Upgrade Your Computer Memory With Crucial

As a blogger and gamer there is nothing more important to me than my laptop and desktop computer. The one thing that I recently realized was that they both were lacking sufficient memory and decided it was time to do an upgrade.

Thankfully I received an email from Crucial asking if I wanted to do a memory review. After receiving that email it got me thinking about all of the computers in the house and how all of them needed an upgrade in the memory department. About three months ago I bought a new laptop which came with 4GB of RAM which you would think would be enough but I was starting to notice a lag in performance. This is the computer that I decided to upgrade first to see how much faster it operated with the memory upgrade and right off the bat I could see a noticeable increase in performance.

Most people including myself take the RAM in their computer for granted and assume what comes in their machine initially is sufficient but that is not always the case. Thankfully Crucial makes buying computer memory super easy and anyone can do it even if you know nothing at all about computers. At Crucial.com they have a memory advisor where you select your computer, product line and model and it will show you memory upgrade recommendations. If you want to take it one step further and really simplify the process all you need to do it download the system scanner where it will tell you how many memory slots your computer has, how much memory you currently have installed, total memory that your computer can be upgraded to and it will make suggestions on what memory you should buy.

It really is that easy to buy memory and Crucial even has videos showing how you do a memory upgrade but all computers are different so you may need to go to your computer manufactures website for further instructions. I upgraded five computers total and it took me less than 30 minutes to upgrade them all and I am really glad that I did. Melinda and the kids tell me that they can tell a difference when they run certain programs and games that used to lag before the memory upgrade.

Have you ever upgraded your computer memory? Do you think it helped?

Shae and Technology

Yes that is Shae below playing on a laptop at the age of four.

I know this isn’t anything special or new but when I watch her play on the computer, iPad or our phones I am still in amazement a little bit.  She is four and can play these devices like a pro.  I watched her play the computer last night and watched how she was able to use the touch pad on the laptop to control her game and I was amazed at how well she did.  I remember when Sabreena was four she used to play the computer a little but she was more into coloring, drawing and playing with dolls and stuff like that.

I guess I am just getting old but kids have come a long way and technology pushes children to learn how to use these devices at such an early age.  Not saying it is a good or bad thing. I am just saying this seems to be the way of the world right now.

Do you have kids who have seemed to master electronics already at a young age?

Keep Your Computer Safe With McAfee

Protecting your computer is essential from cyber attacks and surfing the internet unprotected is a no no so if you are looking for full computer protection give McAfee Total Protection a try. Recently we had the opportunity to review McAfee Total Protection and so far I am very happy with this product.

Many people spend a lot of time searching for the best tech deals when they buy a computer, but often give security little thought.

Over the years I have tried just about every Anti-Virus software that has been on the market and I am being honest when I say that McAfee is the most versatile by far.

McAfee Total Protection provides a TON of features and benefits such as:

  • Wireless network protect – McAfee Home Network Defense allows you to share your wireless network with others but allows you to block them from seeing passwords and personal files on your PC.
  • Parental Controls – Allows you to limit online time as well as lets you use age based rules and adjustable categories so that you can block inappropriate sites.
  • Protects against Viruses and Malware – provides complete Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, and Anti-Malware protection along with real time safeguards as well as a two way firewall to provide an extra layer of security.

A few new features that I think are really cool are:

  • USB and Removable Drive Scan – Scans these devices for viruses and stops them before they get transferred to your computer.
  • Pre-Install Scan – This may be one of the features I love best. A lot of people get an Anti-Virus program once their computer already has a virus so this feature works to remove infections while the software is being installed.

There are so many features that if I described them all here it would be a three hour blog post. To read about all of the features as well as system requirements click HERE!!!!!

We have been using McAfee Total Protection for about a month or so on all four of our laptops and have had zero viruses. Even Melinda who with our old Anti-Virus program seemed to get a new virus every month has been 100% virus free and the kid’s laptop has been clean as well.

If you are in need of an Anit-Virus program be sure to check out McAfee Total Protection.

Desks Are Stressing Me Out

When we moved last July we had to sell our corner computer desk because we felt that our new place just didn’t have enough space but almost a year later I think we were wrong. On a daily basis Melinda mentions the little nook in our living room and how it would look nice with some sort of desk in it and always tells me that we need to go look at corner computer desks or a nice corner writing desk.

I agree with her to a point because I would like to have some kind of desk to sit at when I work from home or when I am doing blog work but I am afraid it might clutter our living room. This may be the first time in our 10 year marriage that we have had a nice uncluttered living room with nice furniture and I am afraid to add anything new to the mix.

I know what people are thinking, if we get a small nice desk there should be no reason for our living room to become cluttered and in the back of my head I agree but I am just afraid to bring more furniture into the house.

In the end I am sure I will cave and we will be getting a desk and I am sure I will be the one to use it most even though right now I am the one who is hesitant on making the purchase. Now the next step is finding a desk that will fit and look nice so I don’t freak out over the clutter?

Have any desk suggestions? If so I am wide open to them!

The internet is a scary place especially if you have kids that are on the computer so it is important to have good internet security.  Shaun and Shae LOVE to play on the computer so thankfully we got an opportunity to review F-Secure Internet Security 2011.

F-Secure Internet Security 2011 is a fast and easy-to-use software that keeps viruses, worms, spyware, and harmful Internet sites away from your computer. You can explore the wonders of the web without a worry. Keep viruses, identity thieves and hackers away and enjoy the surf.

Some of the key features that F-Secure Internet Security 2011 offers that I thought were pretty cool was the new Browsing Protection feature that tells you which websites are safe to enter and which you should avoid. Harmful sites are blocked automatically to ensure safe surfing while renewed Parental Control keeps children safe from inappropriate web content you which websites are safe to enter and which you should avoid.

I found F-Secure Internet Security 2011 pretty easy to install and to set up.  There is an parental control option where you are able to set up parameters for young kids as well as teens in regards to what sites are appropriate but after spending about 30 minutes playing with it with no success I disabled the feature.  I haven’t gone back since the initial setup to look at the option but plan on it since we just got Sabreena her own laptop for Christmas.

For those of you who are techy like meself below are some system requirements needed in order to run F-Secure Internet Security 2011 effectively:
