a fun night dancing, silly picture taking, meeting celebrities and even sewing pillowcases. All of the fun will be had in our jammies.ConKerr Cancer Pajama Party 2014 Philadelphia #ConKerrPJParty

If you are interested in attending the Pajama Party or sponsoring a child in treatment to attend tickets are available for just $25.

Donations are always accepted also. Any contribution is welcome and will bring a smile to a sick child.

They spend day after frightening day stuck in a hospital room when they should be outside playing with friends. And each and every day, ConKerr Cancer volunteers work selflessly to bring them comfort and smiles through a simple act of love called a pillowcase.

If you are local to the Philadelphia area and want to join us for this event we’re giving away 2 tickets. Let me know if your family has been affected by pediatric cancer in any way?

What I Walked Away With #MrPeabody

In case you were following my feed on Twitter or Facebook you probably figured out I was in NYC last weekend for something to do with new Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie coming out March 7th.

I was invited to not just screen the movie but to talk to the director and actors about how the movie came about and their opinions on how the audience will view it.

#MrPeabody & Sherman and Bloggers
If you were a kid growing up in the 1960’s you might remember Peabody’s Improbable History. This animation was about a well accomplished dog and his adopted son Sherman. Dreamworks Animation has revised that original story into a modern day adaptation called Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

The background is essentially the same, Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell, Emmy Award® Winner -Modern Family) is a special dog; a genius, Olympian, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, inventor and business tycoon who adopts a boy, Sherman, (Max Charles -The Amazing Spiderman) with the approval of government.

They travel time in the WABAC machine to significant periods in history. These adventures of course are meant to be educational but things go awry and they wreck havoc on these important moments.MPS-four

I took away a few different messages from the movie, I’m guessing that was the point.

It takes more than a title to be a father. While Mr. Peabody has officially adopted Sherman there was something missing in their relationship. It took a series of misadventures for Mr. Peabody to see Sherman as not just his human but his family, his son.

While Mr. Peabody and Sherman have an unconventional family it’s a family nonetheless. Others looked at them and saw differences and didn’t agree with the way they were living.

Glimpses of historical moments ignited a passion for learning in me. I’m hoping that it does the same for children as they watch the movie. As your children ask “Did that really happen”, it should encourage a dialog and possible examination into the true story.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman is more than just a kid’s animation film. It’s a family movie that grasps at different emotions and aspects of life. The WABAC machine might take them back in time but the lessons learned will help them forge a hopeful and evolving relationship for the future.

Starring Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Leslie Mann, Patrick Warburton, Stanley Tucci, Allison Janney, Lake Bell, Zach Callison, Dennis Haysbert
