Chomper Chums App help your kids get their teeth clean

Every day I have the same conversation with my kids, “Did you brush your teeth?”. The slightest bit of hesitation reveals that they didn’t but are trying to come up with an excuse or lie there way out of it.

I then open mouths, scrape gunk and sniff breathes. Gross. They’re off brushing again.

Since they are such tech addicts I’m thinking utilizing the Chomper Chums app might be a bit of an incentive.

The point of Chomper Chums is to motivate kids to brush and take care of their teeth in order to earn coins to feed their character within the app. The contained timer lets kids know the right amount of brush time plus flossing and rinse time. Instructions for proper brushing is also included as part of the lesson.

As you kids earn points and feed their animals they are given food choices. They are encouraged to make healthy choices otherwise there could be unpleasant results.

Explore Women’s Sex App

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in school and had to go through sex education. Honestly I don’t think we even had sex education; we had “health class” in which we briefly skimmed the topic of sex and focused more on STD’s and reproduction.

Most teenagers in the 90’s (like us) fumbled through their first sexual experiences. The information we craved about what was supposed to happen, how things were supposed to feel and where things were supposed to go was usually passed around through playground friends and older siblings.

These days information is everywhere. Sometimes it’s the wrong information but sometimes it can be put together in educational and informative ways. Sexual education for women is available right on your iPod with Explore Women’s Sex for the iPod/iPhone/iPad.

This particular app is extremely graphic in nature and not meant for little eyes. The app itself is rated for ages 17 and over due to the nudity and sexual nature but is categorized as educational.

Diagrams and a complete encyclopedia of all the working parts is included in this app. At almost 40 years old I actually learned a few things; names for parts and things that are there that I never knew.

Storybook Maker App

In this world of technology there are literally millions of apps in the different markets all trying to grab our attention and get themselves seen. I have three kids so finding just the right app especially when it isn’t free is very important to me because I am not a fan of wasting money on an app that will never get touched. Recently I was told about an awesome app called Storybook Maker. At first I was a little hesitant like I am with every new app but after playing with it for a few hours with Shae this app is a huge hit and we love it.

Storybook Maker by Merge Mobile is an app that will allow you and your kids to unleash your creativity and make things like short stories, picture books, photo collages, scrap books and vacation albums. Shae and I spent a few hours last night making her master piece. I am not sure if I would call it a short story but it’s very family oriented and includes pictures of our family. The app is very and I mean very easy to use and self explanatory. I added the different pictures that Shae wanted but she typed what she wanted to say about each picture. I did need to help her with spelling but she is only 5 so that is to be expected but other than that she did most of the work with very little help from me.

Shae and I used the photo option (photos I already had on my iPad) in Storybook Maker but each page can be fully customized to include: custom recorded audio, backgrounds and borders, paintings from our intuitive paint tools, text including many fonts and type options, sticker objects from a massive built in library (NO IN APP PURCHASES NECESSARY!) and photos from your photo album. What I learned last night while playing with this app is that the possibilities are endless because there are so many different features and options that you can create just about anything you want.

Once you are done creating your masterpiece you have three different ways to share it with the world: publish your book as a PDF and email it to everyone you know, publish your book as a Multi-Media book and share it with the world and publish your book to their public library to share with all users of Storybook maker around the world.

I think these would make for really special gifts for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and end of year of a teacher’s gift. Send this post along to your room mom and get started on pictures of the class and gathering quotes from all the kids.

Keep Youth Sports Organized With The HomeTeam App

When spring time comes does your calendar get out of hand with all sorts of sport practices and games for the kids? Wouldn’t you love an app that you could use that would be right at your finger tips 24/7 to manage all of those details for you?

HomeTeam is just the app that every parent, player, coach and manager has been looking for. HomeTeam allows you as a parent to view an all in one schedule of upcoming games, view contact information for other team parents to arrange carpooling and even game day snacks. It also allows you to add your kid’s games to your device calendar as well as your work calendar automatically.

Coaches can now forget about pencil and paper because HomeTeam will maintain rosters for all of their teams including players and parent contact info, send emails as well as text messages to players and parents when necessary and will automatically compose, address and send game day info via email.

Some of you might know that Shaun played football last season and will again this season which starts in August. Last year the football team was very unorganized when it came to everyone having everyone’s contact information but that won’t be a problem for me this season.

Cover Creator by Discovery Girls App & Magazine Giveaway

Parker and Peyton love playing on our iPad and they love to see what new apps are available for kids. We found one that is perfect for girls and hours of fun. It’s the Cover Creator from Discovery Girls and they have been playing with it nonstop.

We easily downloaded Cover Creator from itunes to our iPad. This app allows the girls to create their own magazine cover and it’s so easy to use and I love that fact that it entertains both of my girls. Sometimes I find apps that are fun for my 8 year old but the 10 year old finds them too childish and then the ones the 10 yr old can play are too old and hard for my 8 yr old. This is not the case for the Cover Creator.
The girls have been running all over the place taking pictures and designing the perfect magazine covers.

This app allows the girls to take a picture or use one already on the iPad, then it lets you resize or rotate, next you choose a theme of the cover you want such as animals, friends or sports crazy, it also allows you to create your own. Once you choose a theme you can reposition or add your own headlines and bylines that would be on a magazine cover. Once they get it just the way they like they can save, share, reset or delete it.

Digital Artistry with Nomad Brushes

I am very far from being any kind of artist. I’m more of what one would call a crafter. Sabreena on the other hand is the artist and every year we head to the supply stores to stock up on basics and other “ingredients” for projects. Artistry isn’t a very mobile hobby though. What happens when inspiration strikes in the car or visiting the grandparents?

With all the mobile devices at our fingertips Sabreena can virtual draw anytime she wants. The Nomad brushes we recently received went right to Sabreena and she’s been “painting” ever since.

Nomad Brushes were invented by artist Don Lee. After receiving an iPad as a gift and delving right into his digital scrapbook he knew something was needed. Potatoes with Sausage and Ricotta #Recipe with Fabio

There’s a reason he won Fan Favorite on Season 5 of Top Chef. Chef Fabio Viviani has a warm and welcoming presence that shines through his adorable smile and exuberant personality. Of course his cooking talent is what got him through to the final four on Bravo TV’s competition series.
Years of cooking experience and testing and tasting products makes him a bit of an authority on ingredients and tools to use in the kitchen. Bertolli Olive Oil is one brand that he endorses. I’m happy to say I’m a Bertolli user too even though I’m far from the talented chef that he is. I was given the opportunity to review Fabio’s iPad app Let’s Cook. This app offers over 100 handpicked recipes from Fabio himself, step by step instructions in 16 cooking demos, video tips and tricks to make the everyday cook, like me, a bit more confident and successful in the kitchen and much more.

I used the app, the provided Bertollii Extra Virgin Olive Oil and recipes cards to create a new but really delicious meal for my family last week. While I didn’t follow the recipe 100% I used it as a guide, incorporating ingredients we had on hand, methods I preferred and adjustments to measurements.

Roasted Baby Potatoes with Sausage and Ricotta

16 baby Yukon potatoes (recipe called for reds)
½ cup of Bertolli Classico Olive Oil (recipe called for 1 cup)
2 TBLS fresh chopped rosemary (recipe called for 1 cup)
2TBLS fresh chopped thyme (recipe called for 1 cup sage)
8 oz ground cooked sausage
8 oz ricotta cheese
4 oz Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven 450 degrees
Boil potatoes till just tender, remove from water let slightly cool. Halve then scoop out some potato insides to create cup. In a bowl combine sausage, ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese and salt and pepper if needed. In another bowl add oil and herbs and gently coat potato cups then place on baking sheet.

Fill each potato with sausage and cheese mixture and bake for 8-12 minutes till bubbly and brown.
We enjoyed with fresh steamed broccoli and spinach salad. The meal was really really tasty, everyone ate without a peep and all but Shae had seconds. Next time I will make more so there are leftovers for lunch the next day.

According to the recipe card this meal makes 8 servings, Prep Time is 15 minutes and Cook Time is 15 minutes. Not in my world. This got made in over 1 ½ hours. Potatoes were boiled then set aside. Sausage was cooked then aside. Herbs were picked and chopped then set aside. This is the way I usually have to cook especially with kids and dog running around and others things going on. This WILL be made again and adjusted to try something new. Maybe bigger potatoes, maybe some cooked spinach, maybe cannellini beans. I see lots of possibilities and I think that’s the way people are supposed to cook. There was a big difference in the Bertolli provided recipe cards and the recipe listed on the app.

Let’s Cook is a really entertaining and informative app especially if you learn better by watching than by reading. Fabio Viviani is fun to watch and yeah not to bad to look at either. Oh and it’s only $.99, can’t beat that! I wish he had a video for pizza dough. Better yet I’d love a visit from him to teach me how to properly make homemade dough, sauté scallops and cook fish.
