My family and I had a chance to try the Griddler and let me tell you I am hooked. Since we have had the Griddler we have made pancakes, eggs and roasted red pepper, mozzarella and chicken paninis multiple times. We have also made grilled cheese, chicken, burgers and hot dogs. The Griddler is super easy to use and makes cooking breakfast and dinner simple. All you have to do is select “Grill” or “Griddle” then select the temperature, wait for it to heat up and cook, that is all there is to it. My favorite dish that we have made on the Griddler so far has to be the roasted red pepper, mozzarella and chicken panini.

Here is what you need to make the roasted red pepper, mozzarella and chicken panini:

Roll or panini bread
Piece of chicken breast
1-2 slices of mozzarella cheese
3-4 basil leaves (we got these from our fresh herb garden)
Roasted red peppers (either from the jar or you can roast your own red pepper)

The Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler is so easy to use and can be used to make so many different things it needs to be a part of your kitchen.

Cuisinart is generously giving Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! readers the chance to win the GR-4 Griddler for themselves. Visit Cuisinart and tell me what other Cuisinart kitchen item you would like to own or would like to try.

Platinum KEURIG Brewer Recapitulation

If you read my husband’s site at all you’d know he works a wacky schedule. Some days he’s at work at 4am, sometimes as early as 1:30am. To be able to get up this early he NEEDS his coffee. For a while he was going without until getting to work to have the “stuff” they provide but when that “stuff” got worse he knew he was going to have to do something different. Buying coffee that early in the morning wasn’t always the answer as there are limited resources for coffee that tasted good and running the coffee pot at that time was a NO-NO unless he was going to deal with woken up kids. He found Keurig and knew this would solve his problems. The Keurig is a single-cup brewing system that allows you to enjoy hot drinks like coffee, tea and hot cocoa in less than 2 minutes with no fuss and no mess and better yet no NOISE. We were debating whether to buy one buy in the meantime but Rob diligently entered a blog giveaway and WON from Life in a House of Blue. To say he was psyched was an understatement. I’ll admit I was a bit excited too. Now he wants the mini brewer for his desk so he can have multiple cups of coffee!

The Keurig is a staple in this house. It gets used at least twice a day sometimes more. When we go on vacation in a couple weeks there is no doubt Keurig is coming with us. My parents came over and were so jealous that my mother went out and bought one for my father. He was so excited too. We’ve tested out lots of coffee, tea and hot cocoa flavors and I think we have narrowed down our favorites, Rob likes Caribou Coffee and I like Green Mountain Coffee. Shae even knows what I’m doing once I pull out my mug and starts yelling coffee and doing a slurping sound. One of the very cool things is you aren’t limited to using the K-cups, there is a Reusable K-Cup Filter that allows us to use our own coffee. Now we can grind some Starbucks (at a reasonable time) and brew if we are in the mood or out of the K-Cups (like that would ever happen).

What we like best is how simple and quick the Keurig is to use. In the past we were notorious for wasting pots of coffee because we would brew then get caught up doing other things or leaving the house and never actually get to drinking it. The Keurig allows me to make my serving in seconds where betting our fancy coffee pot takes forever to get coffee measures, water measured, a filter in and the then waiting for it to grind, brew and finish dripping. This is exactly why I never made coffee on the weekdays. Dropping in a k-Cup and hitting the brew button takes seconds. In the time it takes to give Shae her banana, toast waffles for Sabreena and give Shaun a bowl of cereal my coffee is done and waiting for me. I can then sit with the kids and eat breakfast WITH THEM instead of after them.

Here are the actual features for the Keurig Platinum Brewing System ($169.95)

• 5 Cup Sizes: 4 oz, 6 oz, 8 oz,
10 oz, & 12 oz * (good for things like cup of soup or other recipes)
• Removable 60 oz Reservoir(largest of all brewers)
• Fully Programable Features (timer is available but never used since it only takes seconds)
• Blue Backlit Display(our nightlight)
• Quiet Brew™ Technology(it is very quiet)
• Award Winning Design (small footprint, no bigger than our old brewer)
• Removable drip tray for easy cleanup or access for larger travel mugs
• Sleek design(modern black and chrome styling)

Are you convinced yet? Are you headed out right now to get your own Keurig? Don’t leave the comforts of your sofa, buy online right from Keurig, in fact buy everything you need including the coffee tea and hot cocoa, there are 100’s of brands and flavors available.

Keurig is generously giving LookWhatMomFound readers the chance to win a Platinum Brewing System of their own. Visit Keurig and tell me what flavor K-Cup or accessory would be perfect to go along with your brewer.

Baby Signs with Elizabeth program giveaway

Communication is KEY.
Don’t they say that about everything; marriage, career, friends. What about communication with your baby or toddler? What do you do when they can’t speak, write or read? The Baby Signs® Program teaches babies simple, easy to use gestures for communicating with others. By using motions and mimicking concepts or actions babies are now able to “talk” with parents and caregivers and reduce the frustration felt by all in the past. Baby Signs goes beyond “bye-bye” and “all gone”, your baby can ask to read you to read her a book or for a specific snack without the guessing game of “Why is she crying again”. The Baby Signs® Program helps children develop both language and cognitive skills. Studies show that babies who sign actually develop speech sooner and have larger vocabularies when they do start talking.

I used Baby Signs when Shaun was little and again with Shae. Shaun was a late talker but was always able to ask for a specific snack or drink. Shae on the other hand was a early talker but Baby Signs helped us understand her better and also communicate with others. At the age of 22 months she still uses some signs out of habit even though she can say them perfectly. I love that she can say thank you for a cookie while doing the sign for thank you, it looks so sweet.

Elizabeth Sprague is the mother of 3 boys and a baby Sign Language Instructor in Portland Oregon. Elizabeth was born deaf in one ear, and obviously had an early interest in learning Sign Language. Growing up in the middle of her mother’s in-home daycare and having six siblings gave her a love of being surrounded by children. Elizabeth studied ASL and Child Psychology, but studying the Baby Signsº Program specifically has been the most fun and rewarding. Being a mommy to three perfect little boys! She has used Baby Sign Language with all of them and has seen the amazing benefits first hand, both immediate and the ones that come later. Here is her youngest son Joshua at age 14 months working on his signs.

Teaching Baby Signs classes is a great way for Elizabeth to share this great way for parents and caregivers to have a window into a child’s life before they can talk. She teaches because she knows it works to provide all the benefits it claims to. Some parents worry about it not being natural or possibly delaying speech, but Elizabeth has the research (both professional and personal) to ease those fears and even downright prove them wrong! She wants to share this program with as many families as she can because it makes happier babies, which leads to happier parents and caregivers……. and who doesn’t want to be happier?

The Benefits of Baby Signs®

Families who use the Baby Signs® Program know firsthand that there are many benefits to using signs with their babies. Using the Baby Signs® Program …
• Reduces tears, tantrums, & frustration
• Allows babies to share their worlds
• Increases respect for babies
• Strengthens the parent-infant bond
• Boosts self-esteem and self-confidence
• Makes learning to talk easier
• Stimulates intellectual development

Over two decades of Baby Signs® research has shown that these proven benefits affect different areas of a child’s development. Using the Baby Signs® Program stimulates:
• Social-Emotional Development
• Language Development
• Cognitive Development

Elizabeth and I are so confident that Baby Signs is an excellent tool for your family that she wants to give my readers the chance to win The Complete Starter Kit; which contains everything parents and their babies need for a successful start to signing fun OR the Baby Signs Potty Training Kit which contains everything you need to make potty training fun and easy.

Cloth Diapering Basics and Happy Heiny One-Size Giveaway

For my next installment of the Preparing for Baby series I’m going to bring you something that is near and dear to my heart, CLOTH DIAPERING. While I’ve been cding Shae since she was a newborn I’m not an expert in all the types of diapers. My new friend Sherrie with Itty Bitty Baby Bunz has given a short and sweet breakdown of the styles and their benefits.

One of the greatest things about choosing to use a cloth diapering method for your child is all the options that are available to you. You truly get to find a system that works for your family’s needs simply because there are so many styles/kinds from which to choose. Unfortunately, all these choices can be quite daunting for families new to cloth. Here’s a quick rundown of what you will find when you decide to use cloth diapers on your child and a basic guide to help deliver you from the confusion:

4 basic types of cloth diapers to choose from
• All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s
• Pockets
• Fitteds
• Prefolds/Flats

Benefits:
Needs a waterproof wrap/cover-Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Needs a special fastener-Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Needs inserts to work-Pockets
Has elastic legs/waist- Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Easy to clean-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s, Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Fast drying-Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Easy to use-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s &Pockets
Available in colors/prints-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s, Pockets, Fitteds & Prefolds/Flats
Daddy/babysitter approved-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s &Pockets
Trim fit-All-in-One’s/All-in-Two’s & Pockets
Economical-Prefolds/Flats

And the winners are…..

Economic Award — Prefolds/Flats
At $20 a dozen plus a few bucks for covers and closures (pins or Snappis), you can effectively diaper your child from birth to potty learning for under $400 dollars. (Throw-away diapers can easily cost you this much in 6 months – eek!) NOTE: you do not need to purchase a huge set of covers because covers can be wiped clean during wet changes and reused.

Transition Award – All-in-1’s
All-in-One’s are exactly that – everything you need to diaper your child in one piece. They require no inserts, no pins and no covers to work properly. They are an excellent transition diaper from throw away to cloth.

Convenience Award – Pocket Diapers
With a just a little preparation (stuffing the insert into the diaper), pocket diapers are the perfect solution for busy families where dad, in-laws, daycares and/or babysitters take part in diapering baby. These diapers are easy to launder (quick drying because of the removable absorbent insert) and easy to place on your baby. Since they require an absorbent material inside the pocket to function properly, pocket diapers offer caregivers exciting options. Microfiber inserts can be used for a trim diaper or add a hemp or second microfiber insert for extra absorbency overnight or for heavy wetters. Prefolds, flats, or even microfiber towels all work in pocket diapers as inexpensive inserts. Extra bonus – never have to touch the wet/soiled diaper! Just shake the insert loose into your laundry pail or bag. No ICK factor!

If you have multiple children in diapers and don’t want to deal with grabbing the right size every time they need a change, a One-Size diaper might be a good option for your family. Or, if you have only one child but don’t wish to purchase a whole new stash of diapers each time your child grows, a One-Size diaper could be the answer for you. There are many different brands of One-Size diapers available; however, most of them work using a system of snaps or fasteners on the front of the diaper. These front adjusters allow you to select the appropriate rise for your child and in essence, grow with your child. One-Size diapers will accommodate most children through their potty learning years. What a savings! A wonderful option for the cloth diapering world, though, like any system, there are a few drawbacks. If you plan to use the same One-Size diaper for three kids, you may begin to see wear and tear by the second or third child. This breakdown of the fibers does not indicate poor craftsmanship or bad quality materials, but rather the effects of washing a garment multiple times a week, month after month. A second reason you may not wish to choose a One-Size diaper is due to the bulk factor. Most moms don’t mind to see the adorable waddle of a child in cloth, but some parents don’t care for the way clothing fits (or doesn’t fit) overtop of a bulky dipe. Especially when your child is a baby, there is excess cloth in a One-Size diaper – it’s waiting there patiently for when it will be needed in the coming months.

Whatever kind of cloth diapering system you choose, you can rest assured that you are doing a great thing on many fronts.
• you are reducing the amount of waste your family contributes to our landfills
• you are saving tons of money by not purchasing paper and plastic you will just throw away every few hours
• you are, in most cases, supporting small businesses and work-at-home moms
• most importantly, you are laying your baby’s delicate skin next to soft, breathable, chemical-free materials for 24 hours each day

One of our favorite One-Size diapers are Happy Heinys One-Size Pockets. With been using this one for over a month and it fits like no other one-size we’ve tried before. With 4 size settings and generous stretch in the elastic this diaper is sure to fit from infantcy through to potty training. As with other Happy Heiney’s I’ve used the outer color is vibrant, the inner liner is soft and resists staining and the aplix closure tabs stay flush against the diaper to deter little fingers from opening. A recent design change has added leg casings instead of the traditional fleece roll out at the legs. I love the look of the little fleece peek out but think the casings work better at containing messes. Itty Bitty Baby Bunz is currently reducing their price for the diapers without leg casings to snatch them up before they are gone.

To close out this fantastic Cloth Diaper Basics rundown Sherrie with Itty Bitty Baby Bunz is giving LookWhatMomFound readers the chance to win a Happy Heinys One-Size Diaper.

My Plate-Mate Kitchen Gadget

I’ve found a cool kitchen gadget but it’s not for me. My Plate-Mate is a unique spill guard to aid in children’s self-feeding and independence. It’s intended to prevent messy spills on the table and on children making meal-time clean-up a cinch. With a gentle stretch this rigid rim fit right on her favorite character plate. Shae is wonderful at eating yogurt on her own and stabbing chicken chunks with her fork but she still has troubles with things like rice, veggies and beans. She also hates messes so when food ends up on her hands and clothes she has a little fit. My Plate-Mate allowed her to scoop up cheese raviolis and green beans and eat completely on her own. She ate a bit quicker than usual also, I’m guessing because she didn’t struggle the way she normally does at meal time.

My Plate-Mate is made in the USA and free of lead, phthalates, PVC, polycarbonates and BPA. Additional features include compact size for easy transporting and dishwasher safe for simple clean-up. Created by moms, Michele and Paige, My Plate-Mate was designed with their children in mind. After many years in the workforce and mommyhood they found themselves wanting more. My Plate-Mate was the result of the desire to make their lives and the lives of parents around the world easier. Within 6 months of introduction My Plate-Mate was being sold in nearly 100 retailers across the country and can now be found in Australia, UK and Canada. My Plate-Mate has filled an unmet market and continues to grow and be recognized as a unique and successful design.

Do you want to win your own My Plate-Mate? LookWhatMomFound readers can enter to win a white one for their own kiddos.

Mandatory Entry: Visit My Plate-Mate and come back and let me know who would benefit from My Plate-Mate.
